Buses from Taba to Cairo

Hi,
Hope you have the answer for this one. We want to travel from Taba to Cairo by bus as the airport doesn't seem to be up..or at least I can't seem to find flights. Anyway cheap is good ,so we need help in determining if there are buses from Taba to Cairo and if there are, what times are they scheduled to depart? Do we have to go nuweiba to catch this bus? And 1 more ? ...how long would the travel time be? Thanks for your wisdom.

There's buses from Taba to Cairo... not sure of the times though. I think about 3 or 4 buses a day. I did this bus journey about 3 months ago. I think the bus I caught was about 10.30am from Taba arriving in Cairo early evening, but my memory isn't what it used to be! Sorry for not remembering the times. You will need to pay a departure tax if crossing from Israel (about 72 Israeli shekels - about 10 dollars) and an Egyptian Port Tax payable once you boarded the bus of about 10 dollars again.

Taba bus station is a very short walk from the border crossing..... don't be fooled by the taxis at the border who will offer to drive you from the border to the bus station.. it really is only about 5 minutes walk... past the Hilton (tall building) and the Movenpick hotel.

Duh just remembered and this is very important...... YOU CANT GET A FULL EGYPTIAN VISA AT THE TABA BORDER CROSSING (only the free Sinai visa which restricts you to just the touristy areas of the Sinai).

Having said that, theres an Egyptian consulate in Eilat (way out in the residential suburbs) and another one in Aquaba where full visas are available.. but i think you need leave the passports with them overnight and collect next day.

I have just done the trip. As I recall the buses leave at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 4.30pm. 10.30 bus arrives just before 5pm, all going to plan.

If you are crossing the border at Taba don't forget what Frog says above re visa, although I talked to a guy who managed to get a visa at a vastly inflated price!! We crossed from Aqaba right on 8am (when the border opened) and made it to the bus stop (a good 400m walk from the Taba border, on the left) a good 45minutes before the bus arrived.

Enjoy!!

If you travel from Taba into Israel, and plan to go back the same way...then think of buying you re-entry visa at the border. There is even signs saying you should do this! It saves you a trip to the consulate in Taba.
My parents recently visited us here. They took a taxi straight from the airport all the way to Taba. After a week in Israel they came back by bus. All went well and they ae end60/begin70 yrs old!

ChrisB12 is right about the bus times. The cost can vary between EP60 and EP70. The tax to leave Taba is EP46 which will be payable when the bus leaves Taba border. Isreali departure tax at Taba is 64 Shekels.

If you arrive at the bus stop (don't believe anything the taxi people say to you regarding the bus times) half an hour before the bus time and there is a taxi around with some people already in it you may be able to negotiate the same fare as the bus including dropping off in Cairo where you want. The bus usually takes 6-7 hours all going well, a taxi will do the same trip in 3-4 hours.
