My company wants to send me to Nigeria (specifically Lagos and Abuja) for work. I will be traveling there alone. I wanna ask if it is ok for a woman like me to travel to Nigeria alone? What can you advise?

Hello all-
I am going to be in Nigeria for 8 months starting in a few weeks. I would during this time like to take a side trip to Ghana, Benin or Togo- probably Ghana. Does anyone know about the Visa situation for getting into these countries from Nigeria? The process of getting a Nigerian entry visa has been horribly complex and aggrivating, and I fear these other countries might be similar. Hopefully not? Do you need a letter of invitation to go to any or all of these countries, or hotel reservations (I will probably have neither)? If you are travelling by bus from Lagos to Accra, do you need any kind of visa for Togo/Benin, or can you just ride on thru? Thanks very much for your help.
Also: I will be mostly staying in Ife, Nigeria. Does anyone know any useful tidbits about the place?

How can I find out if Femi Kuti plays at his shrine next week in Lagos, or the schedule of performances? Is it worth to go if he doesnt play?

It looks as though yet another African airline is about to go under. Virgin Nigeria which has just been re-branded as Nigerian Eagle is apparently due to have their whole fleet of Boeings repossessed tomorrow!
Anyone flying that way soon, be careful about buying your tickets! Personally having lost out due to Air Senegal's demise I strongly advise that you buy inter-regional African tickets THERE, rather than before leaving home! Bellview are in trouble with IATA & grounded, a few others are in serious trouble.
Please be careful about pre-booking; there are always seats at the moment!

Hi Everyone, I am heading to Nigeria on business and wanted to bring some food items with me for the staff. What would be good, interesting, North American food-stuffs that I could bring that you can't get in Nigeria?
I am from Canada so I think I'll bring maple syrup for sure... can you think of anything else?

First of all would like to ask how safe it is to walk around, and second any tips for places to go/visit/enjoy.
Thanks!

Hi fellow travellers,
I'm supposed to go to Kano in November for 5 days. How's the situation there?.....I'm quite worried by the situation that could be out of control suddently. Are europeans at risk?
Is there anyone in Kano that could give me updated information?...
Many thanks,
Kao.

I am off to do voluntary work in a place called Ekpoma, which is apparently about 5 hours from Lagos. But I can't seem to find it on any maps.
Does anyone know much about the place?
I am to work in an orphanage/school run by catholic nuns. I want to find out as much as I can about the place, yet there is nothing much on the internet.
Also, I was wondering if it is still the case that woman should wear skirts and dresses rather than pants and shorts?
I hope there is someone around that can help me.
Many thanks : )

Hi,
I am moving to Nigeria to do a first job there, however it is paid on an internship salary only, apparently not much considering pricely Abuja (apparently you pay easily US $ 800-900 for a room). Does anyone have ideas, contacts or knowledge about cheap hostels in Abuja, rooms for rent/ shared apartements etc.?
Any help or hints would be welcome.
The budget hostels listed in Lonely Planet can not be reached by telephone nor email.
Best,
jt

Bit of an odd request but thanks to Eed we cant get a DVD out to Nigeria for monday that we really really need to get sent.
Is anyone going to Nigeria in the next few days from the UK?
There would be some sort of compensation from us.
This is an above-board item: just a documentary DVD!

Hi,
I will fly from Dakar to Accra with a stop in Lagos. Do I need a Nigerian transit visa? Or will it be alright to stay in the airport.
Thanks!

BBC is reporting new unrest in Northern Nigeria - usual rules about being careful if you are travelling apply I suppose.

Hi,
I'm traveling to Abuja, Bauchi and Makurdi, and have been reading conflicting information about what appropriate dress is in that region. I know that it's more formal than I'm used to, but are pants ok? Can my skirts reach my knees without covering them? Do I need my elbows and collarbone covered?
Thanks!
