Shipping from Egypt - Souvenirs

I would like to ship a big box of souvenirs from Cairo to the United States. The major shipping companies, like DHL and Fedex are outrageously overpriced. I want to use the government post office. I was wondering if anyone has any experience as to their reliability and the time it takes. Also, I really need to find a box to ship this stuff in. Any suggestions on how I can obtain a box since I was told they don't sell them at the post office here? Taking them on the plane is not an option as I'll be traveling through Asia for the next few months after I leave Egypt and can't carry them with me.

(About rental pocket wifi, I found "tepwireless" only but they don't have a pocket wifi for Egypt trip.)

2-day Luxor Tour from Cairo

I will spend 5 days in Cairo in mid-December. Somebody knows a reliable and trustworthy travel agency in the city center? I'm interested in a 2-day tour of Luxor including Karnak, Luxor Temple, the West Bank, Abydos and Dendera. I'm traveling alone, but I'm willing to join a group. Also willing to buy a return flight Cairo-Luxor (to capitalize time). But a night train will also be acceptable. Thanks!

Safety of travel from Egypt to Israel (From Cairo/Suez to Taba border)

Hello everyone,

we're two girls planning to travel from Egypt to Israel in the first week of December. I'm aware that the security situation in Sinai and Israel are changing quickly, but if anyone has any recent experiences or impressions of how safe it actually is to travel from Cairo to Israel by bus, crossing by the Taba border, I would be extremely grateful for any input you might have!

Are there any greater dangers traveling on the road from Suez to Taba? Or any other considerations we should keep in mind?

Moving to Cairo - Thoughts, Advice, Suggestions?

Hello all,

I'm an American, and I'm going to be moving to Cairo in the middle of February. I'm used to traveling, and have lived in Cuzco, Peru, for the last year and a half. I've been scanning forums and various websites to gather as much basic information as I can. Much of the info on prices, safety, etc... is a bit outdated, and I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some updated cost of living prices, as well as a list of the safer areas of the city?

Apartment rental costs and utilities are what I'm most concerned with, along with food, etc... I live pretty simply, so either a room or a one bedroom apartment is what I've got in mind.

Giza/Pyramids hotel

It will be a special occation when we are in Cairo for our last 2 nights in Egypt. Am thinking I would like to stay in a hotel with a view of the pyramids just becuase we are somewhere we can do that!! Would be great if we could walk to the pyramids also. Do any of you have any recommendations for a hotel that meets this?? I am going to leave budget out as I want to see what people come up with. Although I will say that I do not think I can do the US$500 for the Oberoi. Thanks in advance

Hello,
I am planning a five days trip to Egypt.

What are the fastest and most comfortable means to travel from Cairo to Alexandria?

If I plane to visit Alexandria and get to Cairo on the same day, is it reasonable to hire a taxi? Can anybody tell me the proximate price?

Holas, I need a holiday and have decided to try scuba diving in Dahab for about 10 days. Prices for flights seem to drop by half by end of november, thinking about staying in Alaska hostel. Looking for someone who knows the ropes so we can arrive there without much bother, score and go snorkelling or scuba diving. I am not a diver, based in the UK, Male, 35.

The Egypt - Jordan - Israel Confusion. Please Help

Hi all,

I know there is much info in this forum regarding this, but I am still somewhat unclear as to what to do. Could someone please help me understand a little better :)

This is what I want to do:

1. Travel from Sharm El-Sheikh to Wadi Musa (to do Petra)

So can I just bus it from Sharm El-Sheikh to the Israeli Border? Then to Aqaba Jordan? Then taxi (or whatever) to Wadi Musa?

2. Travel from Wadi Musa to Jerusalem.

I had planned to travel from Wadi Musa back to Aqaba, cross to Eilat, then Bus up to Jerusalem. Is it easier to simply proceed north through Jordan and enter Israel (then onto Jerusalem) from there?

Tourists allowed Aswan-Abu Simbel bus?

I made a reservation inquiry with an Aswan hotel and they responded with much information including the bus schedule between Aswan and Abu Simbel. Are tourists allowed on these buses?

What's the accommodation scene in Abu Simbel? Still just 2 - the luxury hotel and super budget?
