Krupnik

I know of two meanings for this word. A honey liqueur, krupnikas in Lithuanian and krupnik in neighboring Slavic languages, and a barley soup. And it occurs as a family name.

Which makes me wonder: what does it mean? Or rather, since I have an idea what -nik means, what does krup mean? Tasty?

Does anybody recognize this (traditional) Chinese character? 有没有人看得懂这个汉字?

Hi!

Does anybody recognize this (traditional) Chinese character? It should be a name of a city or village or area in Hebei province, China. At least from 1896 to 1959.
This is an inscription on a gravestone, it says:

河北省 通 x 人民

Thank you!

Developing a Spanish ear

Hey guys,

I've been teaching myself Spanish as a side thing because I find it a beautiful language that's somewhat easy to learn (and school is a such a drag so I'm glad I found something useful to occupy myself with). I've read many tips and advice from online blogs and I can't seem to find decent podcasts that can help me develop an ear for Spanish.
Would anybody like to recommend some?

Thank you!

Natasha

L'heure Français?

Hi!

We are starting a french hour where I work, for casual conversation practice. What would you call it? We thought "L'heure Français", but wanted to make sure it didn't have a weird meaning or connotation. Thanks!!

complaint

I have just bough the second album 'Howlin'' by Brisbane band SLUG GUTS.

There is some additional information about the record on the inner sleeve, such as when and where the album was recorded.

Then it also mentions:

xx playS this and that instrument on yy
xx playS this and that instrument on yy
and the list goes on like that

and then it says
xx playED this and that instrument on yy

I think they should have double checked the tenses for consistency.

Many thanks.

Help bitte!

Hallo,

I'm an avid reader and a big lurker fan, but never really post.

I would really appreciate your help if you can spare a few minutes.

I really want this job, which is mainly about the English language, but my cover letter still has to be written in German, since the company's headquarters are in a German-speaking country.
So could you please comment below, it's only about 10 sentences. And how is my German, what do you think on a scale from 1 to 10? Please be honest, but not brutal:-)

Thank you so much/Vielen Dank!

Here:
Sehr geehrte Frau Mag. XXX,

Which would you use in the following sentence? Are both acceptable to you?
