Food/wine in South Tyrol
Hello!
I would be grateful for sharing experience and recommendations about good restaurants and tavernas in Bolzano and surrounds like Merano, Terlano, Gargazzone, Renon (Ritten). Also in Trento. Interested in tasting local food and wines in authentic atmosphere. :-))
Thanks to everybody!

Wife's first trip to Europe. Doing Paris and Rome. Need 3rd spot
Planning a trip to Western Europe for early September, and traveling with my wife and our 18 month old daughter (11 days). It's my wife's first trip to Europe, i've been a handful of times. I know, I know, we should have fit Europe in before we had the baby.
We are set on Paris & Rome. We need recommendations for the 3rd spot. Since the first two are big cities, it would be nice to make the 3rd destination a smaller city, less mainstream, slower pace, with good scenery, good cafes and pastries.
We'll visit 3 destinations and stay a full 3 days in each place, to avoid to much moving around, checking in, checking out, transit. We'll leave a day of travel on the first and last day of the trip, for a total of 11 days. Traveling with a toddler is challenging enough, even if you're relaxing in one spot. The idea is to make the trip now, while the toddler flies for free, and ...

Nice to Milan train schedule
Hello everyone.
I looked up on schedules and routes for this trip and found out that I will have to take a train from Nice to Ventimiglia then from Ventimiglia to Milan.
I wanted to find out the times and prices however had been unsuccessful.
I went to trenitalia website and when I put it Sept 8 date, it shows no results.
Also went to bahn.de website and all it's showing are the trains that take up to 12-21 hours, doesn't show the faster trains.
I would like to see how much it will cost, and the train schedules.
Is it too early to see the schedules that's why its not showing?
I plan to stay a night in Milan then go to Rome.
follow-up question:
What kind of ticket/euro train pass should I get? Will be in Nice for about 5 days then Milan and Rome for total of a week.
Thank you.

Italy in December?
Hello everyone. Has anyone been to Italy in December, around Christmas? We're thinking of hitting the highlights -- Rome, Venice, Florence, etc. for about a week.
What is the weather like in December? Prices? Are there a lot of hotels closed during this time?
Thank you.

Hosios loukas and Daphni
Hello,
I'm planning 5 days in Athens next September. I have some questions:
1. What is the condition of Daphne monastery? It's still all in scaffolds?
2. How do I get to Hosios loukas monastery? I know it's on the way to Delphi but I didn’t found any public transportaion. I saw on the web one organized tour for Delphi + Hosios Loukas but it was very expensive..
Thanks a lot for your help

First trip to western Europe two weeks away!
Hey everyone! I'll be off on my first European trip in a couple of weeks, and I'm a newbie, so I need advice! I'll be gone for two and a half weeks, so the whole "clothing" issue has been a worry. Others have told me to ditch the shorts and go all for the dresses because they can easily be worn differently with a cardigan, what do you all think? I'm bringing one suitcase and one carry on, please give me clothing advice/weather for western Europe! I'll be in Paris, Amsterdam, and Munich.
Thanks so much
!

train travel pre book or on the day of travel. which is cheaper
Hi,
Will be using the train in Austria and would like to know if its cheaper to prebook a seat. Does it cost more to select a seat. In ireland when you book your name appears overhead the seat selected on the train carridge. How many days in advance would you have to book? And if you book from A to B on a certain day, would you have to travel on a assigned time. Again in this country if you wanna travel at another time outside of the time you booked then you pay 10euro extra. Of course now your booked seat will not be available, so you may end up standing all of the journey.
Mant thanks in advance for your help with this,

Berlin - Friedrichshain - welcome in the KIEZ
Puriy spends a lot of time on the road. In the meantime, friends and family are wondering when we are ever at home. It’s easy – never. The world is actually at home where we are at home, right here in our Kiez. So even when we are not travelling, we are out discovering what people from other cultures do. We go to Cumbia Digital-Partys, dance to Salsa and Merengue, we love Ethiopian food, meet with friends at „the Colombian“, visit Brasilian and African film festivals, etc.
Discovering different cultures within your own city is the motto for our new series, which you can find on our blog from now on. It’s where we introduce people from all over the world via short interviews to you, who get something going in our Kiez and let us experience their culture. We are starting off with the two wonderful cafés Louise Chérie and Homemade – both are little oases of peace. During the next week...

Places to drink in Paris, particularly North Paris
Hi
Does anyobe have any good recommendations for a nice place to have a couple of drinks in Paris for me and my girlfriend?
Hard to say what I mean by nice but probably places that are atmospheric, not dead quiet but not belting out loud pop music, something "Parisian/French".
We are staying in Montmartre so North Paris is especially good.
Thanks

Castelmezzano or Pietrapertosa
We will arrive in Castelmezzano or Pietrapertosa on July 4th (mid-week) and might not have a reservation. The Volo dell'Angelo won't be functioning on either of the two days we are there. Will we have trouble finding a room right smack in one of those two lovely villages if we just show up with our fingers crossed?
Thanks!

Switzerland on a Budget
Hello, I am planning to spend about a week or week and a half in Switzerland. I'm not really interested in the party/drinking scene while I'm here nor the culinary part of Switzerland due to the expense. A lot more interested in the natural/physical aspect on this part of my 2 month Europe journey. So hiking, exploring, swimming, etc!
Also, I want to use the least amount of travel days on my 10 day Global Flexi Pass!
Here is my general itinerary but very open to suggestions:
-Geneva (Cern, Swiss Riveria, Boat ride) only 1 day
-Lucerne (hike Mt. Pilatus) -> Take Golden rail
-Interlaken (Giessbach Waterfalls, boat trip around the Thunersee, canyoning?)
Option:
1) Kleine Scheidegg -> Grindelwald (take the Jungfraubahn up) to Jungfrau (Heard it is expensive even with 25% discount I will get with the Eurail Global Pass) **would stay longer if going to Jungfrau depends...

Trenitalia - No Confirmation
Hello,
Does anyone have advice about how to get confirmation numbers from Trenitalia?
I booked tickets for two trips within Italy in early June, from Rome to Florence and from Florence to Venice. In each case, my credit card has been charged, but I never received confirmation from Trenitalia. According to the website, I was supposed to receive confirmation that included an electronic ticket and a reservaton number.
I do have "retrieval codes" for both reservations. I probably made a mistake in not registering on the Trenitalia site when I made the reservations; I registered after the fact, but I can't access any information.
Any ideas? Thanks so much!
