I want to go to Kenya in Oct, but Is it too dodgy right now? Id be doing an organised tour so I'd be on the tourist trail.
Does anyone has any tour groups they'd recommend also please?
For anyone travelling overland through Kenya to Ethiopia it's worth noting that there has been some very serious tribal fighting in and around the Moyale area and even in the town itself. A number of people have been killed and the Red Cross say that around 20,000 people have fled the area (and are continuing to do so) and crossed into Kenya. If you're heading to Moyale and Ethiopia in the next few days check the situation very carefully before setting off and be prepared to back track and either wait it out or fly to Addis.
does anybody know a good bus connection Kenya - Arusha? I have called Scandinavian but they told they stopped running two years ago.
Or is it really an advantage to take the (more expensive) express shuttles?
We want to go in the early morning.
Any advice is welcome!
currently I got 2 offers for camping safaris:
Best Camping tours: 2,5 days Amboseli + 7 days Samburu/Nakuru/Masai: $1600 per person (we are 2)
Wildebeest travels: 3 days Amboseli, 3 days Samburu, 4 days Masai : $2110 per person (we are 2)
looking for a 6 days safari from Aug4-10 for Masai Mara, Nakuru, Amboseli--classic..
2 person now. and our time is not that flexible. checking online all day, find Acacia Africa, with 1245USD/person, which i thought is a good price, but find out that there is an extra 750USD for "local payment"... which makes it pretty expensive.. and it's camping safari only.
I read through the forum, seems 200USD/day is kind of reasonable price.
Some recommend agents?already sent bunch emails..waiting for reply..(gametrackers, sana highlands Acacia Afria)
If someone want to join, your a more than welcome!! and let's get a better bargain!
we, a young, belgium couple, will come to Kenya on 9 september!! :) I m so locking forward to it!
We thought of starting a camping safari that day -
going 4 days to Masai Mara -
stay 2 days at Lake Nakura / Naivasha and cycle or walk through Hells Gate.
And then drive to Arusha and stop in Amboseli 1 day.
We will bring a tent and we want just a budget camping safrai, so we are thinking to go with
either Best camping kenya or the gametrackers for the Masai Mara and maybe the drive to Lake Nakura.
Is somebody interesting in joining us so we get a better rate :)?
From there, i think it should be possible to go back to Nairobi with busses and matutus?
How often do they drive for example from Naivasha to Nairobi?
Also - to Amboseli? Is it a doable connection or should we step on a shuttle directly to Arusha and skip Amboseli?

I've read that park entry into Masai Mara is $80 day... Is this per person or per group?
On the official link (http://www.kws.org/export/sites/kws/tourism/downloads/Conservation_Fees_Jan-_Dec_2012.pdf)it says that STUDENTS PAY HALF PRICE... Can anyone vouch for this?
My boyfriend and I are thinking of heading over to Kenya from Seychelles mid-August (18th)-mid Sept (19th), but I'm trying to sort out potential 'budget' places to stay... We just spent time in India so our idea of 'budget travel' is living on $15 USD per day...
All the camps and lodges I see online seem too fancy + EXPENSIVE. Ideally, we are looking for cheap tent camping with little to no facilities (don't need hot water or western toilets or beds, etc)... More like 'real' camping (although I obviously don't want to be eaten by lions in the middle of the night, ideally lol). Anyone have any ideas??
We usually don't plan things like this in advance (we like to just figure it all out once we get there), but I don't know much about staying on / visiting a reserve (or the potential 'necessary planning' that goes into it)... This forum's opinions on this topic seem very mixed so a... more »
would anybody have good advice about how to get fast and cheap from Nairobi to Kampala in Uganda by public transport?
Thanks already in advance
hello. im often in nairobi, drinking coffee, hunting down people to hang out with...yeah i could lurk in backpacker places but friends who leave arent all that ideal.
im 23, from the uk, and i work in remote communities around kenya during the week so im a poor lonesome creature on the whole.
genuinely questing for mates, not sexytime. x
Is anybody driving from Nairobi to Kampala on or around 1st October, and has a spare seat available. I will obviously contribute towards the fuel costs. Maybe you are going part of the way in that direction.
I know the plane and bus are other options, but I have done that before, and thought I would try this first.
We are relocating to Kenya, Nanyuki and are looking for a place to rent with 3/4 bedrooms. Any ideas very welcome?
A friend of mine and myself are visiting Africa in the framework of our studies this summer (Ethiopia and Burundi), and we plan to meet each other in Nairobi on the 8th of October. We will be staying until the 16th of October, and we would like to visit some beautiful places in this country (Masai Mara, Nakuru, Amboseli, ...?). However, we find it hard to make arrangements for our trip, because we are very unexperienced in doing this and because we don't know the country.
Because we are students, combined with the fact that due to our stays in Burundi and Ethiopia we aren't able to earn some money in August, we have a limited budget.
Can anyone help us by sharing experiences or giving some other kind of advice?
Many thanks in advance,
I am planning a trip to Kenya/ Tansania and will be doing 2 week safari trip covering naivasha, nakuru, narok, masai mara, serengeti etc.....
I really want to go to Amboseli as well which is not included in this tour. Do you think it's worth going to Amboseli even after Masai mara and Serengeti?
If so, would day trip be enough or the 3 day trips?
Hope to hear some suggestions!!!
I will be arriving at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi on the 6th of August, at 15.15 in the afternoon and want to travel to Arusha. I know I will miss the daily shuttles and I am wondering if anyone else is traveling that day to Arusha that can give me a ride.
Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a frequent matatu traveling from Jomo Kenyatta to Namanga (so I can get a dalla-dalla from Namanga to Arusha) ?
