Asia - Thailand

I'm 39 male, based in NYC. Flexible regarding dates and itinerary.
I want to dive 3-5 days the first 2 weeks of October in Thailand. Where would the best place to go be? Is it too early to dive at Richelieu rock?
Thanks for the advice in advance. I am open to doing a live aboard.
I'm planning on traveling from Singapore to Koh Phangnan via plane and wanted to bounce some ideas off you folks. I see that the most convenient thing to do is to fly to Koh Samui, but flying direct costs an arm and a leg (at the moment €270 one way). I am thus thinking of first flying Singapore to Phuket and then Phuket to Koh Samui.
Singapore to Phuket
A. Fly Tiger Airways, dep: 08:00; arr: 08:55
B. Fly Jet Star, dep: 08:20; arr: 09:10
C. Fly Air Asia, dep: 13:15; arr: 14:00
Phuket to Ko Samui
D. Bangkok Airways, dep: 12:35; arr: 13:30
E. Bangkok Airways, dep: 16:00; arr: 16:55
F. Bangkok Airways, dep: 19:00; arr: 20:00
I am thinking of linking up A or B with D. That leaves about three and a half hours to connect in Phuket. It comes out to about half as much money as flying direct.
So, I have three questions:
1) Does this seem doable... more »
i believe many of you are familiar with this island here. well i've already settled my air tickets from singapore to kuala lumpur, and kuala lumpur to surat thani then to koh samui. but right now i need to figure out a way to get back to singapore by june 17 (I HAVE TO BE BACK AT LEAST BY EVENING - NO OTHER OPTIONS!!)
so..flying from kuala lumpur back to singapore isn't a problem at all since there are many flights available, my problem right now is that what time should i set off koh samui back to surat thani, (there is no flights to kuala lumpur from surat thani on the 17th, therefore my other options are hat yai and krabi, and which way should i get there by? train or minibus? getting a flight from hat yai back to KL shouldn't be a problem, but i need to know the fastest way to get to hat yai from koh samui.
I plan to go back to Thailand end of July /begininning of August. I will be travelling alone (f, 35) but I am not concerned about it as I have already been to Thailand and I know what a friendly country is.
I have some questions for you fellow travellers on other topics:
1 - the weather! I know it is not the best time to visit because of monsoon, but is it a crazy idea? Any danger, or serious issue I should consider? And I mean major events, like floods, airport not working...
2 - Itinerary: I will have about 5-6 days to spend in the Chiang Mai, Rai area before travelling to Laos border...any suggestions of places not to be missed? I am indipendent traveller so not keen on way too touristy places, I am also interested in Buddhist meditation.
3 - Crossing border to Laos: I would like to cross the border via slow boat to get to Luang Prabang via Mekong. Are you... more »
I will be very grateful for some advice!
We have flights to Phuket for 8 days, from 18th of June. First time in SE Asia and Thailand.
What are the best places around to stay in June? We are not after busy nightlife etc
We are keen on some travel between island, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking etc...
but also jungle and some sightseeing if possible.
So maybe Phi Phi for a couple of days as I read some beaches are sheltered there.
But I struggle to find another good place to move after a few days on Phi Phi? (considering it is wet season).
Maybe something around Krabi or even on Phuket itself, and then take a day trips from there?
Or Khao Sok national park?
Are all the tours and boat snorkeling trips available in June?

Hi, please can people let me know of their experiences with the weather if they have been to Thailand around this time?
Hi first time poster looking for some advice. I've done some research so I'm not blindly asking you to plan my trip, just looking for advice. I'm traveling with my partner we are both students (20 and 21) like to party but enjoy extreme sports and beaches as well. We are teaching in cambodia for 4 weeks then flying over and landing in Bangkok on the 28th of July.
So plan A
Bangkok over night
Kanchanburi 3 and a bit days (Erawan national park, Hellfire pass memorial, tiger temple)
Bangkok 4 days ( Mauy Thai boxing, weekend market, sights£
Chaing Mai 1 or 2 days
Pai ( white water rafting etc) 3 days
This is where it gets tricky, i was planning on flying from Chaing Mai to Phuket but would it be safe leaving Pai and getting a flight on the same day. How reliable is transport as I have read mud slides block roads etc.
We then have 17 days to do
Khao Lak national Park

I am heading over to Bangkok at the end of June, then travelling around for the month. I am heading by myself but wanting to find a few people to travel a bit with.
I heard that ski rambuttri is the best area, anyone stayed at any specific hostels that were good?
I know this question has probably been asked 1000's of times, but where do you guys think the best unknown spots in Thailand are?
I am in Chiang Mai at the moment (22nd May) and plan on being here maybe a week, and then poss going to Chiang Rai and Pai, although nothing is set in stone and quite happy to change plans...maybe head to Laos too.
I am looking for anyone to share part of the journey with me. I am 29, not looking to party, but more trek, explore, temples, visit tribes etc.
My email addy is janemckay999 at hotmail.com or reply on here.
Take care xx
Hello. I know there are variations on this theme but all seem to be old on the specific question of when the Casino buses leave Lumphini Park. Ive heard 4:30AM, 5:30, 8AM, etc... Anyone know for sure and from where? Are they actually faster than the buses leaving from Mo Chit? Again, Ive received conflicting reports... Would it make a difference if one lived near Mo Chit vs. Lumphini. Im looking for the fastest way to Siem Reap barring flying (as that is too expensive).
So earlier this year I booked a flight to Thailand for a month with my best friend and two of his friends. Since then we've fallen out, pretty much irreparably and as the other people are his friends i'm in a pretty awkward situation.
Everyone is still communicating on a facebook group about the holiday including the friend i've fallen out with but we haven't spoken, met up or talked since our fall out.
My question is what should I do? Although my friend betrayed me massively and hasn't apologised do i pretend to ignore it and smile for the sake of the holiday?
Or do I go it alone? Going it alone sounds absolutely scary and i'm not sure if i'm brave enough - i've looked at tours but they're massively expensive. I spent three weeks travelling around Europe by myself and whilst I loved it I found it a bit hard to meet people at times which made it very lonely.

Okay I realize an uncrowded National Park during the weekend near Bangkok probably doesn't exist, but does anybody have any recommendations to something that might come close?
We are planning to camp and cook our own food, and we'll probably try to sort out transport of our own (rental car or motorbike).
All advice will be much appreciated,
I went a bit nuts with an online airfare sale, and ended up booking a family holiday for Feb- Mar 2013 to Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand!
Most of these places we have been before, so know where to stay etc, except for Thailand. We fly in to Krabi airport and have 6 nights before we fly out to Vietnam via KL. I'm unsure of where would be the best place to stay with the kids ( 18 mths and 3.5yrs).
We're not really into '5 star' and kids clubs etc, but would like to stay somewhere fairly laid back, picturesque and not too much of a 'party' destination. Also something with plenty to do for the hyperactive dad... snorkelling, kayaking, hiking etc... I'm happy to sit and chill on the beach...
I've been looking at Railay, Ao Nang, Koh Phi Phi... thought 'd throw it open to the forum to see if anyone has any good ideas!
Appreciate any feedback you ha... more »
