Hi, I will be in Nigeria volunteering and will finish after Sept 17and would like to visit my son in the Peace Corps in Gbinty Dibia in sierra Leone.
My questions:
1. Can I get a visa at the Freetown airport as a US citizen?
2. What is the best way to get to Freetown from Abuja?
3. How far is Gbinty Dibia from Freetown? Since I am on a budget I want to know whether it is safe to take a bush bus from Freetown to Gbinty Dibia and where would I catch the bus? Does it have a place for suitcase? do I have to keep a close eye on my suitcase? I heard that a car hire is very expensive.
4. Anything about Gbinty Dibia or its vicinity that is interesting/
Appreciate your help.

Hi!
Would like to ask if it is safe, ok to wait during the night on Lungi airport to wait until sunrise and catch the first ferry. I only found out the Lungi Airport Hotel which is too much for my budget. Is there any cheap hostel? Usually I have no problems staying somewhere alone, but this time as being a girl alone during the night i rather ask. I will be arrivnig at 2 am, so will need to wait a bit until the morning comes.
Thanks for the advice!

Hiya all,
I and two of my mates are planning to go to Sierra Leone for 10 days in November. We would like very much to travel on bikes around the country.
I have heard that there were no bike renting companies at the moment but that it could be done after a bit of browsing around Freetown. Looking for 125cc-250cc bikes. Any tips or contacts? We'll look into the route we want to take very soon but any advices on that more than welcome. Places to see in 10 days? Any other info/links on Sierra Leone would be more than welcome Cheers
Vince

Hi all, I'm going to be in Sierra Leone for a few weeks and I need to get from Kenema to Kent and then from Kent to Freetown. I was wondering if there was some easy way of doing this...perhaps a bus line?
Thanks!

Hi,
from august till december/january I will live and travel in Sierra Leone. At the moment I am looking for the best way to go there. Due to personal reasons I'd prefer not to fly.
Does anyone of you have already entered S.L. by ship (freighter)? I found one line, that goes to west africa (leaving from Hamburg or Amsterdam) but not to Freetown directly. I can choose between disembarcation in Abidjan/Ivory Coast and in Dakar/Senegal. In both cases I would have to travel further over land and I assume that's not the easiest thing during rainy season.
So, do you know a freighter line that goes to Freetown or maybe Monrovia/Liberia (leaving somewhere from Europe)? Or is there a local line within west africa that takes passengers from Abidjan to Freetown (e.g.)?
Is it even possible to go from Abidjan to Freetown over land in july/august? How long does the journey take and how much do...

We are two dutch students staying in Ghana at the moment. We are planning to travel to Europe by land. We want to pass trough Sierra Leone (Ivory coast, Liberia, Guinea, Senegal, Mauretania) and would like to know:
1) where do we get our visas? (it would be the best at the border? but is this possible?).
2) what are the different options and costs?
Thank you very much!

Hi,
I've got a rather last minute question regarding the helicopter service from Lungi to Freetown. I'm currently stuck in the London airport and discovered my flight won't be getting in until 10 or 11pm, rather than 7pm. I was planning to take the helicopter across, but I can't find anywhere how late the service runs. Does anyone know if it will be running that late or if I should try for a hotel in Lungi? Thank you very much!

According to this article the same flakes that failed in Fiji have their sights set on Sierra Leone.

Hi everyone...here is my story of 2 weeks SL...loved the place and it was good fun.
I live in Hong Kong so I flew with Kenya Airways to Freetown (had organized the visa in Nairobi for a 100 US$) - got there and took Pelican water taxi for 40 bucks, didnt like the helicopter and the hoovercraft wasnt running (the road will take you hours)... stayed at the Charms beach hotel in Aberdeen the 1st night - it's alright for 35$ u get aircon at night and a continental breaky in the morning. The next day I moved into town and stayed at the Place Guest House - I hang around downtown for one day and went to Bo by bus - I recommed the government bus over Abess bus anytime...Abess is just shit... government busses are new (Ghadafi paid for these last year) - and continued to Potoru by poda poda to go to Tiwai island sanctuary; it was too dark to go to the island so I stayed at the Tiwai island ...

Hi!
Be v grateful for any info- Me and my son are volunteering in the summer on a workcamp but the flights seem prohibitively expensive. What alternatives are there? Are the roads/rail too difficult and slow from Accra or Dakar with too many visas to buy? Or are there cheap flights in via say Morocco?
Thanks,
Susanna

Hey All,
I am moving to Freetown for five months this week. Was hoping someone would be willing to answer a few questions to help me prepare for the trip.
Best,
Lis
