Travel on a shoestring

I've noticed that a lot of travel blogs and forums do not mention checking with Priceline to find the best ticket prices. Some even have some confusing disclaimers that Priceline doesn't sell one-way or multi-city tickets.
And yet, I recently purchased a multi-city international flight through Priceline that is cheaper than not only all of the other flight aggregation sites, but it also beats the airline's own website by about $100. I keep checking my itinerary to see if I screwed up the destinations or booked a flight for a date that already passed or something, but it looks solid. My only complaint is that they don't accept Discover.
So what gives?
I was wondering if anyone hitched rides in iceland. How well did it go? I mean in term of waiting at the side of the road, reaching your destination etc.?
I'm really experienced with hitch hiking, but I also know there is places where it's simply impossible (like Cambodia - they all ask for money, which is fair enough, considering the powerty of the locals, but not my idea of hitch hiking).
My names Jade and in this upcoming year I plan on traveling Europe.
My first stop is Madrid Spain for a few days. I have planned a few days in Madrid so far, and after Madrid I am planning to go to Valencia. Im looking for any advice on how to get from Madrid to Valencia, I have looked up the train and the bus but would love to backpack/hike some of the way. I was wondering if anyone has backpacked to Valencia from Madrid or if any one had any advice for me.
would it be more cost effective for me to travel from Jinan, China to Hong Kong or to Thailand for a 2 to 5 day stay?
I need to travel to Hong Kong at end of Jan 2014 and want suggestions of where to stay and what to do for a 2 day budget stay. Considering spending the 2 days on Lantau Island exploring. Thoughts anyone?
Hi, I'm trying to plan out how I'm going to stay in touch w/ people while traveling. The phone plan I have now would be way too much. I've come up w/ 4 options: Skype, Google Voice, something called MagicJack, and T-Mobile (they have like this new plan where they don't charge extra for overseas calls—it'd be like $40 a month). Are there any other cheap ideas I'm missing? And of those 4, which would you recommend? Oh, and I'll be traveling for about a year. Thanks! —Zach Boyer
Hi, I am a 25 year old Hispanic American who has always wanted to travel the world and experience new things, but I don't know anyone who travels or anyone who I can even talk to about this without being looked at as crazy. I plan on saving as close to $20,000 as possible for a no plan round the world backpacking trip and I would love and appreciate if I could have some advice from someone experienced, who has done something along these lines to see if I'm being unrealistic or if I have the wron idea if how to go about things. Any advice/criticism is welcome and appreciated.so I will start of with a little about me:
1.25 year old tattoo artist.
2.Understands some Spanish.
3.Come from very humble beginnings and have dealt with many situations and different people/ environments
4.Very little travel experience.
I do not know if any of these things factor into my pla... more »
European low cost airline Wizzair is offering short notice flights across Europe if you sign up to it's e-newsletter.
It has rules on the bookings, but the deals are good.
If you're signed up to it, you get a very short notice email informing you that if you book in the next 48 hours, there is 20% off every flight to every destination regardless of the date(s) travelled. Well worth looking into.
I am in London. I am planning a trip from London to Los Angeles. From LA to Taipei, Taiwan. From Taipei back to London again. I checked with Taiwan travel agency and they said they are not able to do this ticket for me.
Is there any travel agency or website can do this trip ticket for me?
Or any suggestion for me is appreciated.
Btw, I have Cathay airline membership and Eva airline(star alliance) membership.
Has anyone got any experiences of using an Aether simcard? Just been given details on it via an airport parking booking website as an add-on. It actually looks quite good, but I've never had one so can't comment on its performance and service. Anyone used one?

First a bit of background information, I'm a 20 year old female and live in Canada. I have been wanting to backpack Europe for awhile but I only recently started looking into things and planning things. I have also decided that I want to go on this trip by myself. There are a number of places I wanted to go.
-Spain (planning on going their first)
-France, Only to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. ( don't want to be in France for too long, heard it was super expensive, and not to much interested compared to other countries )
-would like to go to the UK and Ireland, but I feel as if it is completely out of the way.
-Netherlands, so I can go to Amsterdam.
-And travel around other places on the way
Most of the places I want to go seem as if they are super far away from each other and feel like it wouldn't be possible to go visit all of them on this trip.

In UK - apart from high days and holidays - you can generally drive around armed with various town guides, finding accommodation (BB guesthouse style) without loads of pre booking
How feasible is that in the southern states....
we're thinking late Feb 2014/ mid March ...but if that's going to be too cool, we could move the trip out to early May
Thinking fly into Atlanta / cover Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, New Orleans ... a day on a warm beach would be lovely but certainly not essential
Im plodding through hotel chains such as Hampton Inns, Best Western, Holiday Inn .. dependable, soul less.
There are tour companies but they're quoting accommodation styles such as Sheraton and Plantation stays - all very lovely - but impact heavily on the tour price.
all advice .. weather.. things not to miss .. known accommodation loved / or to be avoided .... greatly appreciated. more »
