i have another question. could somebody please give me some indicators on the price level in guadeloupe? like how much for a low budget accomodation, how much for a beer, a meal, a taxi drive, etc...
We were just checking flights and we found a very cheap one to Tobago. Since we are on a low budget, we'd like to know if anyone of you has an idea about the price range of low budget hostels, appartments, etc...
Thanks a lot!

Hi all! I posted questions months earlier and went on my trip in May 2013. Decided to stay in Negril and absolutely loved it! Really beats the hustle and bustle of Mobay. Negril is calm, relaxing, and so laid back. I steered clear of the "all inclusives" and stayed at Traveller's Beach Resort which was a pretty decent stay for the price. The décor was a little outdated and the bed could have been a little softer but that didn't faze me at all. There was a restaurant and bar on the grounds, the food was alright, but preferred going out of the resort to find my meals. I'm hooked on curry goat and rice and peas! Who knew it was soooo good! Had it twice while I was there. And that darn Juicy patty place, couldn't keep me out! Oh how I wish I could bite into a chicken patty in between that coco bread! Sigh
Some claim that Jamaica can be dangerous for someone travelling alone. I ne... more »
We are going to Haiti for a few days, then are going to the Dominican also. This is what I'm wondering. If we take the bus from PaPrince, and take it across the border, where can we get off? My friends live in San Juan, so what would be the closest stop to them? Thank you so much, I am so confused...
I like to hike a lot and I love to get from point A to point B instead of walking for the sake of it!
I'll stay at the Mount Edge Guest House, just up north Kingston and it's on the verge of the Blue Mountains National Park. I find it really hard to find anything about the park such as maps of the trails, elevation etc.
I don't really care about climbing the peak, but i'd love to walk through the forest to get to the North Coast. I intend to get to Port Antonio, but after the hiking I might stop in another town before (such as Buff Bay or Hope Bay) and get to Port Antonio on the next day.
So is anyone familiar with the Blue Mountains National Park, as any advice about it, knows the lenght it might take to get through it etc.??
Thanks a lot in advance!
My husband and I are researching Jamaica for a trip. We'd have about 10 days end of August - early September. We are not all-inclusive type folks, and I'm past the party all night scene (though my husband might think he still has it in him!). We're in our 40s, have traveled extensively in the past - though not for a while - so we like to experience a local vibe. And we don't want to bite off more than we can chew distance and time wise.
So, our current thoughts are fly into Montego Bay and head to Negril for a few nights and then head down to the Treasure Beach area. A few questions if anyone has advice.
Does this itinerary sound doable and relaxing for 10 days?
Any recommendations on traveling from Negril to Treasure Beach? Has anyone used a car hire or shuttle to do this?
Any recommendations on areas to stay and visit within Negril?
Any recommendations on day trips?... more »
hi anyone stay at any 'all inclusive' places in Jamaica, am interested mostly in Negril, port Antonio, long bay (east coast)
not too expensive of course :-)
Also any recommendations for accommodation in Negril or Long Bay, something very close to the beach, not too expensive, hut or something small but not too shitty :-)
Hi any ideas how to get from Negril to Port Antonio, I guess its too short distance to fly, bus takes how long? and how much roughly, thanks a lot.
Hi is there any cheap flights from Jamaica from Cuba anyone know???? Or any other way to get from Jamaica to Cuba in December. What airlines fly there?
Hi my wife and l are going to jamaica start of December for 10 days, any must see places? We would like to:
- relax and see some special parts of Jamaica
- reggae band on the beach or something like that as well would be great, any special cities where the reggae is played near beach or on the beach?
- bodyboarding would be nice too
Thanks for any ideas Dave
If I had the time and wanted to show someone my favorite little things on the island here is what I'd do....
Arrive into Mobay. Drive into the mountains the "Ferris Cross" route. FIrst stop, "Border" for some JERK CHICKEN.
Next, about a mile up the road just after big carving shop on the left is "midway bar" (Claudette's) for a Red Strip, Guiness, and local JA bar vibes and cool artwork on the wall to boot.
Heading further down the road after the gorgeous panoramic view of the canefields a few miles after the big hill in "waterworks" we make a one mile detour off the main with a rough uphill to the left (at the cooking gas sign) for ABUTEKA nature park. Here we swim in the oldest swimming pool in Jamaica, formed with cut stone and spring fed.
Must be about sunset by now, so we are sure to get killer sunset shots from up on the hill. After that swim time to hit the roa... more »
Im planning on camping around Puerto Rico for a week in September. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can buy fuel canisters for my backpacking stove once I get there? I need the (typically) 8 oz. isobutane/propane blend canisters. In Canada they're normally available at MEC, sometimes at Canadian Tire.. but i don't think they're available at places like Walmart/Kmart so I'm a little concerned.
I'm going to spend a few days in Dominica next month, and I'm interested in doing some hiking, especially in the Morne Trois Pitons national park, to Boiling Lake etc. I'm wondering whether it's better to base myself in Roseau, and travel up and back every day - or will that eat up a lot of the day, and maybe it would be better to stay somewhere nearer? If so, any recommendations for where to stay? To complicate matters, having read the Lonely Planet description of driving in Dominica, I don't think I have the courage to do it, so I'll be dependent on taxis or hiking guides to bring me to where the hikes start.
Thanks for any advice you can give!
Would you have any inf's about renting a sailing boat or catamaran... for 10 or 12pax in Barbados for 10 or 12days sailing around other caribbean islands.
Best regards from Slovenia, Robin
Im looking to visit Cuba in a few months and am trying to figure out the best route for this (US citizen without a license)- a friend has gone via Canada however Id rather make the trip from Jamaica, or possibly Mexico which I know is used often.
Im a bit stuck on how to actually get the flights. Do we purchase at the airport once we arrive or via a travel agent? I know we can view the flights on European or Caribbean sites, however Im not sure if we can put that charge on my card?
Also, as far as accommodations- a friend recommended staying in an apartment with a family but Im again not sure how to go about that, he went years ago and no longer has the contacts.
Also, any travel agent recommendations would be greatly appreciated! We're not looking to do a "tour" type of trip but some help planning would be great!!
