Which is the best part of town to stay close to the tourist attractions? Is south of the Vieux Port good area to stay?
any suggestions please for somewhere in Greece where there is an "informal" naturist beach, access to watersports e.g. sailing, windsurfing , maybe a bit of culture, laid back atmosphere and good flights from UK. Thanks
I'm backpacking around Italy, North to South, for the month of July - flying into Milan on the 1st and doing the following route:
Milan, Lake Como (trips to Bellagio, Varenna), Padova (trips to Venice, Verona, Asolo), Bologna, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples (Capri), Amalfi Coast, Sicily
If anyone has any advice or places i've missed off, or if you're doing a similar trip, i'd love to hear from you.
I plan to stay in hostels or cheap accommodation (not camping though!) and plan to travel by rail or bus.
Thanks so much
Im wondering if anyone who's been to Lagos has any tips or advice for outdoors/water activities that might be available in the area and/or companies that run these kind of activities?
We're heading there in late Aug - early Sept and I'd really like to do some snorkelling or diving, cave exploring or anything else that anyone can recommend that sounds fun!
A friend and myself are going to be first time travelers in Europe and our main priority is safety during our travels.
We end a Top Deck tour in Amsterdam and have 3 and a half weeks to travel before accommodation booked in Munich for Oktoberfest. We would like to see Belgium, Barcelona, Ibiza and Greek Islands Santorini and Ios in this time and also Stockholm if possible.
What would be the best way to travel between these countries (keeping in mind that Stockholm is not on our priority list)
-bus a bout
????? we are a bit unsure of the best way to travel safely knowing that we will be nervous and want to be proactive
Has anyone traveled by the S8 train to munich airport from munich central station during Oktoberfest?
Im curious to know how busy it will be and whether it is better to arrange transfers from my hostel or
just get the train?
I booked a flight to Santorini arriving early morning, and my intention is to go to Ios straight from there. It's going to be in july... I wonder if I should book the ferry to Ios in advance or jut get there and go to the port and find a ticket.
Does anybody know about this?
Does anyone know if it is possible to visit the underground basilica near Porta Maggiore? It has been inaccessible, with promises that it will "soon be open." I can't find information about it anywhere on the internet. Thanks for any help.
This post may be premature, as I haven't done nearly enough research yet, but here goes anyway... don't yell at me for being unprepared :-)
I'm going to be in Portugal Sept 1 through 15. I am flying into and out of Lisbon. I will NOT have a car. I am trying to get an itinerary together, and to be honest I'm slightly overwhelmed--too busy at work! (I've got 6 books checked out from the library and have cracked 1 of them open. Ugh.)
I'll be traveling independently/alone from Sept 1 to Sept 10, then will be meeting up with a wine tour in Porto from Sept. 11-14. Then it's back to Lisbon on the evening of the 14th for my flight home the next day.
So I need advice on how to make my way from Lisbon to Porto, seeing the major places, and arriving in Porto the morning of the 11th. I'm fairly certain I'll skip the Algarve, as it's out of the way and I'm not much for lying o... more »
Hello, fellow travelers!
I will be arriving in Toulouse, France on a Saturday afternoon the 6th of July and will have time to explore through Monday. I will also have the next Saturday to explore. I will need to be in Toulouse starting on Tuesday through Friday and have done some explorations of the area before such as Andorra, Barcelona for a short visit and the Caves around Foix. I'm looking for some more suggestions to see other areas of France/Northern Spain. I'm not a wine aficionado and like to enjoy nature and small villages.
I do love Caves and heard there is some great hiking around caves in Dordogne. Does this makes sense for a day trip from TLS? Are there organizations who give tours of the caves? Can I get some maps and explore on my own. I don't like things too commercialized and prefer places off the beaten party.
Is there something else in the foothi... more »
I've been reading the threads a fair amount and it seems that there are several experts when it comes to reining in unrealistic itineraries. I was hoping for some advice on if I've fallen into the common traps.
-Two adults late twenties/mid-thirties traveling from Boston to Athens and returning through Athens
-16 days in September 2013 (18 including flight time)
-Mostly interested in beaches, culture, history, natural beauty, ruins, and enjoy good food and a glass of wine, however like to have some nightlife options for part of the trip but are not into partying.
-Budget: Around 100 euros per day per person (including lodging) - hoping for some days to be less, willing to spend more for a couple of nicer hotels for a few nights
-Have never been to Greece/Greek Islands before and trying to take to heart the advice of not spreading ourselves too thin but would... more »
Just a few questions about seeing the Eiffel Tower and Louvre. (and yes, I have looked at these places online, read reviews etc - but would like some further info from those of you who have been there).
We are going with our 9 year old girls in mid September and I would like to know whether it's worth (time wise and hassle wise) buying advance tickets to the Louvre online (easy to do - but are there big queues for the Louvre all the time? We're going on a Thursday).
And regarding the Eiffel Tower, I've tried buying tickets online - but they're unfortunately all sold out on the two days that we'll be there! (and I've been checking for the last few months, but just missed it when they were available).
So do you still get a reasonable view of Paris from the 2nd story/tower - which we'll walk up to.
I am a newbie traveler - traveling all by myself for a 10 day trip to Europe. Time is money and therefore I choose to fly rather than taking a train(?). I am planning to fly to Paris on Sept 19 for 3 days and then fly out to Venice on Sept 22. 1 day in Venice and then I head out to Rome by EasyJet for 2 days trip.
From Rome, I plan to go to Florence for a day and this is where I am getting stuck. I plan on staying 1 day, 1 night in Florence. However my challenge is to find a suitable time saving option (and money, too, hey!) to fly to Brussels from Florence. My problem is - I cannot find any airlines that is cheaper than $212 and that too is a 12 hour long flight. The ideal would be a direct flight - however the only direct flight on SkyScanner I am being shown is going to cost $412.
What am I missing here? How can I make this connecting trip from Florence to Brussels ... more »
I am off to Gozo for the week on Wedensday, it is a work trip but Saturday I am staying in Masalforn wondered if anyone around to meet up for a couple of drinks.
My Girlfriend and I are planning on starting the Haute Route on July 7th and I have been curious how the trail conditions are looking. We are experienced trekkers from Colorado and are not new to navigating snow fields and high alpine terrain; however, we do not intend to bring equipment for steep/deep snow conditions. I'm wondering how the snow and trail conditions have been this spring and if we should expect problems with any of the sections we are planning. Our Itinerary:
7 - Chamonix - Trient
8 - Trient - Champex
9 - Champex - Le Chable
10 - Le Chable - Mount Fort Hut
11 - Mount Fort Hut - Prafleuri Hut
12 - Prafleuri Hut - Dix Hut
13 - Dix Hut - La Sage
14 - La Sage - Moiry Hut
15 - Moiry Hut - Zinal
16 - Zinal - Bella Tola Hut
17 - Bella Tola Hut - Gruben
18 - Gruben - Grachen
19 - Grachen - Europa Hut
20 - Europa Hut - Zermatt
