Are there ATM,s in cabarete I can use or should I bring US
cash or travellers cheques for my stay in cabarete?
Thx. in advance!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a private driver in the Ocho Rios area? Or better to get around in a rental car/scooter?
Thanks in advance.
My friend and I (both young, white, and female) are traveling to Jamaica next week and need some advice regarding best transportation methods. We're getting into Kingston Manley Airport at about 11am and are hoping to get to Treasure Beach on the same day, preferably by public transportation. We've both traveled pretty widely, and are used to taking the budget route, rather than the most comfortable one, but we also want to be mindful of safety in a new country.
I've read through past posts, and it seems like this route is doable on mostly or all public transportation. Can people please advise about the best way to go about doing this? Most of what I've seen on this forum has advised flying into Montego Bay, but our tickets are already bought for Kingston, or just hiring a private car, which is way out of our budget.
Thanks so much!
Hi - I arrive Bridgetown next Friday to stay in Barbados for a week and I am only looking for a simple, inexpensive room for a short stay while I get my bearings before travelling to the north of your island. I am flying in with Redjet from Georgetown, Guyana where I am on a 2 year voluntary placement with VSO-Guyana working with Amerindian communities in the far south of the country. I am English/from the UK. Thanks. Melvyn Jones
I'm attending a Labor Day wedding at an outrageously expensive AI in Punta Cana. We (a couple) are arriving a week early to go explore on our own. We don't plan to rent a car and since we will spend so much at the wedding ($500 a night for 2!), we would like to spend $200/day or hopefully much less in the prior week.
Options I'm looking at:
Fly to Santo Domingo - spent a few nights there, go to Bayahibe, go to PC, and fly out of PC
Fly to Santo Domingo, few nights, go to Samana Peninsula, to PC
Fly in and out of PC, and find a place to visit that is closer
We only will have a week so I don't know if the peninsula is worth it, since travel on to PC will be around 6-8 hrs. Also don't know if Santo Domingo deserves a special trip - the flights are a little more $$ for a multi-leg trip. If SD is similar to Cartagena (Colombia), Antigua (Guatemala), or Granada (Nicaragua), then ... more »
Planning a trip to Bermuda in a few months.
Can tell right away that ground transportation is quite the scam on this island. Too small. Keeping "car population down." yeah. sure.
So with no hotel shuttles, what alternatives to taxis do we have in getting to hotel from airport on initial arrival?
Will mini-bus pick us up by prior arrangement? 2 people. 2 bags. Going to south shore, around Elbow Beach
The scooters sound fun after arrival tho.
Hi, myself and 2 friends are heading to St Lucia soon. We are arriving at Hewanorra airport and need to get up to Rodney Bay. We've heard that the taxi costs $85. Are there buses that do the same route? Also, what are the buses like on the rest of the island? We'd like to get out and explore.

I'm going to Jamaica for a week with work, and will have a weekend in the middle to have some fun. What would you recommend? I'll be based in Kingston so it should be within reasonably easy reach of there, so I'm not spending the whole time travelling. Priority is nature, whether it's beaches, lakes, forest, you name it. Medium budget. Any tips much appreciated!
I posted this a couple of months ago, unsuccesfully, let's try again:
According to the Montserrat Tourism Board, the ferry to/from Antigua operates Wednesday to Saturday, and on Saturday "Ferry Goes to St. Kitts/Nevis for Servicing". Does anyone know if passengers are allowed to St Kitts?
Greetings! My husband and I just returned from our first trip to the amazing island of St. John. I loved it so much that I started my own travel blog to share our experience and photos with my family and friends and with everyone who appreciates the beauty of St. John. Please take a moment to read my trip report and view some pictures. Already planning a return trip

I am traveling to DR 3/23-4/1/12. Does anyone know any good hostel in Santa Domingo and other cities? What do you recommend to do and visit in one week? Is anyone familiar with "all inclusive" tours?
In the beginning of March, I stay for 4 nights in a resort in Montego Bay area. Any suggestions on places to hike: mountains, along the coast, or other exciting things to do in the area. What is the best way to arrange this? Thanks
We are two guys 22 years old who are planning to take a trip on our way home from U.S to Europe in the end of may 2012. We were thinking of going first to mexico, cancun /playa del carmen. From Mexico we are going to end up in Miami,FL. We would like to see caribbean. But we don't know much about caribbean and good places to go..So far we have just considered Jamaica and mabye bahamas. We are thinking about traveling for 10 days+/-.
Based on our ages, surfing and diving/snorkling opportunities, are there any places you would specially reccomend?
Of course, the budget also an important factor.
By plane? Boat/ferry?
Thank you so much for good advices!
In December 2010 my family and I rented a villa in Punta Cana.
We met a Dominican family who we became very attached to during our 10 day stay.
He (Jose) worked as a security guard in the complex where we stayed. He is a husband, father of a 6 yr old and most recently (while we were there) his wife gave birth to another little girl.
We would like to send a suitcase with different items (such as clothing, toys, books, baby supplies) to help this wonderful, deserving family.
We have looked into UPS/Fedex options but it is proving to be an extremely expensive way of sending these gifts.
I am hoping to send a suitcase with another traveller who is heading to the DR.
I plan to pay the $50 (or whatever the cost may be) to send this extra piece of luggage on the plane.
I am located in Toronto, Ontario.
Feel free to look inside the suitcase when we meet so you can see what we... more »
I was fortunate to go back to Barbados last month so I managed to shoot 9 more beaches.
The map is there to help you and decide where to go - but there's lots of other sites to choose from. I've added Brownes, Brandons, Brighton, Crystal Cove, Pal Bay, Drill Hall, Maxwell, Sandy Beach and myself ;)
Hope this helps,
