Hi
We are planning a 3 week trip to Malaysia , not including Borneo, after arriving in Singapore from 5 weeks in NZ.
We have 3 young kids (5, 2 and 4 months) and would love some recommendations as I'm struggling to find time to do much planning.
We like rural areas, beaches, countryside, meeting local people, different food, prefer to travel by train, sleeper trains are a bonus (kids love them), less-visited places.....
KL and Perhentian islands are on the list so far - accomodation recomendations would be appreciated - minimal budget, but safe and clean places needed. Basic beach hut-style would be fab on the islands.
Sorry for the vague request and thanks for any suggestions and your favourite places.

Hello,
We will be travelling to Thailand with our 10-month-old baby. I was wondering if baby food (in jars, I don't know what it's called in English) is available in Thailand and not only in tourist places? Or should we bring all our food with us from home?
I would be very grateful for any information.

We (couple + 20-month-old) are going to the Philippines for a week in January. Flying in to Cebu and are planning to go to Panglao and Alona beah. Does anyone have a recommendation where to stay (clean, friendly, safe, good location)? As this is part of a longer trip, we plan to stay in one place and make daytrips from there.
Thanks for any feedback!

We're looking at doing our first extended backpacking trip with our two kids aged 3 & 1. We'll be flying from Australia to Hawaii and then on to Western Canada for about 2 months. As we're in the early stages of planning, the first thing I have thought of is how to make this trip as simple as possible with two young kids flying such a distance. One of the things we've been looking at is what is the best way to get around with the kids: backpack carriers or strollers-luggage on wheels or backpack if we're carrying the kids. Are travel cots a good idea? I like the idea of the baby bjorn travel light cot but at roughly $300 a pop I want to make sure it would be worth the buy.
So, the question is, what product(s)/travel items were a total MUST have on your backpacking trip with toddlers?
Look forward to hearing all yoru suggestions.
Kind regards, Oceonpearl

We're looking at backpacking trip through the states and canada with our two kids. We have a Phil & Teds backpack that we use for our 3 year old but are now looking for a carrier for our 1 year old who will be 18 months old at the time of trip. We've used hug a bub/baby bjorn until recently. I don't want anything too bulky so am thinking along the lines of an ergo baby. Any suggestions?
Kind regards, Marketa

Hi everyone,
(I have posted previously on the Indonesia forum as I did not even know they had this one here!!!!)
We are off on Friday for a two week trip in Bali with our two kids aged 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. We will stay from december 19th until January 2nd and would love to arrange for them to play with other kids their age. Anyone around?
We will start in Ubud, then Gili Air and Amuk Bay (near Candidasa)
Any tips are welcome!
Cheers,
Carolina

Hi everyone and other family travellers,
We are a small German family and will go to Phuket and Southern Thailand beginning of January for three weeks with our little daughter (5 years, German speaking). We will land in Phuket and then see how we keep on backpacking. Backpacking in the sense of light backpacking (not moving so much), but still free and flexible, therefore our itinerary is not yet set. We have done the same last year with friends.
If anyone else is in the area and also looking for a social contact / playmate for the kid(s), we would be happy to get in touch either here or by email.
Best regards
cheers

I would like to take advantage of my maternity leave to travel for about 4-6 weeks before returning to work. I know it may be very difficult with a newborn, but we will travel slowly and not at the pace we are accustomed to. My husband are seasoned travelers, and have already stepped foot in 50+ countries. This is the only opportunity that I can get this much time off, especially working in the corporate rat race in New York City.
Originally, as my first choice, I thought about Thailand and Cambodia, but May and June 2010 may not be the ideal time due to monsoon season in the southern islands and beaches. As long as ferries are operational, and the storms are short, we would still consider it.
Ideally I'd like to limit my flights to about 7 hour segments maximum, with stopovers along the way, if possible.
Other options that I am considering are as follows:
1) F...

dear fellow travellers
thank you for your advice in the past, when we were not sure, where to go. now, decision is made and a surprise, even for us. we ll go to South Africa, the flight is booked. we have good 4 weeks to spend there before/after Easter 2010.
who of you took their kids there and how was your trip?
can you recommend a child friendly place to stay outside of Captown?
is it easy to get in contact with locals, when travelling with a kid (she is 5 1/2 )?
any special safety advice?
thank you very much!

Hello,
We are a family of 4 (kids 3 and 5) and planning a super-budget 8 week trip to Bali this winter (Feb and Mar). We can afford about $60 a day all inclusive. We are good at roughing it, sharing space, and intend to save money by cooking ourselves when possible. Interested in staying in one place (a house?) for 4-6 of the weeks with day trips. Would like to avoid touristy areas. Love to help/volunteer and get to know local culture and people. Our kids are very relaxed and great travelers.
We are open to any feedback or advice anyone might have... Thanks in advance.

We will be travelling to visit the in-laws in Bangladesh at the end of January and early February and would like to cap it off with a week in a relaxing destination. We were thinking a beach resort area in Thailand or Langkawi (Malaysia) - we don't know much about either. We will be travelling with our 2 year old and I will be almost 24 weeks pregnant. Which is a better destination for taking toddlers (considering accommodation options, activities, food/drink safety issues, ease of getting there, value) and, if readers recommend Thailand, which area is best?
thanks
