Suggestions for Nicest French Villages Itinerary

Dear Francophiles:

Earlier this summer, I did exhaustive and exhausting research and planning for a trip to Italy and Austria with my mom. It was a great success; we both loved it.

Just a couple days ago, I got back from a fun but tiring trip to Turkey, which I had done a lot of research for.

At this point, I am more than a bit tired of trip research! So, I am hoping that with your help, I can take the lazy way out this time.

I would like to take my mom on another trip this summer. She has been watching the Tour de France on TV and commenting on the scenery (as she does every year), so I'd like to take her there (not necessarily to the places on the Tour route). We would like to spend about 2 weeks visiting (staying in) the lovliest villages set in the prettiest natural scenery, and we would like to do all traveling by train.

Could anyone suggest an itinerary (or a ... more »

Partner for Mont Blanc 13-16 Aug 2012

I was planning to climb Mt Blanc some time between 13 and 16 Aug with my OH, but unfortunately she can't go (work obligations), so looking around if anyone would be interested in joining me?

Thinking about doing the traverse route, have already found a guide (yes, considering my not very extensive yet experience I'd prefer to do it with a guide, unless someone agrees to act as one ;) ), but now need a second person for a "team" (somehow I don't really like the idea of going alone, not mentioning the difference in costs).

Anyone interested?

Cheese tasting in France?

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me with some suggestions please. Me and my husband are cheese lovers and we are heading to France soon and we would like to go cheese tasting.

We will start our journey in France driving from: Calais, Tours, Toulouse, Aix-En-Provence, Dijon, then Paris.

Does anyone know where to go to do a small cheese tasting tour? which towns? We are happy to drive an hour or so away from the towns mentioned above to get to the cheese tasting place.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions for spending a week not too far from Chatellerault?

We'll be staying one week with friends in Oyré, near Chatellerault, the last week of August. Afterwards we'll take an extra week of holiday just the 2 of us (both 32 years old). We thought about driving to the Ardeche (we're Belgian so we'll be there with our own car) but that still seems like 8 hours drive. Oops.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice place to stay which is nearer to Oyré, preferably with the possibility to camp on a campground with some facilities (a pool, for example), where you can do some things similar to the Ardeche? (Canooing, or things like that)

VISA HELP!!!

I am a South African citizen in urgent need of a France visitors visa. I will be spending 5 days in Paris and my flight is on Wednesday the 26th July 2012. I am currently in Beijing and will be back in Johannesburg on Monday 23rd July. Unfortunately in China the application will take a minimum of 15 days and it is impossible to delay my trip. Your advice on my options will be MOST appreciated. Also I've heard that I can purchase my visa once I'm in Europe already, this sounds risky, but is it true. Thanks a million

8 hous in Paris

I have a 8 hours lay over in Paris (flight arrives 15:10 - departs 23:30). Considering I have to go trough immigration, transport to city centre (way and back) and I also should arrive back at the airport 2h before my flight...that leaves me with 4 and a half hour free. Is it possible to go to the city (without loosing my flight, of course)?

A question about Tafoni and Beachcombing along the Cote D'Azur

Mostly for Shutterbugs: we want to know whether there are specific spots along the Riviera known for beachcombing (i.e. seashells) and also tafoni. Although we've been there a number of times, previous trips had a different focus, hence this query. Merci.

American applying for student visa for france from Slovakia

Hello everyone!

I'm in need of some help to collect all the information I need to apply for a student visa in France from my current location (the Slovak Republic). I am 100% certain I am allowed to apply for my visa from the embassy in Vienna, as I have residence here in Slovakia, but I don't really quite understand the pre-visa process. According to every website I've been to, I need to register with Campus France because I'm an American, but I cannot use the American site because I'm not applying from the US. The embassy in Bratislava isn't sure what I need and are taking their time to find out, but I need to submit my visa application a.s.a.p. so I can have my visa in time for the program. Could anyone please tell me exactly what needs to be done? Examples of an American submitting their application from anywhere in the EU would be helpful. Thanks so much!

-Theresa

Le Havre - 14 hours

Hello,

We will be on a cruise which will dock at Le Havre for 14 hours. What can we do during this time? Are there public transport from the port to the city like busses, trains or tram?

Thx,
Jim

Immersion schools in France

My husband and I are looking to spend 3 months at a french immersion school in France. We are not particular with where in France as long as it's a good program. We also wants to be in a region with very few Americans, :)
Basically, I would appreciate first/second hand experiences from schools. We are looking into a 12 week program that is reasonably priced.

Thanks!

A week in the Burgundy/Rhône area

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are heading to France for about 2 weeks in late September/early October and I've been thinking of spending about 5 days in the Burgundy area. We've been to Paris in the past but haven't been anywhere else in France. We're not on a huge budget (thus are not renting a car) but can afford decent hotels, good food and some vineyard tours. We'd like to see some of the countryside (harder without a car, I know) but were thinking of basing ourselves in Beaune or Dijon for a few nights, and maybe a night or two in Lyon. The detour to Lyon is mostly due to all the wonderful things I've heard about the cuisine there, but I don't think I'd want to spend more than a day or two in the city itself. After we leave the area, we're heading to Provence for a week or so, so Lyon wouldn't be too far out of the way. We normally pack a lot into our trips so we're used to a fas... more »

Paris Tours

Hello,

I am travling to France in a few weeks and I am traveling to 6 cities in 2 weeks. Since this is so short I think I will have a hard time seeing all the cites in each city. I really want to see all the highlights in Paris because I know there are so many worth seeing.

Does anyone know of a good tour that will let me see all of the main sites?

Thank you

Brandon
