Hello! Currently in Thailand until the 5th of July. We had planned to head on from Koh Samui to Koh Phi Phi but have decided not to because of the awful weather. Instead we are going to spend more time travelling up to Chang Mai. Our plan is to get to Surat Thani then head north but we were wondering what places are good to stop at? We like visiting temples, trekking, biking, shopping especially a good market!
We know of Sukothai and renting bikes there, visiting Pai from Chang mai for a couple of days rafting, in Chang Mai visiting the elephant nature park and generally exploring (recommendations welcome!) then we are slowboating to Laos to visit Luang Prabang, onwards to Vientiane (suggestions of what to do there would be very helpful) and finally a train back to Bangkok because thats where we fly home.
Is there other good places we should stop at on the way up to Chang Mai or a... more »
I was just after some advice. My boyfriend and I are getting married in 8 weeks and are thinking about going to Thailand for our honeymoon. I have no idea where is nice to stay as I have seen so many conflicting opinions on here- ideally we would like to do a week in one location and a week in the other, We dont really want to go to Bangkok but stay somewhere less touristy- although I would like to see the Phi Phi islands (apparently they are big tourist traps but maybe on stay for a day or too?) We are working on a budget too.
Can anyone recommend any nice places to stay, things to do and see- we really dont just want a beach holiday :)
Also ive seen mixed reports about the weather. We were thinking of leaving around the 2nd week in August are there any places to avoid??
Any info would be much appreciated thank you :)

I've noticed that opinions on guest houses in Pai and CR are very different. Anybody experienced could suggest a reliable good place to stay in both places?
cheers, many thanks!

How easy is it to get last minute roundtrip flights from Phuket to Samui? We want to stay on the Andaman side because it appears to have better deals but we want to buy a last minute flight to Samui if the weather in Phuket ends up being crap. Is that possible? Or do those flights fill up quick? We would be flying away from the Samui on August 2nd so the full moon party should not create an issue.
I am travelling thailand and am currently on koh samui and the weather here isn't great. My plan was originally to come to samui for the full moon then head west to phi phi because I've read it is incredibly beautiful ! The forecast for krabi and phi phi is predicted storms for the next weeks. As I am on a budget I was wondering if it was worth the money to travel across to phi phi from samui if the weather is really bad ? The reason being I was hoping to lounge on the beach, snorkel and go fishing with the locals. These things wouldn't be possible in the bad weather so I was wondering if anyone is there an knows the weather or if anyone knows of activities to do if it is awful weather. Koh samui has been expensive because of all the indoor activities Ive paid for ! I will head up north to chang Mai and Laos for longer than planned if people don't think it's worth the trip to phi phi.... more »
1) From the Thai embassy website(Delhi)
Last time we got the application form at the airport. I presume this is still the case, or do we have to print our own? And what does a photo of "2.25 inches" mean? There's no dimensions given?
Also a VFS agent here told us that we have to carry proof of sufficient funds in cash (10K Baht per person). We didn't have to do this last time; common sense tells me credit cards and bank account papers will do. Any difference?
Thanks for any help!
I'm planning a trip with my husband to Thailand end of January 2013.
We thought it would
be great to bike from Bangkok down to the southern islands.
Has anyone done this? Which islands are best to visit by bicycle?
We'd like to avoid really touristy areas. I was told Phuket was one of them.
Any suggestions on routes?
Thanks for any help!
We have a flight out of Samui at 9:45 am on a Sunday and are planning to spend the night before at Bottle Beach, Koh Pha Ngan. What time would we need to leave our bungalow in order to reach the Samui airport by, say, 8 am? What's the best/fastest way to get from Bottle Beach to Samui? Will we have enough time and is transportation running regularly that early on a Sunday morning, or should we suck it up and head to Samui the night before?
We'd be grateful for any advice!
Myself and my partner are going to the full moon party in July and have left our travel arrangements to the last minute! Because flights are pretty much fully booked to go from Koh Samui to Phuket (we fly out of Phuket) we need to find an alternative route. I know it's possible to get a ferry to Surat Thani and then a bus to Phuket but would really appreciate any info on how long this all takes? And what the best option is? We need the quickest way possible as time will not be on our side!
Also can I get a direct ferry from koh phangan to Surat Thani (or somewhere on the mainland) and then a bus/taxi/private car to Phuket? Just to cut out multiple ferries etc.
I just want to know what all the options/costs/durations are before we go so we know what to budget for both money wise and time wise..
Thanks for your help in advance :)
I lost my atm card and need a new one sent before I move to Africa in late June.
I've done extensive online research and can't really find a definitive answer about post restante in BKK, or an address for Banglamphu post office. I'm hoping someone with reliable, up to date, information can help?
I'm currently travelling in Laos and Cambodia, and betting that Bangkok is by far my best bet. I have a bit over 2 weeks before we fly out and am hoping the bank with fedex the card.
Is post restante a realiable option? If so, is there a good post office near Khao San I can have it sent to? What is the address? (I have addy from 2007 but couldn't confirm it).
Any other options/advice? I've been trying to figure this out for almost a week, so want to call bank tmw with a definitive address for them to send to.
Please reply! Much thanks! more »
Any heads in Thailand? Whats the weather like on the West Coast: Krabi side? Was thinking of some diving and general farting about but can do it on the Gulf side if weather OK that side
Im off again to Phuket just wanted to know if any thorn tree people are residing there?
Another question where is a nice place to go for some 80s music dancing place with a view either in a very tall building or with a view of the Ocean.
Im not reffering to all the tiger and safari discos in Patong or meeting any hookers.
I reside at Layan and move everywhere on a motorbike.
Do any of the Phuket town places have a dance place in a tall building??
