I was wondering if there is a ferry schedule online that I can look at for ferries going from Naples to Ischia... On the way back I would like to stop in Procida for half the day... And then go back to Naples.
Any advice would be great!
I'm planning a trip to Italy in early October with my boyfriend. We're flying to Rome for a few days and then hiring a car. We were planning to spend the 10 days travelling by car to Pulgia and back up through Basilcata etc and back to Rome. But I've started to do a bit of research on Sicily and its looking really interesting as well and in fact it might now be looking better than Puglia! So I'm getting confused! Also we don't want to rush around and try and visit little bit of each place so it will have to be one or the other. Oh and we're on a mid range budget.
So has anyone travelled to both these regions and if so what are your impressions? We are mainly interested in beautiful historic villages, archaeological sites/ruins, enjoying the local wine and food and avoiding the built up touristy areas. Since we live in Sydney we're not that bothered about visiting the be... more »
Hi everyone! I hope I'm not violating anything by posting this question here (I did read the FAQ and the itinerary stickies), but this is my first Europe trip and I'm trying to get everything figured out as realistically as possible and for that, I need your experience! My trip is planned as Benelux + France, starting and ending in Brussels. Travel would probably be 2 Sept - 23 Sept. No, I haven't bought my ticket yet (priced around $935), but I will by the end of this week once my itinerary is deemed feasible.
A little background about me: 23 year old female, have traveled in the US for long stretches (1+ mo in a car with no hotels) and can work a budget. I appreciate art but don't have a "favorite" i.e. I don't "need" to see the van Gogh museum this trip. I am more interested in architecture, particularly the art nouveau style and classical churches - I hear Europe has a few of t... more »
Hi I am going to Nantes for a week at the end of September . Can anyone please recommend a fairly inexpensive place to stay in or near downtown? (My companions are attending a conference).
Also we are planning to spend several days exploring the region by car and would appreciate any recommendations for things to do or places to see.
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Europe next year (May/June) for two months. I've put together a rough starting point itinerary just to get the conversation going. We have 10 months until the trip so lots of time for more research and I'm sure the plan will change. However, I was hoping for some advice on this very rough plan.
I've put all train rides as 0.5 days for arguments sake although some are obviously longer/shorter than others. We might also consider overnight trains for a few of the longer trips.
We definitely want to go with the "more time in less places" idea but I've already found myself having a hard time sticking to that!
1 day fly to Amsterdam
3 days in Amsterdam
.5 day train to Paris
5 days Paris
.5 day train to either Nantes (because of the song by Beirut lol), somewhere in Burgundy, somewhere else in the middle of the country...need help on thi... more »
I'm a 21 YO Australian and I've recently arrived in the UK on a 2 year working visa. I've decided to that I would really love to work in France for ski season preferably as a chalet host. I'm aware that I would need to get a visa to work in France but am not sure if it is possible to acquire one of these visas while I'm in the UK. Also the visa requires a background check from the police of the state I am from in Aus (Queensland) but this seems if not impossible, quite hard to do from the UK. I have found out that you can get a background check done by the Australian Federal Police while in the UK and I was wondering if that would be enough. I'm worried about this because apparently the French visa process is quite strict and if you haven't got the correct documents then you will be refused. Assuming there is a way around all of this I then found a lot of chalet host jobs a... more »
We are going to a wedding in Mykonos at the end of September / early October and cannot wait.
Does anyone know what the weather will be like then and/or whether it will be worth buying a thin suit or whether a woolen suit would be ok?
Also, does anyone have any good recommendations for beaches / restaurants / bars at that time of year - we will be hiring a car so will be easy to get around.
Very many thanks in advance - cant wait!!
Looking to rent a car from the Charles de Gaulle airport and drop off in Versailles area. We want to stay one night in that area or close to transportation into Paris. Looking at drop off on Sunday if possible. We are 4 women late 60's and 70's so do not want to walk really far to catch transportation into Paris. We are open to suggestions of other areas south of Paris also. Thanks
Hi, I am a 23 year old guy, and I will be going on my first trip to Europe in September for a little over 2 months. This is what I have on my itinerary so far:
Paris: 8 nights
Bruges/Ghent: 4 nights
Amsterdam: 5 nights
Copenhagen: 5 nights
Berlin: 7 nights
Prague: 5 nights
Krakow: 5 nights
Budapest: 7 nights
Vienna: 3 nights
Salzburg: 3 nights
Munich: 4 nights
Venice: 3 nights
Rome: 7 nights
What do you guys think? Is this too ambitious? I will be traveling by rail for the entire trip. I would love to hear your suggestions and thoughts on the itinerary. I am also concerned whether I am allotting enough / too much time on each location, and I would love to hear some feedback. Thank you so much!
I was thinking about traveling to Greece this December as a part of a 4 week long backpacking trip through Europe (probably also going to Turkey, Italy & Spain). I've heard both that a lot of places are closed in Greece during the winter and that everything is fine from a couple different websites.
Does anyone have any experience traveling to Greece during the winter that might know what the deal is? I'm hesitant to go because I've heard that since it's off season, there wont be as many other backpackers around meaning that hostels would be pretty empty.
can anyone give me links to guided walks i can print off the internet in amsterdam?
Hi, I'm travelling to Ibiza by ferry in September (I don't fly, so this isn't an option) and am just checking out the different ferry operators. There are Balearia and Trasmediterranea, both with similar prices and schedules (overnight, 9 hrs) - has anyone travelled with either? I'm just looking to take the cheapest option (around 100EUR return), which is a seat (Balearia has an "armchair offer") so I'm not expecting the utmost luxury! Interested to hear how anyone else got on with this journey. Thanks
So thought I would report back about my trip to Madrid, as it may help others planning similar trips.
Prices are correct as of July 2013.
Accommodation: stayed at Rafaeles Hotels - Ventas. Booked this through hotwire as mystery hotel. Paid about £50 a night for triple room only. Really nice hotel, would recommend it if you don't mind staying out of the city centre. It was practically on top of El Carmen metro line so only about 15 mins into Sol. Not sure what the room rates are full price though, may be a bit expensive.
Airport: €5 on the metro. Since I last went to Madrid ( about 10 years ago admitedly) an airport surcharge of €3 has been introduced. So to get to my hotel it was €2 for normal metro ticket (10 stops) + the surcharge. I ended up getting metro as due to the location of hotel, any speed at catching cercania, or cost effectiveness of getting the bus w... more »
Trying to budget for our trip to Sicily in mid September.
We have already arranged our accommodation.
I wondered if anyone has been to the west of the island and has a rough idea on the costs of things like a basic meal out, a beer, a one hour bus ride, those sort of things..
All the best
searching the internet I found a schedule for boat services along the Ligurian coast and Cinque Terre. It is valid till September. Since we will be in that area mid-October I wonder: will a new schedule for "Winter months" (after September) be published in due course - or does it mean that boat services will be suspended in "Winter" ? (October in Italy does no seem to be winter to me! )
Any information appreciated!
