Guidebook Updates PDFs

Welcome to Lonely Planet's Guidebook Updates PDFs. Download the examples in this thread to see the new feature that we're very excited about.

What's that, I hear you ask?
We take the hundreds of guidebook corrections we receive each month from our readers, bundle them into snazzy PDFs for each guidebook, order them by page number, add a cover image so you know you have the right PDF for your guidebook and then post them all on the Thorn Tree's Guidebook Updates branch. For you to download. For free!

How often are they updated?
The PDFs will be updated each month, reliant on us receiving new updates for each book. The individual guidebook threads will denote when the PDF was last updated.

Updates on Xijiang, Guizhou

LP staff - here are some updates for your next China edition. On second thought, go back to Xijiang. The place is completely changed from what's described in the May 2009 guidebook.

1. There's a 60 yuan entrance fee, planned to go up to a whopping 100 yuan in april 2010!
2. There's a new road here from Kaili, it takes only 1 hr. Here's the new bus schedule:
Kaili - Xijiang : 0900, 1030, 1230, 1430, 1630
Xijiang - Kaili: 0730, 0830,1000, 1300, 1500
Xijiang - Leishan: 0630-1730, regular buses
3. You can't feel you're the "only one who's found the place" as LP puts it. There's an enormous parking lot, full of chinese tour buses even in the off season, a big ticketing booth and a crowd of policemen at the entrance. The main street's under construction, but already lined with wood exterior, english sign shops, cafes and guesthouses. There's a huge hotel on the opposite riverbank. N... more »

Bad experience with Abu Assan Alternative tours in Jerusalem

Hello,

I had a very bad experience with the tour ageny Abu Asan alternative tours in Jerusalem. The agency is recommended by the Israel and the Palestine territories guidebook in the page 410.

I wanted to do my myseld the dead sea tour of the agency that normally costs 190 shekels ( divide by four for USD) as the agency did not gather enought people to do the tour. The owner of the agency Mr. Hassan was absolutey not clear about the final price of the tour as he said to me by phone the price was 190 shekels. Furthermore I only had a driver to accompany me and no tour guide whatsoever.

At tht time of paying Abu Assan argued that he needed 5 persons to fill the van and charged me 190x 5 !!!! 760 shekels. Firts of all maybe a misunderstading can be argued on this case however if for thîs price the tourists get a GUIDE and not just a driver in the package, I do not see why I... more »

LP 2008 Pak/KKH book is full of errors.

2008 LP Pak/KKH book is full of errors
Has anyone noticed that the colour inset map of the KKH region at the start of the 2008 LP book on KKH and Pak. claims that Uzbekistan is in western China and that Turkmenistan is to be found on the Pak. side of the Wakhan coridoor which divides Tajikistan , Afghanistan and Pakistan.???????

These dudes are off their tits if they think anyone could take them seriously. Much of the book seems to be based on hearsay and PTDC leaflets.

Asalaam aleykoom!

next LP PNG guidebook?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a new LP PNG book coming out in the new future (I don't want to buy one now if a new one is out in a couple months). Looks like they may be due for a new one, since the current edition is around 1.5 years old.

In general, is there any way to find out what LP's schedule is for releasing guidebooks for different countries?

Thanks!

Crossing from China to Pakistan on the KKH

Dateline Gilgit!

There seems to be a good deal of confusion and misinformation about this route floating around the internet at the moment. As I am now sitting in the Madina Guesthouse in Gilgit having arrived from China yesterday I thought it would be helpful to clear things up.

Firstly, the rumour that "foreigners aren't allowed on public transport on the Chinese side of the KKH" is totally, entirely false, and after talking to people in Kashgar, and people who have made the trip in recent months I can assure all that this has NEVER been the case. Throughout this summer a modest trickle of foreign tourists have been taking the bus from Kashgar to Pakistan without difficulties.
The source of this rumour, which is being bandied about by some people as "fact", may be a garbled third-hand report about some people having trouble getting through Chinese customs without a Pakistan v... more »

Tunga's guesthouse is not a nice place

Hi,
the Lonely Planet of Mongolia mentions you can stay in Tariat in this guesthouse called 'Tunga's Guesthouse.' We went there, but after one night in Tunga's guesthouse we went looking for another place because we weren't happy at all at this 'guesthouse' which is just a big room with 3 beds and if there's more people you have to sleep on the floor. That I do not mind, it was just her attitude. Tunga, the woman who runs it, was all about the money. From the second we met her she kept going on about all the things and tours she could arrange for us and kept asking us about our plans. We just wanted to relaxe a little and browse and think about what we wanted to do next, but she kept 'pushing' us into all these things she was ready to arrange. Unlike the LP says, you can't do your laundry there. In fact she literally told us that it was in the LP only because she did it for the guy ... more »

Peru guidebook

I found a nice little hostal in a charming and safe neighborhood . I bought the Foot Print book, 2008 version and i found it. Barranco is very nice, you can walk at night without problems. The hostel name is La Casa Barranco , and have big rooms with comfty beds. Basics as coffee, tea and oil are provided for your use in the kitchen and there is a well-provided supermarket nearby. Bathroom shared but very clean and with real hot water. If you wanna contact you can find it in the last version of foot print book, or in hostelworld too. the email is lacasabarranco@yahoo.es or visit this web( is a good one) www.lacasabarranco.com
hope you can add this hostel in your book, thanks
