London 1 Week March 2013

Hey guys

I'm going to be in London on the 6th of March for a week next year, and am just wanting some advice about what to see and do.

What are the main things I should see in that week? And should I just stay in London or are there places close by that are also worth seeing? I'm a 20 yr old coming over from New Zealand to work for 2 years so I will have plenty of time to see the rest of England anyway (not sure where I'll be living yet).

My flight gets in at 5:20am, is there somewhere close to the airport that I can stay at (that is also cheap) that will let me in at this time? And does anyone have any hostels that they suggest staying in for the rest of my stay?

This will be my first time overseas by myself, if I'm staying in hostels will I meet people to go out partying with? Not really sure how the whole hostel situation works.

I'm sure I can find this all online ... more »

Renting a car/sharing gas cost in Cotswolds and/or Lake District

I was hoping to meet up with some locals/backpackers who are interested in seeing either the Cotswolds and/or the Lake District. We could either rent a car, or if you have your own, I'd happily split petrol/gas costs with you. I'll be in England from Oct. 20-26th and I'd like the opportunity to explore on my own, without a tour. I'm very easygoing, and enjoy a good laugh and a good adventure. I currently live in New York City, but since I'm not a very good driver here, I doubt anyone would want me driving on the opposite side of the road! Ha.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Passport Dilemma

Hello,

I am looking at leaving Australia in December this year and spending two to three months travelling around SEA and then heading over to the UK to travel and work the rest of the year.

Here's my dilemma. I have both an Australian and British passport. Obviously I want to enter the UK on my British passport so that I can work and travel for as long as I like. I have never used my British passport before and have only recently received it.

If I leave Australia on my Australian passport and most likely fly from somewhere in SEA or Japan to the UK, at what stage do I start using my UK passport?

Any advice will be great.

Cheers.

Need some info from locals

Hi!
Heading for London in a couple of weeks, just need some advice from someone with local knowledge.
I'd like to know where to find:
A. Bookstore/antiquarian that might have 'Footrot Flats' in stock.
B. A really top quality yarnstore, with high quality yarn, Rowan and good sockyarn mostly.
C. A really good chippie, within easy reach from 'London Bridge' tube station. An excellent one might be worth a longer journey........

Thanks,
Muminmamma

Exchanging Canadian drivers license to UK one?

So I recently just moved to the UK to study, I brought with me my Canadian drivers license and my Canadian international driving permit. I was on a bus to school one day and I believe I left my wallet with my Canadian drivers in it. I was wondering if I could still exchange my Canadian international driving permit for a UK driving license??

UK Entry Refusal Clearance to Enter Ireland...

I would like to ask you a question regarding my case with UKBA and I appreciate your help if possible.

2 years ago I was working as cabin crew for an airline and I had 4 cartons of cigarettes while entering London Heathrow airport.. I got a police simple caution and later on: The airline (I used to work for) received an email from UK Border Agency informing that I have an entry refusal to the UK (because i was evading tax and this is considered as a criminal offense)... so I stopped flying to the UK. (knowing that nothing is stamped on my passport since I was a cabin crew and we usually don't go through immigration officers)

Now after 2 years, I got accepted to work for EMC (Leading IT company) and my 2 months induction training will be conducted in Cork (in the south of Republic of Ireland)

Since you have mentioned that UK and Ireland shares the same database. How can I know... more »

Charity Challange Idea

Hey all...

1- I travel. I travel a lot, and I do it so cheaply that people are always surprised by how I manage to travel as much with a full time job that pays minimum.

I write and I take photos. Here is what I do:

www.facebook.com/photographyseven

2- I want to make my time traveling worth it for a cause. I have been involved in a local charity in Cork-Ireland on a personal level. Here is the website.

www.alicja.org

3- Here is the challenge.

12 in 12 ( 12 countries, 12 different trips in 12 months) starting January 2013

4- The Mission:

I want to meet and photograph Children with the same syndrome as Alicja (Charge Syndrome) in the countries I will visit.
I will carry gifts from Alicja to them and carry back gifts to Cork-Ireland to her.
I will Take photos of the cities I will be in and the people for Alicja to see as if she were traveling herself
I ... more »

Yorkshire Dales

I would like to stay in the Yorkshire Dales for 3 or 4 days next May, but am unsure as to where to stay and what to see. I am going to be backpacking so cheap accommodation would be good. Any suggestions? Also how should I get there from London? Thanks

Peckham

Hiya,

I can't seem to get a unanimous opinion on this question. Some say yes, others say no. Thought I'd come here and see what people have to say. My wife and I are going to be staying with a friend in London. She lives in Peckham, on Talfourd Road. Does anyone know if this area is really dodgy? We arrive in the morning and will be carrying backpacks (containing laptops, cameras, etc..), so I'm a little nervous about that. We will be doing a lot of sightseeing around London, hitting some clubs and what not in the evening, so I'm also wondering how safe it will be to walk around that area (from the bus stop, etc) at night. We're both experienced travellers and lived for several years in one of the worst areas of Vancouver, Canada, so it's not like we're naive rubes bumbling about the ghetto with our wallets in our hands.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Bye, guys- have a nice trip!

Five terror suspects, including the radical cleric Abu Hamza, fly out of the UK from RAF Mildenhall on a plane bound for the USA.

Enjoy the flight and have a nice trip.

Don't overstay your visa.............

London to Bath on Boxing Day

Hi

Is it impossible to get from London to Bath on the 26th of December by public transport? National Rail doesn't seem to have any options - when I search for trains it only gives me the ones on the 27th. National Express has a bus but only at 23.00 arriving 01.40.

Thanks for any info

Know a good B&B in Durham?

Any recommendations? We're going up by train, so something central would be good. Doesn't have to be flashy, especially since we'll only be there a couple of nights, but we like a good breakfast.

Thanks!
