Cancelling a trip

My partner and I had planned a RTW trip with NZ and SE Asia involved, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we may have to cancel.

Does anyone know if this is something that can be done?
We booked through Travel Nation, and we don't have any travel insurance atm, but if we could get some that meant getting refunded on the flights, we would.

What do you think??

Round the world without planes

I am planning for year-end, early 2014 to make my first RTW (Round The World) by road low cost, without ever taking airplanes; the only means of which will definetly use my legs, steps fortune by local bus, bicycles , and cargo with which will cross the oceans; sleeping in a tent, on the street, in the fields, on beaches, by my host thanks to "couchsurfing" and in case of necessity in some hostel.

The trip will start from Florence, Italy, as you can see from the map in the link below, until you get to the Strait of Gibraltar (where I will try to get without spending one euro, riding a bike and thanks to my legs), before diving into the dark continent, I will visit from north to south, then going from the east, coming later in the Middle East, then freeing the vast expanse Asia. Athens to Cairo

Hey,

I have been recently thrashing around a few ideas in my head for a trip and one that came to mind was to try and travel from Athens to Cairo through Turkey, Israel etc. I know there will be countless stumbling blocks, most notably country relations and border disputes, but I thought I would at least try and put it together. I can't really find any decent info of anyone who has done something similar on the net. Firstly I have done lots of travelling before and I would probably be looking at 3-4 weeks away. I really want to see Athens, Istanbul, Israel (Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv etc.), Petra, The Pyramids in Giza, Alexandria and maybe Luxor. That probably sounds like a lot and infeasible. Visas information for under 18

Hi,

I am taking a gap year (starting really soon!--I had to get it approved before I could start planning... but I AM SO EXCITED!!!) and I'm planning to travel to multiple countries/continents. All of my plans are 'potentials' at the moment, but I do want to have the option of traveling to a country (or region) for more than 90 days. I won't be 18 until the end of my gap year, so is it possible for me to get a visa? Where can I find more information about visas (I'm from the US)? I have recent European decent- would it be easier to get a dual-citizenship/is that doable in a 6-month window/should I even consider that?

RTW Itinerary Question

This seems like a simple question but I can't seem to find an answer.

If I get a RTW ticket do I always need to takeoff from the city I land in?

Ex. If i fly to Bangkok, can I then travel over ground around southeast asia and into China and then next get on a plane in Beijing and take it to Moscow. Then take trains from Moscow to turkey and get on a plane again in Turkey to go to Tanzania?

Can my tickets look like this: Melbourne to Bangkok; Beijing to Moscow; Istanbul to Tanzania?

Or does it have to be Melbourne to Bangkok; Bangkok to Beijing; Beijing to Moscow, Moscow to Istanbul, Istanbul to Tanzania?

I'd really much rather have air travel as only part of the trip but most sites seem to assume there wont be any ground travel.

how to travel as much of south east asia mainland and maritime as possible

Hello there,
I am currently living in Melbourne on my working holiday visa and now that I saved a good bit of money for future travels I want to go on.
A plan that seems quite appealing to me is to go from here via great ocean road to adelaide, from there via ghan train (which is cheaper through rock tours I guess) to alice springs, do the ayers rock tour and go to darwin to go to the kakadu national park. Rock tours also offers a 2 day trip through this park.
My whole outback experience would therefor be in the hands of a tourguide, whcih does not trouble me too much as I heard it is quite hard to get around and get around well on your own. I would like to hear your opinions and experiences on this as well, but here I come to my main question.
I really want to go to south east asia from darwin but here I am not too sure how to and how easy it is in the end.

Open-ended RTW trip

I'm leaving on an open-ended RTW trip in a few weeks and wanted some feedback on my itinerary (as it were) and whatnot. I'm a photographer whose focus is ruins, landscapes and architecture. Other interests are classic books, WWII history, UNESCO sites, cool natural phenomenon. Budget is US$27,000, no time limit. I've already bought most major flights (FF miles), paid for insurance, vaccinations.

Gear:

• 30L Vaude Gallery Air
• Nikon D7000 & two lenses (Tokina 12-24, Nikkor 35mm 1.8 if you're curious)
• 11" MacBook Air & skinny external HDD for backup.
• Kindle
• Unlocked iPhone 4S.
• a few pieces of clothing for padding
• good hiking/walking boots

• Oz: Sydney, Blue Mountains, visiting friends in Newcastle and Brisbane on the way up to Great Barrier Reef.
• NZ: South Island (landscapes, maybe some snowboarding), Tongariro Nat'l Park and Hobbi...

6 months volunteer /travel/work america

I'm putting together trip to travel:

Galapagos islands for conservation/community involvement volunteer 2 months July.
Travel to Cuba 10 days.
Fly to California, do a road trip including the National Parks, San Fran and a few moderate hikes.

Finally move to Canada to work in my own profession for 6 months-1 year, science background.
??visas, ability to get work etc and good hikes . My plan is flexible to add new places to the list.
budget is prob €8000. Again this can be changed
Any advice appreciated, I'm over 35 years old and new to this.
