How to best spend our time

We are going to Bakersfield in California for the Hot Rod Reunion (a 3 day hot rod show) in October. We have 2 weeks in total and want to do a road trip for the rest of the time . We have visited California a number of times and seen the main sites. Are there any places that those who know would recommend that are off the usual tourist track?

key west

Hello. I'm heading to Key West in April.
Originally wanted to go there to check out the underwater art gallery at vandenberg shipwreck but I've heard they took the art pieces down already :( It was my bad for not making sure before I purchased the tix. I thought I saw the show going until the end of April......

Now, I'm searching for a new adventure. I'm there for 3 nights, thinking of diving for 2 days.
Which diveshop is better than the other?

What else and where else can I go to do some water activities?

I'm still looking for a place to stay..... so expensive. If I stay in old town I don't need a car but I have to have a
car for the whole stay if I'm staying out side the old town?

Thank you for your help!

Arizona sites recommendations needed

We are a newly retired couple and are staying with family in Mesa, Arizona starting 3/20/2013 for 10 days. We are at the Marriott in Flagstaff one night and the Best Western near the Grand Canyon one night.

We will visit Sedona and the Grand Canyon....what other sites should we take in?

Any favorite watering holes or restaurants?

Many thanks!

6 week cross country trip with some specific questions

Hi All, I am looking for some suggestions for an RV trip we are taking in mid May through nearly the end of June (6 weeks). I'm really wondering about the Bryce/Zion/Mesa Verde/Canyonlands/Arches leg of the trip. For example, how much time do I need in each place to get a good idea of what there is to see. We are traveling with my in-laws so there will not be a lot of strenuous hiking involved. Any hiking would have to be easy and short. I am very flexible with my days/times as the only place I plan to have a reservation at is Yellowstone area. This is my tentative schedule.

May 13th - Depart NJ 7am drive to Bristol VA area (approx. 10 hrs driving, we may decide to stop sooner)
May 14th - Depart Bristol VA 7am area arrive Great Smoky Mountains (approx. 3 hrs. driving)
May 15th - Depart Great Smoky Mountains 10am arrive Chattanooga, TN (approx. 3.5 hrs driving)
May 17th - Dep... more »

Selling a van in USA

Hi I am a UK citizen living and working in Canada at the moment on an IEC visa.

In July my girlfriend and I want to to spend a couple of months driving down the west coast to LA, sell our camper van there and fly home.

The van is 24 years old and was made in Canada

I understand from the US border guards that its ok for me to sell the van there as long as the transaction doesn't take place with cash because I'm not a US citizen, its got to be an electronic transfer into a bank account or something.

My question is about the paper work. Do I have to get any special paper work at the boarder that the buyer might need to register the van in the US? In Canada when i bought it me and the bloke i bought it off went to an insurance office together to sort out all the paper work, is this how it works in the US? How easy is it for someone to import a vehicle of this age to the US?

Louisiana - first week of April

I am going to be in Louisiana the first week of April and was wondering if there are any special activities that I should not miss. Oddly enough, New Orleans is where I plan to spend probably the least amount of time* so events anywhere else in the state are more interesting to me.

*I grew up near New Orleans so it holds no exotic attraction for me, but for some odd reason my family never went to see what else might be happening in the area.

San Fran for 8 days

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be travelling to San Fran end of Sept/early October for just over a week.

We'll have a car for most of the time.

I'd like to explore San Fran (Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Cable Cars, Colt Tower, Golden Gate) but I'd also like to go on day trips or overnight trips to other places.

What would you recommend? Point Reyes, Sonoma/Napa Valley, Santa Cruz (to try surfing and check out the boardwalk) - is there anything else neat to see and do in Santa Cruz?. What about Monterey? Is it worth checking out? I know Redwood National Park (I think that's the name of the park) is a little too far to do with the limited time we have but is there anything closer to see like Muir Woods, Mariposa Grove or Yosemite?

Also while we are in the car, do you recommend certain coastal or national park routes?

Any good bike tours in San Fran? Am I missing anythi... more »

Austin-New Orleans-Las Vegas-New York

Hi all,

I was hoping for some transport advice regarding the above trip.

We are planning to start in October (in Austin for a wedding), and have allowed 2 weeks for New Orleans-Las Vegas-New York.

I've looked into Amtrak, and internal flights, but really wanted to get some thoughts on the best ways to get between these cities, and whether there are any convenient stop-offs along the route to break things up a bit.

I think we'll probably get the Sunset Express to New Orleans, but from there, it's a bit more open, so any suggestions would be more than welcome!

Thanks,

Rosie
