Travel Buddy Wanted: Route 66

Hey Guys,

So im the typical 20 year old girl stuck in a nine to five job, itching to go on my travels!

I am looking into doing Route 66 next summer (2014).

The simple plan is to hire a car, see what route 66 has got to offer and just stay in cheap motels to get me by.

My friends haven't got the time (due to work commitment) or haven't got the money, so I thought the next best thing is to join a forum and find someone who also shares my interest to travel the US.

If you are also looking for a travel buddy, just message me, im one of the easiest (craziest) people to talk to.

Thanks a lot.

10 days' road trip from Vancouver, BC to SFO

Hi All,

I'm planning a road trip with my husband and 3 teenage kids (!!!) to SFO this summer. On our way to SFO, we plan to stop somewhere a little beyond Portland and second stop somewhere along the 101 Hwy.

On our return we plan to visit Yosemite and if possible other sightseeing places too. Any recommendations/suggestions on places to see, visit, stay, eat, etc. will be appreciated :)

Need help, somebody coming from Chicago to Turkey

Hye everyone,

We need your help because we were suppose to get a medecine from a friend, he already bought it, but he forgot it. It's just probiotic for chronic renal failure that you can find only in U.S, it's for our sick cat. The thing is that it should be kept refrigerated, like in a special bag with ice, that's why we can't ship it, the best is that someone take it in a plane. The mother of our friend would give it to you around Chicago and my girlfriend would wait you in the airport of Istanbul or Ankara or wherever you come. Thanks a lot for your help.

Where to stay in LA

I have been reading the previous advice on where to stay in LA and it seems that Santa Monica is a popular choice. I will be there for a couple of days with my Grandsons (14 and 12) mainly to see Venice beach and Universal studios and we want to be close to the airport as we are flying out early. Does Santa Monica fit with my requirements? How would we travel to Universal Studios without a car?

Share transport from Honolulu Airport to North Shore Fri June 21

Hello all, I am trying to make it to the North Shore (Waialua) from the airport on Friday afternoon, but unfortunately the group shuttles are charging me around $75 which is over my budget, and the bus route looks fairly complicated. I´m looking for anyone (or several people) looking to share a group shuttle to split that shuttle price.

I don´t have to go to any one particular spot, as I have friends that can help me figure it out once I get to the North Shore area. Any suggestions, or travel buddies are very welcome! Thanks -

Florida: West Palm Beach

Hi Peeps!

Please tell me the Bad, the Ugly, and I suppose, the Good about West Palm Beach.

Anything: people, climate, prices, attitudes & way of life, foods. It seems so far, like a foreign country!

My Dad's current wife wants to move him there.

We have always been Californians and have not been to Florida.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers, Claire

Las vegas - San francisco - San diego (end of july)

Hey everyone!

Im new on the lonely planet website, hoping to find some usefull info and maybe travel buddies for a trip Im planning to make next month (july 27th-august 4th). Im currently staying in Denver, and I want to go see Las Vegas, San Fran and San Diego in that week. I dont have a car, so I want to go by bus, but I would definitely prefer to find people to do a road trip with, at least for a part of my trip. Im travelling low budget and with little baggage.

For Las Vegas: What can you guys recommend on seeing and, equally important, NOT to spend time on? Also, do you think going to see the grand canyon when Im in Vegas would be a good idea? Is it possible to take a bus there for instance?
For SF and SD: I am really looking forward to spending time on the beach, but what other things could you recommend on doing&seeing there? In general when travelling, I enjoy nature, o... more »

Trip: San Francisco - Los Angeles and return in August-11 Days

Hi All,

I am planning some holidays in California for August.
I am flying to and back from San Francisco.
I have 11 days in total but would like to go down to LA and see Yosemite park and I need to make sure that I have enough time to go back from LA to SF..easy,no..?!
Even if we would like to see some of the main sights, I would like to make sure that it feels like holidays and have some time to relax. Does anyone have the magic trip formula? Shall I fly back from LA to SF, stop on the way back rather than way down?
If you have accommodation, restaurant information it would be lovely as well.
I am looking at budget/mid-range hotels.

Many Thanks in advance!

Lea

8-9 Day Trip from New York to Portland OR

I'm looking for three additional people who want to get to Portland, Oregon the scenic way. The trip will last 8 days starting July 11 and we will be camping the entire way, on the Allegheny River, the shores of lake Michigan and Superior, the Badlands of North Dakota, the Northern Rockies, and the Columbia River Valley. We will also have a day of rest at some wilderness hotsprings in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains. I have a lot of experience traveling around this country, especially out west, and every spot will be a beautiful site I promise. The vehicle has a queen sized bed built in and I can provide a two person tent or a single person hammock.

The trip will be about 3,400 miles (5470 km) long and the total cost of gas around $860. I am asking for $250 per rider. My share is a bit lower due to the time and effort put into organizing the trip and as I will be doing all of the drivin... more »

West Coast road trip - SF to Las Vegas

Hello,

We are a mid-30's couple from the UK planning a trip for September 2013, flying into San Francisco and departing Las Vegas, with a 2 week(ish) drive between.

So far our (very rough) itinerary is:

Arrive SF (Thursday)
4 nights SF
Pick up car rental, drive highway 1 to Carmel and stay for 1 night Carmel/Monterey area
Drive Highway 1 to Santa Barbara and stay for 1 night
Drive to Santa Monica and stay 3 nights Santa Monica/LA area
Drive to Joshua Tree National Park and stay for 1 night
Drive to Grand Canyon (Grand Canyon Ranch resort) and stay 2 nights
Drive to Vegas and stay 3 nights.
Depart

The route kinda looks like here: http://goo.gl/maps/HIkiG

Nothing is set in stone yet, except for the dates.

What are the opinions of this route/itinerary? Any major "missings" We really don't think there is time to enjoy Yosemite, so will be saving that for anothe... more »

One-week trip near Ohio

Hello all!

I'm a college student from Columbus, Ohio that's looking to take a camping/backpacking trip around the Ohio region for a couple days to a week. I'm planning on doing this between August 3 and August 23. I'm really new to camping and hiking, but I want to do a backpacking trip before the summer is over. Anyone know of any cool places in the area (I'm willing to drive)? Or if anyone is planning on doing the same thing, let me know!

Thanks!
Abby

Looking To Take 4-5 day road trip out west

Hello! I am a 26 year old American male living in Pittsburgh PA. I have some free time and I'm looking to take a road trip. My budget is limited so if I can find a companion to split gas and hotel with me that would be great. This is just a small trip for me and I've really been wanting to visit Austin TX because I've heard much about it. Let me know if you are interested. I think it could be a lot of fun. Seeking an attractive single female or a likeminded male who is fun and cordial.
