I'm a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda and I'm looking for advice on a trip I'm planning down to Njombe, Tanzania for a training Here is my preliminary itinerary:
Day 1: Ntungamo or Kabale > Kigali
Day 2: Kigali > East to Tanzania, through the Rusumo border crossing > Tz Rt B3 to Kahama / Nzega
I also need advice on a cheap but decent place to stay in Kahama or Nzega
Day 3: Kahama / Nzega > Dodoma
Day 4: Dodoma > Morogoro > Njombe (far to the SW) - this may be too much for one day...
Any details/recommendation on public transport (preferably bus) is much appreciated!
Thought it might be useful to detail how we did gorilla trekking in Rwanda independently (and cheaper than tours). Before arriving we had sought a few quotes from recommended tour operators which were good but obviously included a premium for organising the trip. If you have little time, it's probably easier to do it with a tour, but if you have 5-7 days for Rwanda, you can do it on your own. We did this last week, as follows:
- Gorilla permit: US$500 per person, obtained from the Rwandan Development Board (RDB) - after emailing them beforehand and finding out when they were available for the day/s we wanted, we paid by Visa card in person at the RDB office in Kigali. We would have paid ahead of time by bank transfer but there were internet issues. We were also flexible with the timing of when we did the gorilla trek so could have changed days if all the permits for the original da...
We are traveling to Tunisia in May/June for 2 weeks. We are thinking of stopping somewhere on the east coast for a few days before we head south to Tozeur - perhaps Mahdia, Monastir or somewhere else? Interested in somewhere with an interesting town as well as a beach, but not too resorty.
Good morning everyone!
Need your help and I know where to find it;)
My flight arrives Johannesburg 11am. All flights to Livingstone or Victoria Falls leave between 10-11:20am. What would my options be, without having to wait 24hrs in Johanesbourg? A bus maybe?
I was planning to fly Livingstone to Windhoek, and after visiting Namibia, returning to Johanesbourg.
Would the itinerary work better in reverse?
I welcome any suggestions, ideas and thank all of you for help. Thanks so much!!!
I am looking for a beautiful and quiet beach in Seychelles with possibility of accommodation (preferably not resort type) within walking distance from the beach. Any ideas?
Is it easy to get get on long distance buses in Morocco? I'll arrive in the airport in Agadir at noon time and thought of moving on straight away - either up the coast or to Marrakech.
Could you please let me know if I can get on a bus straight from the airport or do I need to go the center of Agadir?
Hi. My fiance and I are looking to go to Africa for our Honeymoon. We are most interested in seeing the animals, but would also like to see a little culture (maybe some tribes?) We are on a very tight budget (ideally $5000 including airfare). We are open to all different areas of Africa but from what I am reading it wound like we should do either East or South. Can anyone recommend some good, trustworthy overland companies to book through? I see so many of them but keep reading mied reviews. Also do you have certain "must see" things you recommend? This will likely be our only trip there so we want to do it right. We are not party people, both in our late 20's, and open to anything. Thanks for any help!!!
An announcement was just received that the Rwanda Development Board will, effective 01st of June 2012, raise gorilla permit fees for new permits, though not permits already pre-booked until the time of the announcement, from the present US Dollars 500 per person to US Dollars 750 per person.
The additional income will be used to further strengthen protective measures for the prized animals, fund conservation efforts, research and community outreach programmes, all of which depend on income generated by tourists coming to see the gorillas.
I'm arriving in Lagos next week but wanted to get out of town ASAP... I'm wanting to visit the Osogbo Sacred Grove at least. Which motor park should I head to, how far (time/traffic-wise) is it from the airport?
edit: Also have shared taxi fares gone up yet due to the fuel price hikes?

My husband and I will be visiting Africa this June and we are torn between spending a week in Kenya or spending a week in South Africa. I have seen a few other threads related to this topic, but none that address our month of visit, as I know the seasons vary.
Our options are:
A) 6-day safari to Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha/Hell's Gate and Amboseli -- followed by a day of visiting the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (as we have adopted one of the orphaned elephants and would love to visit the center)
B) 4-5 days in Cape Town (shark cage diving, hiking/abseiling Table Mountain and vineyard tour), 2 days in Tembe National Park, a day exploring Drakensberg Mountains/Lesotho
In addition, we will definitely be spending about three days in Kruger and one day at Blyde River Canyon (as we will be visiting friends who live there).
The cost is relatively the same (a little more fo... more »

We will be trekking in the Simien mountains in early March. We will tour Axum after that. We will have time to visit either Tigray or Lalibela for 2 days. We will have a driver in Axum, who could accompany us to Tigray. We would also have a driver in Lalibela if we choose to go there. We would appreciate advice on which we should choose and why? Thanks for your advice.
