Road trip advice for 9 days Virginia, North Carolina?
Hi,
I have 9 days spare to go on a mini road trip in Early March. My start point is Louisville Kentucky and my end point is Columbus Ohio. I really would like to see Virginia, West Virginia and maybe North Carolina. I know that is a big ask, so just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions of where to go and what to do. I hunt for antiques for my business here in Oz, so any side trips or great spots would be more than welcomed. I will have a car and not on a budget. I don't have to visit these places but they sound kinda nice. But, also open to other suggestions.
Thanks!
Jamey
Camping inspiration for So California / Arizona in March
Hi,
We are planning a camping trip in mid-March and I was hoping for some inspiration from people who have been out and about in California/Arizona more than me. We will have a car and would like to camp but we would be looking for somewhere not too cold. We have basic camping equipment but no down sleeping bags! For this reason I was thinking about Southern California and/or Arizona. We have about a week and will be starting from Sacramento - we can either drive down or get a short flight.
We love being outdoors, doing challenging day hikes and seeing the amazing scenery of the US.
Previous places we have loved include Bryce Canyon, Zion NP and Yosemite - we have done some driving down the Big Sur too but no hiking.
I am looking for advice on somewhere where it won't be so cold in March, where we can enjoy camping and do some great hikes and I would really appreciate your recomm...

Hawaii Advice
Hi All,
I am brand new to this forum but super excited that I discovered it and hoping someone can give me some advice!
I am travelling to Hawaii with my partner in July for our honeymoon.
We are planning:
5 days on the Big Island
3 days on Maui
8 days on Oahu.
Can anyone give advice on the best areas to stay on the big island and Maui? We want to be close to populated areas so its easy to walk around, rather than hiring a car (although we are not opposed to doing this if we have to). We are also looking at doing the touristy things like a luau and a volcano tour so if anyone has any recommendations for great things to do, I would love to hear them!
Thanks in advance,
Nikki
Backpackers hostels in San Francisco & general advice.
Hi,
I am going to San Francisco by myself for a week on the 1st of March. I'm on a budget and will be staying in a hostel. Does anyone have any recommendations of good hostels?
Also, any tips on ANYTHING about San Francisco would be appreciated!
Thanks

Best USA Roadtrip?
Hi all,
I am looking at arranging a road trip throughout the US next year, and was hoping to get some suggestions as to what sort of routes to take from people who have taken them, or from Americans who simply know the regions well.
We have up to 2 weeks, and are pretty open in terms of what time of year we go, although we would prefer to go in warmer months.
Budget wise, we don't really have a limit.
There are 4 regions we are looking at -
- East Coast
- West Cost
- Route 66
- East to West coast
In terms of what we would like to see and do, we are late 20 males, and would like to combine city/social/partying with wilderness type activities.
Any suggestions would be more than welcome
Thanks,
James

Philadelphia, Boston, or the South/Southwest?
We're trying to figure where to go during early to mid April in the US that offers pleasant weather, walking, museums, and culture. Which would be ideal, Philadelphia, Boston, or another charming city like Santa Fe?
South Florida itinerary
I'm putting together an itinerary for Florida with rental car. As we'll only be there 8 days I think I better limit my trip to the South (also, I'm not really into attraction parks, so Orlando isn't on my list anyway). Key words: beach, clubbing, sports, design, fashion, art, lounge, ...
Thanks for your feedback on the below itinerary. Anything I should add or drop? Recommendation for hotel in Everglades? Thank you!
Saturday 23 March - Miami
Sunday 24 March - Miami
Monday 25 March - Miami - Fort Lauderdale - West Palm Beach
Tuesday 26 March - West Palm Beach - Everglades
Wednesday 27 March - Everglades - Grassy Key - Key West
Thursday 28 March - Key West
Friday 29 March - Key West - Key Largo - Miami
Saturday 30 March - Miami
Sunday 31 March - Miami (early morning departure)

Off Highway 1 camping grounds
Hi
Will be driving between LA and SF between Feb22nd and Feb 25th and am plannning on camping at different spots en route. If you had to choose between camping at Julia Pfeiffer or Andrew Molera State Park, which would it be?
Mind you, I won't be booking ahead so am planning on doing the first-come/first-served type of camping....And am trying to do it as cheaply as possible!
Thought of staying close or in Santa Barbara on the first night ....maybe Carmel on 3rd?? Monterrey? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Las Vegas loop that ends in San Francisco
I am planning a trip for my son's graduation with his dad and grandfather this summer in June. The rest of the family is meeting the guys in San Francisco on the 12th of June. They are flying to Las Vegas on June 7th. This will be a first visit to this region and my son is interested in seeing a fight in Las Vegas (though there are none scheduled :( ) , hiking in some cool locations, (we are thinking Grand Canyon for sure) and he also had interest in hokie Route 66 places and or ghost towns. We thought Mesa Verde National Park looked so cool- with the climbing into Indian homes in the cliffs, and Arches Nat. Park looked amazing. We also have the option of staying in Lake Tahoe with my step brother on the way to SF....So, to enjoy the time as much as possible, see as much as we can and still get to SF.....I'm not sure how to plan this. I'm wondering " do we go for it and try to ge... more »

90 days in USA - road/train trip - Final plan
Just wanted to share our plan for the USA now that we've been researching and rearranging for a couple of months now. We have a 90 day visa waiver (from Australia). I have seen many posts coming through Thorn Tree and TA alike requesting information about ambitious cross country trips (that's how ours started) from travellers who are keen to get a taste of the variety of land and cityscapes that the USA has to offer. I thought our itinerary might help anybody who is searching for ideas on a longer USA trip with a few different flavours. We've done lots of reading and researching on this itinerary and although it is personalised for our interests, it could easily be adapted to another's tastes.
Bear in mind that this trip has left out Hawaii and the North-East corner. The main reason for this is because we don't want to stretch ourselves too thin and have hopefully balanced out a tr...

San Francisco to LA/San Diego then on to Las Vegas
Hi guys
Firstly, I am a newbie to the forum so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place!
Me (21 male) and my partner (24 female) are planning a bit of a road trip for late summer 2014.
The general plan at the moment is fly to San Francisco and spend around 3 nights there then we will be driving down the coast (route 1/pch I believe?) to LA where we will also spend around 3 nights.
Could you please advise of good places to stay/visit on the journey south? We will be looking to make the journey over 2/3 nights.
After we are done in LA we may make a journey to San Diego, is there much to do there and is the drive worth taking?
Either after San Diego or if we do not go there, after LA we will be going to Vegas for 4/5 nights. The initial plan was to drive there but having viewed a few reviews this doesn't seem like the best of journeys? So we may take a flight?
The...

I70 between St Louis and Denver. What to see?
Hi,
I keep trying to plan an East-to-West route across the USA starting in Boston and ending in Seattle.
Google maps says that the driving time between St Louis and Denver is 12 hours and I am not going to do all that driving in one day, that's for sure. So, my question in where should I stop?
Also, I guess there's lots of stuff I could visit along my way. Any pointers?
I wouldn't mind spending an extra day on this leg of my trip if it is really worth it.
Thanks.

Best route from las Vegas to Yosemite In early April
My husband and I together with our 3 kids aged 1,9 and 14 Will be taking a month long road trip in California in late march. We will be leaving Las Vegas on the 10 April heading to Yosemite. We would also like to visit mammoth lakes before heading to lake Tahoe and then across to sf and then back down the coast to LA. I am very concerned about the trip from LV to Yosemite because I am not sure of the best route at that time of the year and where we should stay to break up the trip as I understand it is quite long.. We want something scenic if possible but fairly direct. I would love some suggestions on the most sensible way to go. Thanks

A round trip from Philadelphia to Alabama RV or Car ?
Hello
My wife and I are travelling to states in March 2013 for a two week trip.
We fly into JFK from there will be visiting friends in Philadelphia and Alabama.
We would like to compare hiring a RV verses a Car / Motels.
If anybody has experienced travelling using the above it would be good to hear the opinions for both options. Ie cost, comfort, adventure fun etc
Much appreciated

Parks in southern Arizona
Hi All
My memory has failed me. I seem to recall reading/hearing about a park - not sure if its a national park, monument, state or what - in southern Arizona that is only open in winter. Can anybody shed some light on this? Keen to go. Apparently it is too hot in summer.
Is my recollection faulty?
Thanks
