Gannan prefecture is resumed foreigner tourists !!!

Hi all,
It's been long time since I post here last time, I was taking some tours. anyway. The Labrang Monastery and Taktsang lhamo monastery (cn:Langmusi)in Gannan prefecture in Gansu province has been resumed foreign tourists. However, I was told only receiving small groups right now. Good luck for any one who is planning to visit these area.

I just visited Labrang Monestary the past 2 days and took a bus no problems. 2 from Isreal told me they had to have 2 copies of their passport, though I (US) did not. We were the only freigners in town and had a great time.

I just called Lanzhou's south bus station (0931-2914066). They seemed willing to sell foreigners tickets to Xiahe, as long as you take along photocopies of passport and visa.

Bus times:
07.30
08.30
09.30
14.30

Tickets: 49.5 yuan

Hi... that is great news! Any recommendations on how best to travel to Xiahe from Dunhuang? I plan to make that trip in around two days, Oct 23rd.

Bus to Lanzhou, then train to Dunhuang.

There are two trains a day from Lanzhou to Dunhuang:

N851 17:58-07:56
K591 19:14-09:31

Hard sleeper approx 254 yuan.

I took a more scenic but longer route from Xiahe to Dunhuang. Bus to Xining, bus to Zhanghe (very large reclining Buddha), then bus to Jiayuguan.

Jiayuguan has an excellent fort that I enjoyed. Then train from there is 4 hrs to Dunhuang. Arrived in morning, so just went to Magao Caves for the day before taking a 8:16 PM sleeper (257 RMB) to Urumqi.

jezasia: Big apologies! Misread your posts.

Dunhuang to Lanzhou by train (approx 254 yuan):

K592:09:34 - 00:01
N858: 19:25 - 09:14

Then then bus to Xiahe.
