I am located in NJ, and looking for the best way or carrier to fly from Newark, NYC, or Philadelphia airports to St. Lucia. I completed a number of searches for various carriers, airports, non-stop, 1-stop flights, etc. None of which have provided me exactly what I need without various lay overs or horrible travel times. We would be traveling to St. Lucia from Oct. 12 to Oct. 22. Any help or information or Lonely Planet members experiences are appreciated. Thanks so much.

Traveling to St. Lucia on a budget may seem impossible, but it's not if you choose the right place. Doing a random google search I came across John Dorman's site advertising De Residence Guest house. His prices are less than half of what you'd pay even at the neighboring accommodations. Not only is it cheap, but it's also extremely nice-- 2 bedrooms, bathroom with separate shower and bath, full kitchen, and patio, and it's extremely clean! Best of all, John and his wife Sophia are super friendly and helpful and are among the few people on this island that truly understand what service is all about. De residence is just a 5 minutes walk from the Diamond Falls Botanical Garden, a couple minutes from the city center, and only 5 minutes to the beach. You won't find a better deal in all of St. Lucia I am sure! After spending 2 weeks in Soufriere with my boyfriend, I am pleased to find tha... more »

Hi folks: My wife and I are going to spend 3 weeks island-hopping in the West Indies this month. (We'll also going to sail charter in BVI for a week.) This is our first time to the West Indies. We've focused in on Dominica, St.Lucia, Grenada and Tobago because we like quieter more natural places (rather than the resort scene) where we can hike, snorkle, sail and photograph nature. (We in late 50's early 60's, active, and experienced travellers.) We're trying to figure how to prioritize and allocate our time between these islands and also wondering whether we may be trying to cover too many places for the time we have available. I'd appreciate help on which of these islands you suggest we should put more time into (and possibly how long) . Thanks so much!

My guesthouse tells me there is no pubic transportation on Sundays in St Lucia, so advises that we take a taxi costing $50US to get from the airport to Soufriere. If mini-buses are available, we would prefer to take the less expense option. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to find a bus around 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon in January? How much should it cost for a mini-bus on that route? Since we will have a couple of bags, maybe a taxi makes more sense?

My wife and I will be in St.Lucia from 12/19-12/28, have a 3 bedroom villa on north end of island and was wondering if there were another couple(s) who were still looking for accommodation. Price is $80/night, nice place, lap pool, great views, private, etc. We are in our late 30's, laid back, not all inclusive types- at all. Just to make it clear, we are not swingers, drug addicts, etc, I'm asuming people on here for the most part aren't either so....if this is you and you don't want to spend a lot on mediocre and expensive abodes, are fun and respectful at the same time, reply back and we'll go from there. Thanks.

Hello all, My girlfriend and I are seeking advice about upcoming trip to St. Lucia. Originally we had planned to spend a few days in Soufriere and a couple of days in Marigot Bay. However, hotels are giving us better deals for a 7 night stay, so we are stuck between choosing between the two. LP recommends Soufriere as base, more to do, but we kind of like the hotel better in Marigot Bay (mainly because it has kitchen - and figure we'll save money on food). We are both relatively young - mid 30's. We are not into major partying but would we be bored out of our minds after a couple of days in Marigot Bay? Seems like an older crowd. Is the beach okay there? Could we stay there and rent a car for a few days and see everything we need to see in Soufriere?

Hey all,
My fiancee and I are interested in staying at The Landings on Saint Lucia for our honeymoon this Spring. It is a wonderful hotel with so many amenities, but I was hoping that someone or many have stayed there in the past and can share their opinions with me. Is it worth the price? Is there plenty to do?
Also, if not The Landings, has anyone stayed at a memorable hotel on Saint Lucia?
Thanks...

Hey,
My parents are planning to go to St Lucia for 2 and half weeks in January. Is this too long?
They are both turning 60 but are still quick active. They are looking for something relaxing but I know that my father will get bored very easy. Is there much for him to do? 2 and half weeks is a lot of time if there is not much to do! Is there any islands apart from St. Lucia that he could explore?

Hello TT's!
We will be on the island for one day as part of a cruise that we were given!
We dock in Castries but for our day we want to snorkel from Anse Chastanet (marine park) and visit Soufrieres. Obviously time is a constraint and the ship does offer 'tours' but they're not offering snorkelling here. Usually as backpackers we have no issue independently getting ourselves around but can anyone offer advice/suggestion as to what we want?
How much would taxi's cost for these 2 places? Is the bus reliable? - we would hate to miss the ship! Does anyone know of a tour company that includes these two? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks much in advance :)

Can anyone advise where I might be able to get one of these - and quickly!
There are out of stock on Amazon so I placed an order with Waterstones who sent an email back saying they are out of stock?!? At least Amazon had the courtesy of keeping a good stock list on their website and didn't allow me to order via them!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
