Uganda travel mate for late may early june

Hi. I'm heading to Uganda for about three weeks on Sunday (may 26th). I have no plans as yet. Does anyone want to join me to travel to a few national parks like queen, murchison kipedo maybe etc etc. just to cut costs. Several tour companies have quoted me 5000usd for a budget tour for 18 days so would prefer to do it independently.

I'm pretty free, and adventurous.

Want to go on a gorilla trek in Uganda September 2013?

Hi! M husband and I are looking to plan a gorilla trek in early September (possibly late August for the right plans!) before we leave for home from Kampala 9/17.

We are interested in a 3-10 day itinerary of Uganda that includes seeing the gorillas, possibly chimps. We have contacted several tour groups, but they are all insistent it's a private tour at this point! If we find more people to sign up with us, it will greatly cut down on costs!!

If you are planning to be there those dates and want to have some fun on a budget, let us know! Thanks so much!!!

Going by bus from Nairobi to Kampala

I plan on traveling from Nairobi to Kampala by bus. I don’t want to take a plane – I love the countryside. I would like to make it a 2 day trip, with an overnight preferably half way, so probably overnight in Kenya fairly near the border. And hopefully book a budget hotel.

The 2 Uganda entry points seem to be through Malaba or Busia. Does it matter which entry point I use? And if it does matter, which bus do I take from Nairobi that will use that entry point? And then, based on the route the bus takes, what is the best town for a layover? The map suggests Kisumu if the Busia route, and Eldoret if it is the Malaba route. I would want it to be easy to get a bus the next morning to finish the trip. I prefer bus to vans due to luggage. And I am not in a hurry, and busses in my experience have more room. As to the visa, I could either do a visa on arrival or get one at the Ugandan emba... more »

Cheap Hotels in East Kampala (near Bugolobi)

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good cheap hotels near Bugolobi. I'm going to be working in Kampala for a week so ideally need reliable power, desk and internet.

I've stayed at Red Chilli in previous years but was looking for something a bit quieter if possible. I'm also a poor masters student so very much on a budget

Any suggestions for this scenario would be welcome.

Many thanks.

How many blank pages in passport?

I'm heading to Africa this summer....I'm flying into Zambia, then travelling through Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, and may possibly enter into Zimbabwe and/or Malawi.

I have 9 blank pages left in my passport at the moment and am wondering if anyone knows if this will be enough? I have phoned a few of the embassies and they all seem to say that I need 2 or 3!!! (Tanzania) blank pages! This seems like an awful lot, and contradicts a lot of information on the internet. Has anyone been recently that can shed any light on how many passport pages I really need?

Thanks!!

Anybody want to travel to Uganda before June 1st?

I am looking for a travel buddy who is interested in gorilla trekking before the prices go back up to $500. I am living in Tanzania right now and want to take advantage of the $350 gorilla trekking permits. Any takers?

Visa on arrival at land points of entry

I will be traveling from Nairobi to Kampala by land. Online maps show the 2 entry points are at Mabala and Busia. I don’t know which one I would go through yet. My first question is, can I get a Visa on Arrival for Uganda at either or both of those entry points?

Also, I know Kenya’s single entry visa allows for reentry into Kenya if going to Uganda. Does Uganda’s single entry visa also allow reentry? I expect I will go from Uganda into Tanzania and Rwanda, and then reenter Uganda.

Flooding in Kasese District

Hi,

I'm heading to Uganda at the end of May and was wondering if anyone has any experience of how the terrible recent floods are affecting transport in the Kasese district?

I will be driving up from Bwindi to QENP to Fort Portal so any info on this route would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Gorilla trekking in early July 2013

Hi,

I'm just arranging to do a 4-day trip in Uganda through a local company, covering Bwindi NP gorilla trek and Queen Elizabeth NP game viewing, from 3-6 July 2013. Trip starts and finishes in Kampala and there are still gorilla permits available for this trek date as of 11 May.

Currently I'm the only person siging up for this trip but if any one else is interested in joining they'd be most welcome. This will reduce the cost per person, and it would also be nice to have the extra company.!
If you're interested, please feel free to contact me and I'll send you the details. email: fibr@outlook.com

Sleeping Bags!

Hi - we're off to Uganda in August - planning to camp for most of the time and am wondering whether we'll need sleeping bags. My partner travelled overland through Africa some time ago and insists that she only took a sheet with her and was fine. Having just bought some 2 season snugpak sleeping bags and found that they take up more space in our backpacks than I'd expected I'm wondering whether we really need them. Any advice? We're not planning on doing any high altitude trekking.

Itinerary and how to get about....

My partner and I are going to Uganda in October/November for 5 weeks, the primary reason being the Hybrid Eclipse near Pakwach on 3rd November. Our itinerary so far includes:
Entebbe
Kampala
Jinja
Mbale
Mt Elgon
Pakwach & Murchison
Fort Portal
Kibale
Semuliki
Queen Elizabeth NP
Bwindi
Buhoma
Entebbe

We wondered whether it was worth hiring a 4 x 4 vvehicle and at what point along the journey would be best to do that; and also, any good websites for booking budget accommodation.
Thanks for any help :)
