My wife and I would like to attend the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve at St. Paul's. Anybody attended this event in the past? Is there a line to get in and, if so, how soon should one get in line?
I'm planning on taking a trip to England in Mid-May of 2013. I'm going to be flying out of Detroit. Any thoughts around the best time to buy tickets?
Appreciate any help!
My husband and I are both American citizens and we are going on a trip to Italy on January 2012. We live in D.C. United States. The flight lives from D.C. airport and has a connection in London, Great Britain (LHR), through American Airlines Operated by BRITISH AIRWAYS. The layover is 6 hours and 20 minutes long.
We are not sure if we have long enough time to make it out of the airport and explore the center of London at least for an hour. We already know that we can take the Heathrow express to get to Paddington station which should take aprox. 15 minutes, and then from there we would have to take a tube from Paddington station to Westminster station, which should take aprox. 18 minutes, to be able to get close to the Parliament, the London Eye, etc.
Six hours seems like enough time to pull this off, but it is a little risky when you think about how long it could ta... more »
I got back from 3 months of conservation work in the US almost a year ago now and I'm already wanting to get off again. Whilst I was over there I got told alot about WWOOFing and the idea of been given accommodation and food in return for work certainly floats my boat.
However due to work restraints I can't go next year so it would have to be 2014 and I'm wanting to go in winter, grow a beard and work on a farm. I'm talking like the highest of the Scottish highlands in the middle of nowhere.
Just wanted to know if anyones done anything similar? Would it be hard to find the work through WWoof-ing at that time of year? any other advice?
Thanks in advance,
I need to travel from Harwich International to Gatwick at around 2pm on New Year's Day. The cheapest fare I can find is £39.90. Does that sound about right? I'm not familiar with UK train fares anymore. Thanks.
My Chinese husband is tagging along on a business trip I'm taking to Coventry over the week of Christmas. He'd like to visit London and enjoy the sights while I'm at my conference.
We're looking for inexpensive accommodation for him near or in University of Warwick during my conference since he is not allowed to stay with me in my accommodations (he'd have to pay to register for the conference if he did want to stay in the room). I've tried Couchsurfing but haven't gotten a response from anyone yet. Since his English is not so great, I thought it best if he stayed with someone Chinese studying at the University or in a cheap hostel. Any suggestions for where he might stay or how to find accommodations? I'm worried with the holiday there might not be many options.
Will everything be closed on Christmas? Even Chinese restaurants? Any suggestions ... more »
So, I'm a little new to this but here's my story. I'm soon to be a high school graduate in June, and after applying to many different colleges I realized that going to college right after graduation might not be for me... I did some thinking and I decided I want to travel. I don't know where to get started or even how to get started; if anyone out there has tips or pointers that would be helpful, I am more than happy to hear them. Please, help!
My husband and I are flying from the UK to the US and have found a great flight which will give us a nice long layover in Paris. I've got a US passport and am confident about being able to leave the airport and enjoy the city for a bit before our connection, my husband however, has an Egyptian passport. Does anybody know if it will be a problem for him to leave the airport without having a visa? Even if we wanted to pay the fees for one, we haven't the time to get one before we travel.
Thanks for the help.
I will land on 24th dec on 23:00 so how can I get to Bromley from Heatrow Airport on that time.
On which days public transport is off in London on christmas time? Will I be able to find bus?
Also I wanna meet someone who plan to see London's official new year firework display as me.
I will be in Stow on St Patricks day. I'm well accustomed to celebrations here in Ohio. However, i'm flying blind here. Do Brit's celebrate it? How would a small town like Stow be? I don't drink anymore, but I do plan on having a pint or two while i'm in England. Just kinda wanna hear your guy's input.
Trying to go to the UK for Christmas & cannot believe the price of buses & trains these days
I found this http://www.britrail.com/passes/britrail-england-pass which seems to be 'perfect' on cost & price.
It offers 2 days in a month 'flexible' so I presume they're not consecutive days? Probably asking the obvious as the 'consecutive' days option is also on that page.
But prior to paying for this I want to be 110% sure I'm buying the right pass. 'First' day I'm looking at leaving LHR for Chester & spending a night or two there then head south to Taunton to use the 'second' day ...
Anyone see any problems with using it like this?
I am a Canadian and am interested in spending 1 or 2 years in England on a working holiday. I am a recent graduate with a Bachelors of Science (BSc) and was wondering what the probability is that I could get temporary work in England in the Science/technology field. I have read a lot about getting jobs through temp/employment agencies in travel, tourism, or hospitality. I was wondering if this is because these positions are the easiest to obtain or most available. Any information about experiences with temp/employment agencies would be appreciated. Also, I am open to living anywhere in England (but preferably not London).
