Donkey trek in Atlas mountain

Hi,
I am planning to hike in the Atlas mountains in Marocco for a week, on a donkey back. Does anyone have experience with this? Would be happy to get some information how to go about.
My dream is to travel on the donkey back and sleep in guesthouses.

regards
kaja

Travelling Morocco for a Month. Ned some advice.

I'm flying out to Marrakech on the 28th of this month and spending twelve days with family split between Marrakech and Essaouira after which my family are flying back to the UK and leaving me to travel alone in Essaouira. I plan on meeting fellow travellers in hostels (a friend suggested hostel Essaouira) and then going from there. I'm on a fairly tight budget (£500) for 18 days travel and plan on staying in cheap hostels and using CMT buses to get around. I'd originally planned on doing a loop from Essaouria out to Merzouga up to Chefchaouen then back to Marrakesh (with stop offs in between these main destinations) to fly back on the 28th July. Having read through the forum a bit I've realised that unfortunately an overnight stay in the sahara may be out of the question - some even suggesting against travelling inland entirely! It's a tricky one as I'm travelling alone and want to me... more »

Marrakesh 23.-27 of June

Hey fellow travellers,
I am planning on visiting Marrakesh around the above dates. Anyone interested in joining me, since I heard from some people that for a girl it is more fun to travel there when you have company?!? I have no specific plans what I want to do and could possible also arrive later if that would be easier for anyone.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Katharina

Travel in July

Hello, my husband and I are travelling to Morocco for a week in July. We are flying into Casablanca on the 6th and heading straight to Marrakech.

We really wanted to go into the desert from Merzouga, but it sounds like it will be too hot and too far out of the way for our timing. Do people agree? We are also hoping to spend a couple of days in Fez. We will then head to Tangier and then spend our second week in Spain.

How much should we expect our trip to be affected by Ramadan?

Thank you!

Advice please on riding local city bus in Morocco

Hi all ! I am going to Morocco in September and just curious on the protocol in riding local city bus - specifically around Marrakech and Fez. Partly to stretch my dirham and also for the experience - I would prefer taking the bus over the taxi.

Just want to know the following:

1. Do I pay the driver upfront?
2. How much is the fare - does it depends on l where I am going (no fix fare)? Can I just pay the maximum if I don't know where exactly I'm headed?
3. Are there designated boarding/stop spots?

I will much appreciate any inputs. TIA!

Agadir - Merzouga/Sahara Trip

Hi
We are travelling around Morocco this July. Flying into Marrakesh, train to Rabat, hiring a car to take us down to Essaouria and Agadir then bus back to Marrakesh.

We are looking to fit in a Sahara overnight (1/2 nights) trip whilst travelling back to Marrakesh from Agadir. Would this be possible to do? We have read that Merzouga is a good place to start these trips. Does anyone know the best way to get to Merzouga from Agadir, or are we best heading back to Marrakesh first? Also, are we best booking this trip beforeheand or waiting until we get there?

If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.

Oh we are travelling from 22nd July - 12th August. I know this is Ramadan. will that make a difference to the Sahara trip?

Thank you :)

Eid travel plans

Hi,

I will be arriving in Tangier on the afternoon or evening of August 7, which is the last day of Ramadan/first day of Eid. My plan is to take the overnight train to Marrakesh, then spend the next two weeks going back to Tangier.

Will Eid celebrations affect my plans? Since I cannot buy train tickets in advance, will the train be sold out by the time I arrive, or will it be cancelled because of the holiday?

I am not Muslim. Is this a holiday celebrated publicly with events I could witness?

Thanks.

Side Trip to Morocco from Spain

Hi All - I'm fairly a newbie to traveling (took my first trip last January). I'm taking my second trip this upcoming January to Spain and really want to do a side trip (4 days max to Morocco). I'm traveling solo so I don't feel comfortable doing it by myself. Does anyone have recommendations for a tour group company that isn't a complete nightmare and rip-off? Also, what cities would you recommend as "have to see" while I'm there? I would love to do a desert tour with a camel ride - I've been reading up on those. Anyone have any experience with one? Thanks so much for your help!!

High Atlas, Anti-Atlas, Desert, Etc.

Hello All,

I'm finally headed back to Morocco in August and have a few questions regarding the second leg of my trip. I studied at AUI last fall, so have a general feel for the country, but neglected exploring much of the south.

I'll be coming down from the Med. Coast (Nador-Fes-Azrou/Ifrane-/Midelt-???). Now, I'm not sure yet if I'm going to use up a night by simply going from Fes to Ifrane or Azrou as I know all three of those places very well. But would my best bet for getting to the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs/Todgha and Dades Gorge/Ouarzazate be to go through Errachidia? I'm completely reliant on public transport, which I'm sure makes a difference. (Also, regarding Midelt, I visited the monastery there last fall. The priests/brothers, from what I understood, said that they host people in a guest house but their website says nothing about it. Can anyone confirm or deny this?)

Casablanca to Meknes

Kia Ora

I land a day before my partner and will be staying at a hotel near the central Train Station Voyageurs. She lands at 1pm the following day and we want to head straight to Meknes.

Does she catch a train into the city centre Voyageurs and I meet her there or does the train depart for Meknes from Mohamed V, in which case I head back to the airort to meet her?

Cheers

trekking in High Atlas with Terre D"ame - mixed experience

This is a mixed review. We (my wife and I) signed up for a 5 day/4 night trek to climb M'Goun in Morocco. The trek itself was fantastic - great scenery, outstanding guide (Ibrahim). Ibrahim has 25 years experience guiding, has a great sense of humor and cares immensely about taking care of his clients. The food prepared by the cook/muleteer (Aisa) was fantastic - created full three-course varied dinners including couscous, tagine, pasta and homemade bread. Couldn't have been better.

The disappointing side was dealing with Mohammed Imharkin, the owner of the company. He was quite disorganized. We had arranged for sleeping bags to be packed for us and we paid for them. He forgot to include them and we ended up sleeping somewhat uncomfortably under blankets. When I first mentioned this to him, he tried to say it was my fault for not reminding him. Later, he apologized and said he had... more »

Driving from Zaouiat Cheikh to Todra via Imilchil

Hello
Does anyone have experience driving from Zaouiat Cheikh to Todra / Tinghir via Imilchil min June? Can you tell me about the road conditions and approx travel time? Is a 4x4 required? I am not able to find any pictures or info from my searches. There is also a different road (ggl maps R704) that ends in Dades ,is that better or worse? It looks like it mostly runs thru the valleys.

Thank you for you help

Royal Air Maroc

Hello,
I've read many negative reports about Royal Air Maroc. Has anyone flown from London to Casablanca recently? How is the trip? I am very leery of this airlines but I got a good deal so I bought the ticket.
Thanks for any feedback on this topic.
