UK/GB Blue Badge Outside The EU.

I'm travelling next week from Northern Scotland by road to Eastern Turkey. I have a UK/GB Blue Badge

http://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/images/BlueBadgeFront_rdax_300x214.jpg

and wondered if anyone has experience of using such a badge outside The EU. Within The EU it is an acceptable document as well as in non EU European territories, Switzerland, Iceland etc.. It is just Turkey I'm asking about, as that will be the only non EU country we'll be driving in. Thank you.

Could anyone help my 88 y/o daddy from Sri Lanka to Europe?

Who can help my old daddy from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Europe (England, Denmark, Sweden or Norway)
My daddy is 88 years old and have a heart condition and he is afraid to travel alone when he shall visit me in Denmark, so if there’s anyone who could help him with practical things from the airport in Colombo to an Airport in Europe, maybe Denmark, England, Sweden or Norway, then I could pick him up in one of these airports. He does not need any nursing like that, only that he knows that he is not alone and there is one he can attend if he gets afraid or need any support.
It will be a major help. He is a British Citizen and speaks English.

Kind regards,

Kenneth Nielsen, Denmark

Advice on European travel with a leg injury /walking stick

Hi!

I'm planning a trip to Europe (thinking France and Switzerland, but also open to suggestions!) - my first trip since seriously injuring my leg a year ago. Without getting into details, one ankle might as well be fused and is quite weak, and I also have some minor issues with my knee and hip. I can walk but tire quickly, limp, and sometimes use a walking stick (I cannot run or jump). I have difficulty with stairs and usually avoid them, and am also not a fan of uneven ground or steep slopes. Even at home I often have to give myself a "day off" to recover from pain if I overdo it. Currently I can walk/limp for up to about 4 hours a day - not all at once - and need to elevate my leg for most of the rest of the day, which can be awkward. I don't like walking in crowds or at night time, though I can do it if necessary.

My usual style of travel is very active (backpacking, hiking... more »

Rental Car hand controls

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon, trying to pick between countries in Eastern Europe. I require hand controls (gas/brake lever, plus spinner knob) to drive. How reliable are car agencies at having cars with controls installed at arrival? We've seen spotty service in the US and Canada. If our car doesn't have controls installed, then she must drive the entire trip -- probably not a happy honeymoon!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Good Travelling website for booking hotels

I have recently booked all my hotel travel via Combined Hotels Website. I don't have to bother with going to individual booking sites and spend hours pouring over price comparisons. This one stop website is amazing. The parameters you can use for facilities etc is also quite elaborate.

So far I've booked 3 trips utilising hotels combined, completed 2 of them to date, with no hassle at all. Fantastic! The only minor issue is sometimes the price display can be pre-taxes, but as long as you keep your eyes open and you are aware no problem.

Visual impairment in India

Hi,

I will be traveling to India next month. I have low vision and use a cane. My main worry is the traffic.... Any advice?

Also, how do I go about food? I have heard many things. What things should I avoid? Is food at train stations safe? Is tea sold at street stalls if its piping hot?

Central America with Diabetes - Buying Insulin and General Advice

Hi

This is my first post on the forum, and was hoping people could help me out. I am a Type I diabetic and am travelling through Mexico and Central America for two months (January and February, 2013).

I was wondering whether it is possible to buy insulin over the counter / at a pharmacy in Central America, and if so, whether it is prohibitively expensive (or not). I am on Novorapid and Lantus, so it would be best if I could buy these (but realise that these specific types may not be available).

I am planning to travel with Frio cooling cases, but given my trip is over 28 days (i.e. the "shelf-life" of unrefrigerated insulin) and there is the risk of losing insulin etc, I am really keen to know whether I will/would be able to buy it in Central America during the trip if needed.

Thank you very much for your help - I really appreciate it. Any other tips for travelling the r... more »

RV Traveling with a Wheelchair

I have always wanted to have an RV to travel North America in. Karen is a veteran in this subject as she has her own converted RV for wheelchair travel. It has a lift and is spacious inside with everything she needs to be healthy and comfortable.

Traveling in a RV if you use a wheelchair makes good sense for many reason. Karen has been all over the U.S. and Canada in her recreational vehicle.

Travel in Japan with a Wheelchair - Multiple Resources

I learned so much from my recent adventure to Japan in my manual wheelchair. I started out with a friend who knew the language and land but ended up exploring this wonderful foreign land on all my own. Here are some great articles about my trip and what I learned how wheelchair users can get around.

nonverbal TEFL

Due to a slight lisp and disability I feel it would be wrong for me to do paid English teaching in the 'normal' sense.
I can write at degree level and am told I do that well. Are there alternatves I can do instead? I'm thinking of things like proof-reading students work and/or explaining things in Spanish (I'm semi-fluent). Perhaps basic translation.
Any suggestions please.
