Want to leave Indonesia ASAP as crew on a sailboat headed to Central America. Can fly to convenient port, not much experience but a lot of enthusiasm. Contact me if you're out there and we can go over specs.

I need to know who out their can make this suggestion on travel light.
I want to go to an island where you are free. Some place you can go where being dressed is an option.
hi!
together with my girlfriend I'm currently planing to travel around the world. although, planing is the wrong term as we'd like to make it as spontaneous as possible. another restriction is that we'd like to avoid flying to gain a "slow travel" experience. hence, freighter ships would be one of our preferred means of transport.
my question is now the following: has anybody an idea if there's any chance to catch a freighter without booking it months in advance? as example let's assume that we're in Singapore and want to get to Australia (any port). would there be a chance to catch a ship within, let's say, two or three weeks?
thanks for your answers

I just got back from an Island Windjammers cruise on the Diamant, a 101-foot schooner that takes 12 passengers. It starts in Grenada and goes through the Grenadines. Overall, it was a great cruise, although there are a few things that the line needs to address (it's their inaugeral year).
I have a couple of posts on my blog, along with photos. Happy to answer any questions!
Chris

Currently located in South Africa and will cross the Atlantic to arrive in Salvador, Brazil sometime in March, 2010. I figure on at least three or four months in Brazil and then the Guyanas before arriving in Trinidad, Barbados or Tobago at the east end of the Caribbean. Will be continuing towards the canal.
Looking for crew for any passages. No sailing experience necessary. Ideally, you are or will be traveling in this area already. Share basic expenses (fuel, food, berthing fees).
Boat is a 35 foot sloop and is very basic when it comes to creature comforts but is safe and proven. Skipper is from California and is in the fourth year of an ongoing circumnavigation.

Hi,
My name is Tasha and I am a college student in Claremont, California. I am lucky enough to have access to a $10,000 grant to set up or improve upon basically any good deed anywhere in the world either next summer or the summer after. Because this includes so much, I'm feeling overwhelmed by the possibilities, and I'd love your help! So, if you know of any organizations that need help, any causes that could use a push, or any issues that you think could be addressed with this grant, I'd love to hear your ideas!
Thanks! I'll let you know if I end up working from your suggestion, and maybe you can come help!
From February we will be taking it easy in some awesome islands in the Visayan and Sulu seas, then head down to Borneo and later on Singapore and Eastern Malaysia (Tioman, Redang, Perhentian etc.), cruising around the area until Oct./Nov., then moving on to Western Malaysia and Thailand (Langkawi, Phuket and the many islands in between).
For 2010 we plan to stick around South East Asia and in 2011 do the Indian Ocean (Maldives, Chagos, Madagascar etc.).

I was paid to sail a yacht across the Atlantic
The yacht was not fit
I said "No, I will not be a USCG statistic.", after being flown across. I got my fee.
I'm watching "The Perfect Storm", but it reminds you the sea is a right bastard sometimes

Hi,
I would really like to go to the states again sometime this year, but am bored with the 8-13 hour plane ride. I would therefore love, if someone who loves travelling by boat and has done a trip across the ocean before, would like to take me along on their next trip, and make a stop-off at either coast, but west coast preferably, of the USA.
I have helped sail a long boat once before, and would gladly do my share of the work and learn fast. Not a strong swimmer but know basics, water doesn't scare me, would be more than happy as long as i have a buoyancy jacket on.
Please get in contact by email first at michael.coxon@castlecollege.ac.uk then if things are looking good we could meet for drinks or exchange numbers and discuss.
Just to let you know, this isn't aimed just at people with boats (which i know are few and far between in Nottingham where I am, not being near the ocea...

Ok so the plan is to go around Australia/New Zealand, SE Africa (South Africa to Kenya) and SE Asia using planes as little as possible.
I need some help on one leg though: does anyone know if it is possible to get from New Zealand (or Australia) to South Africa without using a plane? I was thinking over sea but can't find anything helpful?
Thanks for your help.

Right now I'm in Oregon. I realize that I'll likely have to leave Oregon to get on the boat to Greece, but does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this using North America as a starting point?
