I'm hoping someone has some advice about solo travelling France, Italy, Switzerland, perhaps further in July this year. I really want to get out and see some of the rural areas off the beaten track, staying overnight in a combination of camping and hostels over the course of around one month. Would like to spend some time in major cities but mostly in the countryside. Limited budget of around £1k ish.
My dilemma is that I don't have anyone to travel with, so will be going it alone, and as I want to roam the countryside I'm not sure how to get about, the options I'm considering are below..
1) Train: I have interrailed Europe before so know what the trains are like, however they are quite limited when it comes to rural areas so not sure they are the best choice
2) Car: The best choice to reach obscure places and for freedom, however expensive to go alone, I w... more »
For a trip to Paris, we are searching for interesting coffeehouses that provide a welcome environment for hanging out, writing, casual chat etc. Looking for a bit of Paris charm rather than the Starbucks motif. We are staying in the 7th near the La Tour Maubourg metro station, and then moving to the 6th near Pont Neuf. We are walkers and happy to move around a bit for the right spot. Merci!
Can anyone suggest a bicycle shop near the Berlin HBF central railway station please. I will be wanting to pick up a bike carton & I will be staying at Motel One which is opposite the station.
My husband and I are traveling to Europe in September/October 2012. We are 29 and 30 yrs old. We have both been to Europe before and have visited the major cities and landmarks.
This time our priority is to spend enough time in each location to relax, explore, visit the beach when in seaside locations and eat great food.
We are flying into MILAN on 4 September and intend to spend 2 nights there.
We then have about 16 nights from 6 – 22 September and we would like to fit in the following locations if possible:
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the number of nights we should spend in each of the above locations and the order of locations leaving from Milan and ending in Rome as we plan to travel from the last of the above locations to Rome on 22 or 23 Sept... more »
So a friend of mine and I want to travel to Istanbul. We are going in September. Duet to time constraints we only have 9 days total...2 days travel. We definitely want to explore istanbul (the purpose of the vacation) but want to use our time wisely and possibly spend time elsewhere. Based on my research (very rudimentary, as this is the first time I've planned a vacation--usually use travel agent...but what's the fun there), I'm not sure really traveling the Greek island is going to be reasonable during our short stay. Another Idea I had was flying to Thessalonika and spending a few days there.....reasonable? We really wanted to see the Agean Sea and I googled day cruises, but came up short... Maybe Rhodes? I'm so confused now that we are adding the Greek side to this trip....
I am taking my mom to Positano this summer. She is generally in good shape, but sometimes her knee and back give her trouble. In case this happens, I would like to find a hotel in Positano that is very near the road where a car or bus would drop us off, and also near an area of Positano where there are restaurants and cafes that she could fairly easily walk to.
At the end of May we will be in Athens before going to the islands (still deciding which ones). Anyone knows if 3days tourist transport tickets are still available? Apparently they were 3 years ago and included airport/ferry transfers.
And any recommendation for a medium priced hotel in the city conveniently located for sightseeing?
Thanks a lot in advance
Hi, I'm planing to visit the Malaga region for 2 or 3 months in June,July and August. Knowing that it is high season I'm planing to rent in the city core where I see many apts available instead of the beach resorts.
Can anyone please enlighten me on the following points?
1-When it says the term "monthly rentals" does it mean a month at the time without a fixed term contract?
2-Are you expected to put up a deposit in guarantee?
All suggestions and infos ref renting studios in Malaga or nearby are most welcomed.
Hi, I'd like to book a return train ticket from Rome to Naples. Does anyone know which webpage i use to book these tickets? Do you need to buy a ticket for a child less than 2yrs old? Your help is appreciated....cheers!
were flying to verona may 9 and will arrive in the airport before lunch planning to stay 1 night there then go to venice and stay 3 (may 9-12) nights, then milan 2 nights (may12-14) thinking of doing a day trip to lake como on may 13. were flying back on may 14 @ 20.50pm. really want to go to lake como but not sure if we have enough time to go around milan for 1.5 days. so should can we do verona half day ( where can we leave our luggage safely?) then spend 3 nights venice then 3 nights milan? or is 2 nights enough in venice? or should be we just skip verona and go straight to venice? havent on these places before but have been to rome before and had a great time there.
would appreciate any advice that you could give
thanks and regards

I will be in France this June and I will take the train for short-haul trips (Marseille to Aix...Nice to Cannes and Monaco, etc.). For those short trips, is pre-booking necessary, or can I pop up at the station before the train leaves and get a seat?
(btw...is Rail Europe the general site one goes to for looking up trains in France?)
My only experience with pre-paid SIM cards is in Asia where it is as easy as buying candy in a million stores (and super-cheap, like a euro), but is it the same in Germany? I've heard in Switzerland you have to show your passport that you are a resident or something, but what about Germany?
Can you recommend a particular company or are they all pretty much the same and cost the same?
I am spending most of my time (maybe a month each) in Holland and Germany. Does it make sense to get 2 SIM cards or is it reasonable to use one in both countries?
Thanks for your help,
It has been impossible for me to order tickets from Trenitalia online and by phone. (See the thread titled Trenitalia Site.)
Can anyone suggest a good way to buy tickets in advance? What do you think of RailEurope.com?
