Rent a Sleeper Van in the USA ?Hello !
I traveled around Australia and rented a Sleeper Van there. Now, I am going to travel around in the USA but can't find any website to rent a sleeper van, just mobile homes, campers, which I find way to big and expensive. Does anybody know where I could rent a sleeper van ( like the old Volkswagen ones, or even an old model Ford ) or is this not possible in the USA ? Thank you very much for your time to answer !!!

2In California (LA), there's camperusa.com. Other than that- nothing else. To be honest, I've seen very few camper vans around, they're just not as popular here- you may want to look into renting a tent trailer or small motorhome instead. It's not really much more expensive. Or you could rent a car and tent camp instead.

5Yes Bob, but googling in a foreign language (sleeper van) will not yield the same results.
OP, when a tourist visits another culture it is useful to learn the local terminology, language, and customs.
We don't speak Oz English here.
Thankfully there are very very few old VW buses/campers/whatever on the road.
They were the most underpowered deathtraps out there.
A good wind can blow them off course. If every other vehicle was a VW bus, fine.

6The right terms are campervan (one word) or camper van (two words). They are often called "class B motor home" but many Class B motor homes are larger than a Vanagon. Searching via Google gets difficult, however, because you get many European or Australian companies, and a lot about the band Camper Van Beethoven. Here are some I found:
VW Westfalia Camper Rental in California San Francisco
Camper van rentals in Salt Lake City
Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Rentals in Hawaii
East coast VW Campervan rental New Jersey
Northwest campers Bellingham, Washington
Vintage Surfari Wagons old VWs and campervans in Southern California

10As a summary and addendum to the FAQ posts:
1) renting a campervan will not save you any money compared to renting a car and staying in motels, you can pretty much forget about that. 2) renting a campervan will be more comfortable but MUCH more expensive than renting a car and tent-camping, even allowing for buying some camping gear and the occasional hotel room. 3) if money is not much of a concern and you really want to be to camp with relative ease and comfort pretty much anywhere you want, then a campervan might be a really good choice for you. 4) if point #3 does not describe you, consider renting a small car and either tent camping or motels/hotels/hostels.
