Private Message archive now open
Hello everyone,
We have now re-opened the Private Message archive for members to retrieve the messages they had stored in their Lonely Planet profiles before the functionality was disabled.
From today and until Friday 12th April 2013 you will be able to access your Private Messages by logging in to lonelyplanet.com and then clicking on
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/members/messages
As you know, the ability to send or receive new Private Messages will not be reactivated during this period.
The last day when Private Messages will be accessible for users will be Friday 12th April 2013. If you have any other questions that pertain your PMs, please send us an email via the Contact Us page at lonelyplanet.com.

PM archive & How to get in touch with other members
Hi all,
We have now added an option to the profile settings page for Twitter handles and Skype usernames to be displayed publicly on your profile page if you wish - this option is the alternative to Private Messaging in Thorn Tree from now on, as PM functionality won't be coming back. To add your Twitter/Skype usernames, just go to your profile page and then click on Settings at the top. The Twitter and Skype fields will appear underneath 'Country'. Suffice to say Lonely Planet is not responsible for communications on Twitter or Skype. Twitter and Skype have separate terms and conditions which apply if you want to use them. We understand this may be disappointing to some of you, but it is the best solution we have found following our review and amendment of our guidelines.
With regards to the archive of Private Messages currently existing in Thorn Tree, there are plans to open i...

Welcome back to Thorn Tree
Q) Thorn Tree's back! Great! Where have you been?
We made the decision to temporarily close Thorn Tree over the holiday period. We recognise it wasn't the best time of year to do so and we're sorry for any inconvenience. The good news is that we're now up and running in a limited state, and we're going to be scaling back up from here.
Q) What's changed round here?
We have amended and strengthened our guidance to ensure users have the best experience possible, strong/abusive language and off-topic posting are not acceptable and we wish to ensure users of Thorn Tree are treated with respect. We have tightened up our criteria to ensure it is as editorially relevant as possible. Off-topic posts will be deleted. You can find the new guidelines here (<a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.lonelyplanet.com/community-guidelines" t... more »
Business Accounts in Thorn Tree
Hi everyone,
There has been some questions about this in the past and I would like to make the current policy clear to members:
Thorn Tree is a forum for individual travellers to meet other travellers, not a place for businesses to engage in conversation with disgruntled users or gain exposure, therefore business accounts are not allowed in TT and any users identified as such will have their accounts terminated. This includes users:
- identifying themselves as a business in their message, signature, avatar, profile, and any external links redirecting to their business or site
- doing stealth business via PMs
- the usual newbies suddenly recommending a particular website, service or company in all their posts
We would appreciate if you could report users you suspect fall under this category by clicking in the "Report Member" link in their profiles and we will look into it... more »

Moving of thread to other branches
I posted this trip report on the US branch. Now it seems to be have been shiften to the Blogger branch. Why move the thread to a non-destination branch- I've posted several trip reports on the destination branches (but not US) before.
I tend to ask travel questions about the destination on the destination branch- so what's the problem if the trip report is posted there too?
cheers

Can I change my 'username' ?
Is it possible to change my username without having to delete this account and start from scratch again?
Draft messages lost...
About a week ago I saved a detailed Ethiopia trip report as a draft message. I was able to edit it under Forum Activity at the bottom right hand side. It has now disappeared. Please advise how I can access it again.
Thank you
Nikki

Trying to access an old thread "No currently available"?
I posted it in 2009 "2 Week Itiniary Zargreb-Plitvice-Split-Hvar-Dubrovnik" following my trip. I'm now clicking on it and "The thread requested is not currently available" what does this mean and how do I get it back? Someone I know is going to Croatia and I'd like to pass this on? I would also like to keep for my own purposes so if I can get it back ASAP that would be fab!
Dear Lonely Planet Thorn Tree
You have
Shrunk the text to unreadable size.
Reintroduced the Your Recent Threads bug.
Done something strange with the logged in/not logged in/profile thing in the upper right corner.
Put it back like it was,
Leave it alone until you figure out how to test changes.

Bring back "My recent threads" on the right pane
Hi,
I don't know if this is temporary but it seems now if I want to access my recent threads, I have to click on my avatar then forum activity then recent threads. What as wrong with the way it was? It was so convenient to just open thornthree and then see the recent threads on the same window. Now I have to go through several steps just to go from one thread to another.
Watch functionality enabled again
Hi all,
the watch functionality has been turned on again today, so you can 'watch' threads and get a notification email once new posts have been added to them. It all should be hunky dory but If you spot any issues with this please report them here.
