Hi I'm going to solo to the BVI beginning of May, would like to know of any cheap, rustic places to stay???
Also if any other solo travellers are there, it would be great to meet up.
Hi everyone I was wondering if maybe someone elses travel experiences could help me out with a good idea for a vacation. Im 27 and am taking a vacation early May for 10 days and not sure about where to go. Last year I did Havana, Cuba with a friend but this year Im going solo. I had planned to go to thailand as it has been recomended to me by friends and everyone that goes there has nothing but good things to say but when I looked at booking a flight its about 20hrs each way to get there as there are no direct flights (Im from Victoria, Canada) and for only 10 days the travel time seems excesive. Everyone seems to have a good time in Mexico when going with friends but it doesnt sound like it would be much fun going by myself. Im thinking maybe Dominican Republic as it seems like it might be a little less of a cookie cutter vacation compared to Mexico. Budget isnt really an issue as I ... more »
I was wondering if anyone had tips on budget arrival to st. lucia. I have a friend that lives there but just flies directly between US and Puerto Rico to get in. I'd sort of like to make this a stop on my travels... I could try to get in from trinidad maybe.. I'll be tooling around panama colombia and venezuela.
Hi - On Tuesday April 10 I have a tour scheduled with Sun Venture Tours out of Kingston - to go birding in the Blue Mountains and then take a coffee plantation tour. They set it up for me, and I asked them to open it up to others. It costs $100 for me alone, but $70 if more people go. I don't see it posted on their website but here is the information:
The birding Tours are early mornings 6:30 am - 10:00 am, we could do the coffee tour (no extra charge) after and lunch at 12:00 PM and then head back to Kingston. Return to Kingston by 2:00 PM. The birding sessions are US$100.00 (one person) or US$70.00/person.

Two guidebooks suggested this company, and I don't know what to really expect or where exactly we'll go. But I've never been to Jamaica before so look forward to anything!
A friend an I are looking to spend a week or so in PR. I have read up a bit and would like to check out Vieques in addition to PR main. I would love any suggestions you can give with regards to accomodations activities etc. We are 2 straight guys in our 30s into the outdoors Snorkeling, diving, mountain biking, hiking etc who also like to stay out late in relaxing friendly pubs and meet new people(not into dance clubs etc but live music is great) As I understand Vieques is quiet and relaxing and seems to be the ticket but the lack of nightlife makes me think we would be better off doing a few relaxing days there and then a few days on the main island. Am I correct in this thought? If so where would you suggest I stay on PR Main to get beach, sports and nightlife(not casinos or the like preferably) I am not concerned about a terribly upscale lodging, clean, comfort... more »
Can anyone tell me if one needs a passport to get into the Cayman islands?
we are travelling to PR for a week in late august. there will be 11-15 of us. we would like to rent a large house. we would prefer that the house have air conditioning, internet, and be close to some form of transportation. suggestions?
have an airline ticket to burn and am in desperate need of a do nothing vacation...puerto rico would be a quick flight...can you suggest a beach town that is laid back but also safe?...a place where i can lie on the beach and read the week away?....not looking for crowds or night scene this time around...recuperative...thanks in advance...
Does anybody know if there is any flights from Dominican Republic to Martinque or to Guadeloupe international or local 3 seaters!!!!!
Any suggestions.....would love to hear...
HELP! So I'm headed to PR from Sat (4/7) - Sun (4/15). I'm having difficulty planning the trip and am looking for some suggestions. Here's the breakdown of my trip:
Sat-Mon (4/7-4/9) San Juan then moving to Rio Grande
Mon - Thurs (4/9-4/12) Rio Grande, then moving to ???
Fri - Sun (4/12-4/15) ???, then fly back to the mainland
Unfortunately, we must go to Rio Grande for a conference so I'm a little torn about where to go for the next 2 nights in PR. I figure we'll visit all the sights by Rio Grande like El Yunque, so I was thinking about going to Culebra or Ponce. I just want to see soemthing different from where I'll be staying. I've read great things about Culebra but have heard it may be too much trouble for a 2 night trip - especially if we're flying back on Sunday afternoon. I've also heard mixed reviews about Ponce, but thought it might be interesting to driv... more »
my future wife and i are searching for a laid back guest house / hostel type locale we can rent out to hold our post-wedding 'friends' celebration. we were looking for a place that can accommodate 20, 30+ people, is laid back, affordable and is close to decent surf. this is a lot to ask, but i have a feeling PR is just the place to find it.
I'm planning a vacation in Barbados for the second week in May. I've faithfully read all the topics in this category and notice that everyone recommends renting a car.
However, as a USAer, I'm wondering if I'd feel comfortable with left-hand driving. It also seems rather expensive to do a rental; would, say, hiring a car for 2 days be significantly more expensive?
I'm staying on the southeast coast. We plan day trips to Bridgetown; the west coast; the Harrison Caves; and maybe other spots, but mostly relaxing in place.
I will be in Miami this summer, and am thinking that taking a cruise could potentially be a good way to see a little bit more of the Caribbean at a low price and a short time. My normal travel style is backpacking and budget/independent travel, and the focus of such a cruise would be trying to make as much as possible out of the time on each island. I don't really care much about the experience on the ship. (Does this sound right?)
I found some cruises that stop at a new island each morning, which sounds interesting, but I am wondering one thing... If the itinerary says that the ship arrives at some island at 8am and departs at 5pm, how much effective time does that leave me on the island? I mean, are there usually delays in getting off the boat and going through immigration? And how long before departure do I have to be back? I am thinking about either Carnival or Royal Caribb... more »
