2 girls, 1 week in Spain

Hi all, my sister and I arrived in Barcelona yesterday and have one week. Our thoughts are to get out of the hustle and bustle for a night or two.,We are interested in being along the coastline or even a quaint little town inland. Somewhere within a few hours of Barcelona, with authentic food, some degree of nightlife and moderately priced accommodation. If anyone has any recommendations I would be interested in hearing from them. Thanks so much!!

Nice accommondation

I am looking for cheap hotel , but it seems to be very difficult.
Travelling time will be in July.

Airport hotel prices are quite good, but how long does it takes to get city?

Any experiences about apartments ? Housetrip.com ?
Are they reliable?

malpenza to Verona

the usual dilemma
we arrive at Malpenza airport Miian at 13:45 on Sept 28th and wish to commute to Verona the same day. The airport bus booking website does not respond to our request for direct bus tickets. The alternative train travel requires two journeys via Milan city. Given that Sept is just out of peak season, should we purchase and reserve train seats in advance or will we be able to buy on the day?

Islands for sporty activities?

Hello,
My partner and I are planning a two week trip in late June/early July. We are both keen hikers/divers/kayakers, so are thinking of going to the islands.

1. Are there any islands that you would recommend for diving and/or kayaking? We would prefer to rent kayaks, rather than go with tours.

2. I realize that we'll be travelling in high season, unfortunately. Are there any trails where the hiking might not be so crowded?

We are hoping to visit two to three islands, based on where we can get the best combination of these activities.

Thank you for your help!

M

Itinerary Ideas

I am going on a 2-week solo journey in August to the following places. I would greatly appreciate feedback on this rough itinerary, how to get places, and any ideas of places to see, things to do, etc in each place. I am in my 20's, backpacking and making only a few hotel reservations along the way so I can remain flexible. If I think there is more to see in a place, then I can extend the stay. I enjoy the outdoors, taking in the cultures, and athletics. I am trying to avoid museums but might stop into a few if recommended and group tours of sites.

Day 1- Arrive in Amsterdam, recover from long flight

Day 2-3 - Amsterdam: roam city, bike countryside

Day 4- train to Brussels: get a Belgian Waffle!

Day 5-10- train to Paris: see the sites (Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, etc), see Ligue 1 match

Day 11- train to Normandy beaches, then overnight boat to Londo... more »

Sicily - where to go around Palermo for 2 and half Days?

Hi,

I have just booked flights to go to Sicily for 5 days, no where near enough time I know, but this will hopefully be the first of many visits. The plan is to arrive in Palermo mid-June and stay there for 2 days. We are then hiring a car for 2 and half days to go and explore. I wondered if anyone could give us some advice on where to go for these days. Ideally, it would be within an hour and half drive from Palermo, it would be located by a nice beach with good food and a romantic atmosphere. I also love history so if it can be within reasonable driving distance of some interesting sites, that would be an extra bonus. We would be staying Fri-Sun if this makes any difference.

I would really appreciate any advice as all of Sicily looks amazing and I am finding it so hard to narrow it down to one or two locations!

Many thanks in advance
Steph

Long-Term Holiday Rentals in Paris

My in-laws are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2014, and my romantic father-in-law is looking to rent an apartment in Paris from April 20th to June 14th with enough room to host friends and family who are lucky enough to drop in.

He's looking at the more traditional sites, and while I know about vrbo.com and airbnb.com, I'm checking in to see if anybody has suggestions for other sites we may not be familiar with. Or have been in a similar situation and have tips.

Naturally, there are financial constraints that we'll need to work around; specifically, he'd like to stay within $1,200 a week ($175 a night or about $5,000 a month). And he'd like to be in an area that's easy for a 70-something couple to walk around. And he'd kill me if I didn't mention "great restaurants" — then, it's Paris.

Any help is much appreciated. They're wonderful, and I'd love to steer them in ... more »

2 weeks from Barcelona to Porto

Hey all, wanted to ask for some tips in planning my trip. Before someone tells me it's a lot in 2 weeks, please know that the ticket is already purchased (it was much cheaper) and we will have to deal with it.

We arrive at noon in Barcelona on a Saturday, we have 16 daysm so my preliminary planning is as follow:

  • 3 nights in Barcelona. Fly to Seville on Tuesday evening.

  • 2 nights in Seville, bus to Granada on Thursday evening.

  • 2 nights in Granada, Alhambra on Friday, bus/train to Madrid on Saturday morning.

  • 3 nights in Madrid (one side trip to either Segovia or Toledo), flight to Lisbon on Tuesday morning.

  • 3 nights in Lisbon, bus to Porto on Friday.

  • 3 nights in Porto, then fly out on the Monday.

Any thoughts and recommendations on how the days are allocated for each city? Any good restaurants to try? What are good side trips for Barcelona (if we have... more »

Wine tasting, cheese tasting, restaurant & general tips - Montepulciano

Dear fellow travellers,

I very much value the tips I have received on the Thorn Tree in the past and hope for some useful information for our upcoming trip to Tuscany. Although not as exotic as destinations in the past I am very exited!

We are a couple on their late thirties travelling with our three year old daughter.

We leave on May 25th and will spend two weeks in a rented house between Montepulciano and Montalcino. Between San Giovanni d'Asso & Montisi to be exact.

This was a rather last minute decision so I am not as meticulously prepared as I otherwise would be.
My apologies in advance.

I would very much appreciate any advice you have to offer on the following in the region:

  • wine tasting (I am finding a lot of overpriced daytrips catering to Americans - would prefer smaller, more personal but could deal with big if the surroundings are must see)
  • cheese t...

Anyone done a cycling tour of the Lore Chateau's before?

I just wanted to ask if anyone had done a cycling tour of the lore region before and what they could tell me about it. it certainly looks really good and a chance to see the countryside yet the main company that offers it is pretty expensive. is it possibile to just rent a bike for a few days and go off yourself?
if so what are the best Chateau's to visit and what can be done to make the trip any bit cheaper yet still over an exciting few days
