Messages: 2,365 - Threads: 44
For those that haven't been following this mega-thread on LP and the future of the forum ; I've cross-posted the latest news here.
We're now several weeks into substantial piece of work to replace the broken TT engine with something we can fix and improve more quickly.
* It's not a radical change at this point (unless you think actually working is a radical change), though the look of the forum will be tweaked so it's consistent with the rest of the website
* Everyone will switch over to a beta of the replacement TT by the end of the year
* This is step zero of (re)building the best travel community in the solar system, which is much more than just a technical challenge
Posted a reply on the WE forum and this popped up:

In "My Thorn Tree", I find Asia - Indian Subcontinent (3), Archived (-3). What does this mean? Does it mean they are no longer available for viewing? If so, why is this?
As we’ve removed the ability to share links to blogs in signature lines and on member profiles, I feel it’s worth providing clarification about what we consider acceptable blog promotion within the spirit of our community guidelines
Readers tend to trust links provided by content producers who make them feel confident. When providing a link to an external website, provide as much detail as possible so the reader appreciates the need to follow the link for more information. It’s important to spend the time to explain your link so readers know it’s worth their time to click on it. Otherwise, it can seem like you’re only posting to promote your site, and your message may be reported by a fellow forum member as SPAM.
Sharing the URL of your blog or travel video might seem logical, but it’s actually an infringement of our [commun... more »
why cant we private mail now. thank you
Word-up. Most folks are now running hi-def wide screen. Time to upgrade Thorn Tree for 16:9 1920x1080. Otherwise wasting tons of white space left and right. And please don't fill the space with Java-based (your) adverts ;-)
Hello! I'm hoping to get some answers from other people that manage their business's page on Lonely Planet. We're an adventure activity in Thailand called Flight of the Gibbon. We currently have the most votes under "things to do in Chiang Mai" but are listed as #2 to another attraction with less votes! Does anyone know why this is?
It seems that the new layout of the 'overview' section of a destination (i.e lonelyplanet.com/country) has changed - before there was always a list of the highlights of a particular destination down the left hand side... I for one found this very useful, does anyone know if this will make a return at any stage??
The automatic holding back of posts for premoderation due to key words seems to be erratic , on a hair trigger and not reliable. Perhaps this system is more trouble than it is worth.
my name is in the lonely planet in last to edition (Iran 2007 and 2012 ). my web site is www.TripToPersia.com in book they wrote my web site but in web site they may forget , just i try to correct the information , i would like to know should i send email also ? if they want to contact me for conformation how long would it take ?
Thanks - Arash
There used to be a setting selection of how many threads per page you wanted to view.
Now I can't find it.
Please tell me either where it is, or that it no longer exists.
How can i make one of my own thread be removed?
I posted this trip report on the US branch. Now it seems to be have been shiften to the Blogger branch. Why move the thread to a non-destination branch- I've posted several trip reports on the destination branches (but not US) before.
I tend to ask travel questions about the destination on the destination branch- so what's the problem if the trip report is posted there too?
Is it possible to change my username without having to delete this account and start from scratch again?
