taxi from athens airport to pireus port
CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE??
We will be arriving into Athens Airport at 1620hrs on a Saturday (11th Aug), really soon, yipee, can,t wait.....But, we (my partner and our 6 yr old daughter) have to get to Pireus Port to catch the last boat at 1900hrs to Agistri.
Is this possible, (i.e., baggage reclaim, customs, etc) because if not, I am in deep schtum!! And will have to book accommodation in Athens for the night in advance? Recommendations gladly appreciated if to be the latter!!
I travelled many years ago by cab to port and remember it being quite a journey, especially at that hour? Also, would anyone know what we should expect to pay in the taxi?
One last question...The return journey?....Do you think we will have any problem hailing a cab or even getting a bus back to the airport from the port to airport a week later? We will have alot more time on our side on the return so...

Berliner High Trail
Hi there.
My wife and I intend to do the "Berliner High Trail" early September. Walking about 7 days from hut to hut. We are now in the middle of the planning and would like to know:
1. Do we need to take slipping bag…?
2. Is it possible each morning to send our luggage to the next hut…?
3. What about food: dinner, breakfast and something during the walking…?
Thanks a lot

In and out of Greece
My husband and I are plaNning to visit Greece next year as part of a trip that will also include Turkey, Croatia and Italy. However I heard the other day that it's become difficult to get into Greece by ferry, train or bus ... I'm wondering if there's any truth to this and if there are any tips we should hear before planning our trip?
All information will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :)

One month to see it all--Europe
My boyfriend and I hope to embark on a month-long tour of Europe, arriving in London and departing from an undecided city (whichever is cheapest/easiest to get to Moscow) to continue our vacation through Russia, China, Japan, and Thailand next mid-May-July. We will have 4-5 weeks to spend in Europe, so we will likely buy the Global Eurail one month pass.
We definitely want to visit as many of 23 countries as possible, hitting as many of the capital cities, but we feel like we would be remiss to not indulge in the countryside as well. That said, can anyone recommend any countryside cities worth visiting that would be accessible by train/short drive from train stations?
These are the countries we will be able to travel through:
Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Luxembourg
Netherlands
Norwa...

Favorite Cities
Hi,
I'm planning on doing a solo back packing trip through Europe next summer, and I am wondering what are some of your need to see places?
I just came back from an 11 month exchange in Belgium as an exchange student with Rotary International, so I have been to a couple of places already, but for sure are planning on going back to Brussels, Ghent, Paris and London.
What are some must see sights/cities?
Thanks

Our Italian Holiday
Hi there,
My wife and I are travelling to Europe for a month in Aug-Sep and we’re dedicating 3 days to London and then half our remaining time to France and half to Italy (14 days). I posted the itinerary in the French thread but just posting my Italian ideas here.
I’ve never been to Europe and my wife was there when she left school so has seen major attractions etc. We’re looking for a mix of culture, nightlife and a bit (but not overload) of sightseeing. Enjoy meeting and getting to know different people – one of the joys of travelling! We’re planning on travelling by train and bus where necessary. Our budget is reasonably tight although not shoe-string, so a mix of hotels and b&b’s is probably what we’re looking at. Interested in any thoughts – below itinerary is rough is the moment and we’ll probably ‘wing it’ to some extent, although will book ahead ~4-5 days at a tim...

Our holiday in France & Italy
Hi all,
My wife and I are travelling to Europe for a month in Aug-Sep and we’re dedicating 3 days to London and then half our remaining time to France and half to Italy. We have been through the painstaking process of crossing southern Germany and northern Spain off our Itinerary (will have to wait until next time!).

Enjoy meeting and getting to know different people – one of the joys of travelling! We’re planning on travelling by train, hire car and bus where necessary. We’ll also need one internal flight I think. Our budget is reasonably tight although not shoe-string, so a mix of hotels and b&b’s is probably what we’re looking at. 2-week Italian Itinerary
Hello! Looking for some guidance on my travel plans for Italy (for the first time ever) with my husband in May. We plan to fly into Venice, stay 3 nights, then take the train to Tuscany and rent a car (perhaps in Siena). We'd like to then spend 4 nights in Tuscany, probably based in Montalcino, with some day trips to the countryside (San Gimignano, Siena, Pienza). Next, we'd like to spend 3 nights in Positano and will probably drop the car off in Orvieto, take a train to Naples, then hire a driver. It will be a long day of travel to Positano, but I have my heart set on it. After Positano, we'd like to use the same driver to take us to Matera for 2 nights. Then back to Rome (via local train/bus to Bari, then express train to Rome), for 2 nights. We will fly out of Rome.
I know we're not giving much time to Rome, on this trip at least, but I really want to see a lot of countryside. W...

Going overland from Greece to Turkey - Border Crossing @ Ipsala
I will most likely be taking the bus from Alexandroupolis to Ipsala (sp?). I understand that I show my (US) passport, pay a $20 US fee, and get it stamped.
1) I am under the impression that the Greek bus leaves me somewhere, and I must proceed by vehicle to the Turkish border. Is this correct, and if so, are there shuttle services to do this? Is it pretty routine, or are there any scams I should know about beforehand?
2) I assume there are ATMS at the border or money exchange available at reasonable rates.
Is that correct?
2) Once at the Turkish border, can I get a bus from there directly to Canakkale, or is there more to it than that? Ie., does anyone know how I can get access to a bus schedule to get an idea of the wait time at the border? I just don't want to be spending a great deal of time in transit at the border, if it can be avoided.
Thanks!

Europe trip after HS graduation
A couple of friends and I have decided to start planning a 2 week trip to Europe during the summer before college. We've been looking a few different options and what would be best to travel western europe. We are 3 males. Would it be better to do a guided tour or should we get a eurail pass and stay in hostels. We live in San Francisco, CA. Our goal is to keep the trip under $2k USD per person but we want to aim for $1500.
This is basically what we would want to do but would it be cheaper to use eurail and hostels?
Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times

What can I expect to pay for a room for 2 weeks in S. Crete
Hi:
I am going to need a simple room in a small village on the SE coast of Crete (probably in Paleochora, or maybe someplace near it - Sougia, Loutro....). My question is how much can I expect to pay for a room (with private bath) if I stay for 2 weeks? I would be taking the room probably the second two weeks of October.
Do you think it will be possible to get something for 25E (or cheaper...)? I have heard that rates can go down if you stay for a long period of time, but I have no idea of what to expect or what is reasonable to ask for.
Thanks

finding cheap rooms
I am a mature solo female traveller visiting Mykonos, Paros, Ios and Santorini in August. Do people offer cheap rooms at the ports and how safe and how much will it cost me? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
