Does anyone know if the land border between Djibouti to Eritrea is open? Is it possible for foreigners (UK passport) to get an Eritrean visa in Djibouti ville and proceed overland to Assab, Eritrea and onwards to Asmara for flights out to Cairo?
I would like to get to Asmara from Djibouti. I wonder whether it would be more convenient to reach Asmara from Nairobi or from Sanaa.
I also would appreciate if you could let me know what should I do in order to get a tourist visa (I am based in Djibouti now).
Any other recommendation about the country would be more than welcome.
We will have a free day in Asmara in February 2014 (we like to plan early!) and are looking for recommendations re. a guide with good English to take us around and tell us about life in Eritrea. A female would be great. Thank you!
I am traveling to Eritrea in October and am wondering if anybody else will be traveling there too and would like to meet up and maybe see some sights together?
I am in Ethiopia at the moment then I go to Somaliland, Djibouti and then fly from Djibouti City via Yemen to Asmara on the 28th of September. I will be in Eritrea for 10 days and it would be good to maybe connect with some other travelers! I haven't booked any accommodation yet but I will be looking into it over the next few days.
Anyways, let me know:)
I called the embassy and was told with a reference in Eritrea it would expedite the process because they want to make sure I'm really going there for tourism. Recently visas are harder to get. Otherwise with just an application it may get rejected or get no answers from Asmara.
The embassy will contact this person......I don't know anyone in Eritrea, has anyone used a reference and who did you use?
Thanks very much
Any recent experience? likely cancellation and delays?
They fly direct from Asmara to Khartoum, saves me time flying to Cairo and connecting.
The website still shows schedules from 2011 and booking doesn't work. Anyone know how to buy a ticket?
Thanks very much
It's possible to get Eritrea visas in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. And it's possible to get flights from Jeddah to Asmara.
I plan to be in Eritrea around May 16th if anyone is there.
Has anyone tried to get an Eritrean visa from the Washington DC embassy recently? I read Chris Gilleabeu's failed attempts at getting the visa.. he tried 3 times with no success (http://chrisguillebeau.com/3x5/upon-being-deported-from-eritrea/).
I read in an older posting that it's not possible to cross the land border from Eritrea to Sudan. Does anyone have recent information on that? Thanks
I'm a British national who is currently based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the next six months.
I am keen to visit Asmara for a weekend in a month or two. However, I would like advice on where the best place is to apply (or send my passport) for a visa. And does anyone know a convenient (and not too expensive) flight from Saudi Arabia to Eritrea, which can be achieved in a weekend?
I recently returned from a great 2 week trip to Eritrea. I am an australian citizen and managed to get a visa easily from the consulate in melbourne- $80 with no need to show proof of flight.
Flights to Eritrea are quite expensive as competition is very limited. I paid $440 return from Dubai to Asmara on Egyptair. This flight is one of Eritrea's main connections with the outside world. The arrival and departure times for this flight are pretty grim - arrive to Asmara at 3am and depart at 4am.
The taxi fare from the airport to the centre cost 300 Nakfa ($1= 15 Nakfa) which is very expensive given it's a relatively short distance. The fare is apparently half that amount during the day.
As has been mentioned on this forum previously, you need to declare all your foreign currency on arrival. This is recorded on a document and adjusted every time you change mone... more »
Has there been any news about http://www.seawaterfoundation.org/sea_eritrea.html
and its Sea water farm?
we are having trouble with ticketing on a flight. with eritrean airllines from jeddah to asmara return. We can book online but cant find an agent to issue tickets. Any clues ? Thanks in anticipation
Just read that Khartoum no longer issue tourist visas so where can I get an Eritrea visa easily? Many thanks in advance
Is anyone here familiar with the Eritrean Embassy in London? Specifically on whether they only issue tourist visas to UK nationals and residents? Common sense would suggest calling the embassy (which I will try), but my experience tells me the chance of getting an informative or accurate answer are rather slim...
