Welcome to the branch that covers one of the most fascinating sports: scuba diving and – to a lesser extent – snorkeling. For those who always wondered what scuba diving actually stands for, it is the term used to describe the use of a “Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus” to stay underwater for periods of time greater than the average individual can breath-hold.

If you have more general questions such as accommodation you should also check the country/region related branches.

My partner and I want to go on a ten day snorkelling holiday in late April into early May. We're based in the UK and are looking for suggestions for a great snorkelling holiday location. We have already snorkelled in the Red Sea and St Lucia, so would like somewhere different from those two places. The reef is the main thing - accommodation etc takes second seat! Any suggestions? Thanks.
Bunaken Cha Cha or Living Colours???
Hi! Has anyone stayed at or checked out both these places? Our family is planning a diving/snorkeling trip to Bunaken and I'm having trouble deciding. We're traveling with our 13 year old and looking for a friendly, comfortable, well run place that will provide a great and safe diving experience (this will be our son's first diving trip after getting his junior certification). We'd also like great snorkeling with easy access. I've read some rave reviews about the house reef off Cha Cha. Both places get good reviews, I'm just wondering if one might be better than the other in terms of a family diving/snorkeling holiday. Thanks!

Hello all,
I ended up buying the scuba mask/HD video camera that I asked about the other day to no avail . . . . and now I'm contemplating buy a side-torch (light). The light snaps onto the side of the mask. From what I read, it seems like the extra light would brighten up images under water and help me get more accurate (and beautiful) pictures of the colors. But then I got to wondering if the light would be too intrusive - I don't want something that is going to be bothersome to our underwater friends. Any thoughts?
Hi,
I recently found a dive internship with Desert Divers in Dahab and was wondering if anyone has ever dove with them or knows anything about them... The internship costs about 450 euros and includes two months of work, then two months of part time work and courses. Although I'm a bit strapped for cash, this doesn't seem like the best option for me, becasue my entire purpose for chosing an internship over direct payment was to gain experience diving, doing a lot more than the 60 dive requirement for the DM course. I only have an Advanced certificate and I wanted to get as many dives under my belt as possible... so I'm having doubts about this internship. Can anyone help me with information about Desert Divers, or with information about alternative internships in Dahab?
Thanks.
We are fairly beginner divers, but have been to the Belize and LOVED it. We are looking at either Grand Turk or Andros in the Bahamas. Any opinions as to which is better, or a different island? We liked wall diving, but not too deep, and don't require much besides nice beaches and water. The less touristy the better.

I was in Thailand recently and got my open water (and advanced) through SSI. My worry is diving places around the world say they want to see PADI, will they accept SSI?? what is the difference surely they must be almost identical? I will be diving in Honduras in a few weeks and i hope it won't be a problem.
Can anyone think of a situation where SSI wouldn't be accepted?
Any word back would be great cheers

I was thinking of doing my Divemaster in French Polynesia (probably Tahiti but could go to another island if necessary). I inquired about the prices and they turned out to be pretty steap but not out of my budget. I have 6 weeks there, from late April till early June, and wanted to ask if it was a good place to do a divemaster? I mean is there enough to keep me interested for 6 weeks?
I'm also curious about other peoples experiences so if anybody could reccomend a good divecenter that would be great :-)
Dennis

Hi guys' it does not matter where it is, where is the best place in the world to swim with whales in august?
If you could go anywhere in the world to start your training for a career in scuba where would you go? For years I've been a avid snorkeler and last month in Mexico I finally got my PADI Open Water. Since I was a kid I have loved the water and snorkeling but now I think I'm truly falling in love with scuba. This is still just an idea that I'm rolling around in my head. I have at least 6 months before I could start any training do to a recent shoulder surgery. Do to the injuries on my shoulders I am forced to sell my company and leave my trade.
Of course I planned to start another business in the future. But before I decide what I want to do with my life I wanted to travel all 7 continents and take a few years off. The idea of doing something that I love and getting paid for it is something I've always fantasized about. I've done my research and spoke to as many people as I can abo...

I'm off to Austrailia in april and wanted to dive on the Barrier Reef. I have no dive experience as of yet but I will be staying at a dive school in Thailand, I was just wondering what sort of experience would be necessary for diving on the reef!

Has anyone tried any of the Liquid Image underwater scuba mask/cam setups? I am specifically looking at the HD Video cam -- I like the idea of getting decent quality video without looking through a viewfinder......but I'm not experienced to know if it's just too gimmicky. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated . . .

Hello.
I'm thinking about taking a liveaboard safari trip this september. Having been on several safaris around Sinai, I'm wondering about what's going on down south. I gather that the places to be are Brothers Islands or St Johns Reef. Does anyone have experience of safaris at either of these, any reccomendations / advice??
Thanks in advance for any tips.
