I've been planning a cycle trip from Budapest to Stockholm starting Aug 1st and had planned to cycle up along the Elbe river from Prague as far as Hamburg.
I'm wondering is this now possible?
Can anyone give a recent update on the cycling conditions along the Elbe?
I am a female cyclist wanting to cycle Africa nearing the end of the year. I am 43, have lived a nomadic lifestyle since 2004. I have done alot of traveling alone in those years. I have cycled through the US and in Mexico and Guatemala. I would love to someday find another nomadic companion to make a world trip but at least looking for someone who wants to cross Africa. I prefer to cycle from Morocco to Cape Town but would be willing to cycle the East as well. After breaking my shoulder in Mexico I realised that I would change directions and head to Africa....if anything worse would have happened I would have been sad I didn't bicycle Africa. I am quite frugal, love to go with the flow of things and want to travel at a slow pace. The bicycle is the way to see the world..but not the WAY in itself. I am in Germany now and can leave anytime from anywhere after the end of August.... more »
I am planning a trip from London to Paris, then through France and, possibly a little visit to Italy. I would love a companion for all or even a part of the trip.
Dates: approximately 20 May 2014 - 20 August 2014. I am hoping to take a budget friendly approach to accommodations. I plan to use the extra money to eat and visit museums and other cultural sites, but I don't think that we would need to do the same things all the time.
As for me - I am planning this trip to celebrate graduating from college and starting my full time job. I do speak French and plan on picking up some Italian over the course of the next ten months.
Please let me know if you're interested!
On Tripsite, com they are offering this tour, where the second person pays ½ price, when we split the difference (prices start at this rate but the travel agent on site is checking to see the availability and looking to leave Aug. 11) 499 EUROS vs. 645 per person and INCLUDES the lodgings (on a barge-2 to a room) food, and support van if you are too tired to bike. There are bus tours and other extras included and the ride is considered easy. Is eight days.
I have a more detailed profile in Travel Companion Exchange under evagoblog where you can contact me (they have a free membership) or either text or call and leave a message at 424 757 4429 for me to return your call. (Don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.) more »

Would cycling from Portland to Vancouver (BC) be possible mostly on quiet roads? Are there lots of state parks with cheap camping and villages to pick up food along the way?
I was planning to bike Van to San Fran, but think doing a loop might be more manageable distance-wise, have more diversity and, most hopefully, make me avoid the heaviest traffic.
My name's Tom and I cycled around the world. Since I've got back I have written a book and set up a website (www.tombrucecycling.com) which has some advice and tips for people wanting to do a similar trip. I've put my route, photos and some pages of planning advice on my website.
My route took me from my front door in Cheshire, through France, Switzerland and Germany, to the Danube River, which I followed across Europe to the Black Sea. I cycled through Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea, which I crossed on a Ferry to Kazakhstan. A long crossing of the Kazakh Steppe and the Karakalpakstan desert from Beyneu to Nukus brought me to Uzbekistan and next up was the high altitude Pamir Highway in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Then into Kazakhstan again before a 2 month crossing of China through Xinjang province, across the Tibetan Plateau, along the Yellow Ri... more »
How is the situation in the Sichuan mountains after the earthquake?
Has anybody updates of roads, villages etc?
Thanxs 4t effort!
This topic has got to have been covered before, but I swear I tried the search function and didn't get anything relevant... Anyway, lady cyclists, what do you wear when you're touring? I live in the tropics and I'm going to be biking the Pamir highway this summer, so I'm not convinced that my usual style of clothing is going to work (both for climate and cultural reasons). Any tips??
I'm planning to cycle the Kinnaur/Spiti route next week, starting from Shimla, but David Cook reported on 14 Jun the road beyond Kalpa was damaged by massive landslides (see his post here, http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=1&page_id=330234&v=2A ).
Anybody has any latest update on that road status?? is it passable now?
if the road is still blocked, is there any bypass that I can take without back track all the way back to Kumarsain/Narkanda continue north on route 11?
I notice there's a route MDR28 from Rampur to Banjar on google map, but not sure if it is cycle-able or not. anybody has any info on this route?
I will be leaving Vancouver around July 25th and will have four weeks to make it to San Francisco.
I really haven't planned this at all yet, but heard it's a great route.
Are there any roads or little detours, idyllic camp sites and swim spots, funky villages, that are recommended? Is it easy to find informal spots to camp on the beach along the way?
Can I expect enough rain to justify packing my clunky fenders?
With only four weeks, will I have to rush a lot of the time?
Is there a direct bus, or do we have to change at the boarder?
Which route will it take, how much is it?
And: will it carry our bicycles?
(explanation: we traveled this road last year, and dont want to do it a 2nd time (although Anzob pass would be worth it...)
Hope this time Pamir HWY is open!!!
Who has experiences flying a bike with Air China?
What are the charges and what's the obligation wrapping, how many kilo's etc?
Thank you for your effort!
