I would like to ask question about driving a van in USA.
I am from Poland. Age: 29. Next year I wanted to rent a VAN(12 passanger) from NYC and drive around country..
But my question is:
Will my IDP(International Driving Permit from Poland) plus my polish driving license (I have category B) will be valid for driving a van(12 passanger) here in USA?
In USA on standard local issued driving license cat. D allows you to drive a van.
Thank you for any input.
My husband and I are in Washington State the 3rd week of October for work and have one free day in the Ellensberg area. We are visiting Seattle previously, and will be seeing Spokane and the Grand Coulee Dam on our work travels.
We were interested in doing some rafting / fishing on the Yakima River but after talking to a local outfitter sounds like the River is too low for this. We are interested in beautiful scenery, moderate level hiking, fly fishing (or regular fishing) - any suggestions for a day activity (we will have the full day) in the area?
Hi, My query is not strictly travel rated, however I wonder if anyone one here could help.
My daughter (studying for her IB2 / Grade 12) has to do a school project on the opportunities and difficulties that may be encountered by the merger of Delta Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, particularly with regards to customer service. She needs to get some primary and secondary data to substantiate her claims. The sources have to be known and verifiable if needed.
Secondary data, is easily available in the public domain, however Primary data needs to be obtained from persons who are either currently employed or have been employed by the companies concerned. Most current employees might not want to offer their opinions, due to them not being authorized to do so, but past employees may have no such restrictions.
Virgin flies to India and employs local Indian crew, Delta flies too, but do... more »
1) What's the best comedy club to attend in order to catch some bigger names trying out new stuff unannounced?
2) Does James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem) dj regularly at any New York clubs?
3) What are the best places to get local produce and micro brewery beers?
My family of 6 are looking at travelling to America for the first time this year; November 2013. Seeing as we have never been before we arn't sure where we should go or what we should see etc. Any recommendations/ideas?
We are looking at doing the East Coast. The cold won't phase us and we are looking at going for roughly 3 weeks and heading to Hawaii on the way back to Melbourne, Australia. We are a healthy, active family and are very open minded. Money isn't an issue at this present time as I'm just trying to get some ideas of places to go, things to see/do, what to avoid etc
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!!

I will be going to the Bay Area for a college football game with my nephew from Spain. The game is Saturday night and we are arriving at OAK on Friday midday and staying in Fremont. Looking for things to do on Friday and Saturday. We are going into San Francisco on Sunday and leaving Sunday night. Not sure how long it takes to get over the pass into Monterey but that seems to me to be a bit far for such a short time. We might stop by Jack London Square for lunch before heading to our hotel to check in. Fremont Mission might be an option or maybe Half Moon Bay. Looking for things that might be unique both artistic, cultural and historical. Maybe a run to UC Berkeley since the game is at Stanford on Saturday.
I'm planning a sojourn to Kauai in January for 8 days and planning on seeing both the south and north. Other than what I can glean from guide books can anyone share any "off the beaten path" destinations that may be interesting.? And, that said, can anyone reinforce or vouch for some of the more common attractions that are worth the journey, time, etc? I am up for anything (hiking, water sports, local dives, etc.) Thank You.
I shall be reaching Newyork JFK on 5th Oct at 14:15pm and my next connecting flight for Austin is at 20:54pm. Almost 6 hours stop-over. Is it possible for me to take a quick trip to Manhattan? Any easy route that you can suggest?
We will be flying to St Louis, Missouri early next June for a conference that will last 5 days- I will sightsee while my husband is at his meeting. We then have about 10 -14 days free before having to fly to Ixtapa Pacifica.
We will rent a car at the end of the conference. Our interests are varied- we like walking, outdoor stuff, bird watching, historical sights and food! Not so interested in clubs or bars or theme parks.
So, my question- what would you recommend?
On the Appalachian Trail...there is a lot of mud and water....anyone know any lightweight trekking shoes that one could just walk through all this water and mud....also would one need any special type of socks or even go without....socks...
My partner and I are planing to do a honeymoon trip to America, we originally were planning to leave from Brisbane go to Cancun for 8 days then go to Los Angelos and Las Vegas. Unfortunately we don't have the funding for this so Id like some suggestions on a few great places to visit in America whilst still including LA and Los Angelos. We would like to include beaches and places best to visit whilst there. Our budget over there is approximately $5000 for the both of us and to include the accomadation, etc. I hope this makes sence! if any one has any idea what im saying and can help that would be greatly appreciated!
Here's the plan:
Arrival in Charlotte, NC, on 9 October.
As the intention is a trip "truly" east coast to the west coast, I intend to go to Charleston, SC, or Savannah.
The destination is the Sunny California. Los Angeles, maybe San Francisco.
The WAY will be crossing the southern states.
I have not yet set an itinerary.
If have time enough will fly from California to New York and then finish the journey down by train to Charlotte, through Washington and Philadelphia.
Goal: Discover how America really is "inside". Make american friends. Experiencing the freedom of the roads.
I know it's hard to find people who can share all the way. But I would be happy to have friends who can join me on this journey, at least in parts.
I'm a Brazilian guy who loves America since ever.

Hi, on thursday we'll be driving from Quebec City into Maine; we're interested in stopping at some small town (which as I see from the map is all there is) before Bangor. Any gems of a park/town/village/motel on the main route 201?
My two friends and I are headed to Florida for the end of October. We're looking to do something fun on Halloween. We'll be road-tripping between Miami and Orlando so we could be anywhere in south FL.
We're all in our early twenties, we love fancy dress and parties and getting spooked!
Heading to Charleston this weekend to track down some local/traditional Charleston dishes. Some of the dishes on our list seem quite readily available while others are nearly nonexistent! I can only find Huguenot torte available at one restaurant, Middletown Place, as well as chicken bog (Mamma Brown’s in Mt Pleasant). Hobotee doesn't seem to be on any menus, so we might have to give that one up...
So, do any of you locals know of other (or any) places preparing these dishes? Also, how similar is shrimp bog to chicken bog? I see that Hominy Grill does a shrimp version...
