Hello Foumites- Is Visa on arrival as straight forward as it appears? I'm wondering if there are long lines or potential communications issues? Do you have to come prepared with USD to make payment, or can you do it with AUD? Doing a multiple entry visa via the consulate in OZ is a lot more expensive and seems more beuracratic? Any experiences? Thanks.
My wife and I are looking at 2-3 weeks holiday in Phu Quoc in late August/ early September.
I have mixed messages from previous forum postings that the monsoon maybe around and subsequent lots of wet days.
I have spent time in the Gulf of Thailand in Koh Samui and Koh Samat in September and the weather has been warm and sunny with short but heavy rain periods each day. Is the weather in Phu Quoc similar at this time of the year? Thanks
Hey! We've decided to take advantage of the el cheapo flights in to S.E Asia just now and are wanting to spend 3 weeks between Vietnam/Cambodia and if we have time Laos.
Question is, where is the best place to start?
I was thinking flying in to HCMC heading straight over to Cambodia then back tracking back to HCMC then over night train our way casually up to Hanoi, then flying out from Hanoi.
But maybe thinking we should do it in reverse as we want to have a few days to chill out on a nice beach somewhere. (But that would mean flying in to HCMC then a connecting flight straight away to Hanoi, works out cheaper than flying in to Hanoi directly)
And where would you put Laos in to this? Or with 3 weeks is it better to spend more time in Cambodia and Vietnam.
Any other suggestions would be awesome. Thanks a lot :)
Ive been reading so many posts on here, ive overloaded. more »
we are hoping to travel out for xmas+ NY to vietnam.
We have 2 kids 6+9
We fly into HCMC and then hope to spend 7 days on the beach.
What is the best destination for weather + facilities?
We are treating ourselves, so have a good budget and want to stay somewhere high-end.
Was thinking of Phu Quoc.
Any advice would most gratefully be recieved.
is there any cheap and reliable tour agent in LP offering 2days/1night tours around LP?
I have a couple of important mail that I'd like to be shipped to me from overseas.
Could you recommend me some trustworthy guesthouses in Hanoi that'll be kind enough to let me have my mail delivered there? The contents of the mail is important so I need to make sure there's no unauthorized peeking! Of course, I would be staying at the guesthouse, but to reduce the time waiting for the mail, I'd like to have it sent first before my arrival. I'm on a tight budget, so if you can, please recommend one of the more economical guesthouses.

I am trying to plan a few months away to travel Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
I dont have a time frame so I was hoping somebody could suggest how long you think in each place is enough.
I was also wondering if anyone had travelled all the way down Thailand and if it was worth it?
Could you please also suggest the top places to see in each location and any tips anybody has? or perhaps somebody has somewhere special they visited that isnt a main attraction? I want to try and see and do as much as I can whilst in each destination as I wont have the chance to travel again like this.
Any ideas on budget?
I have a friend who has just returned from a Vietnam trip and she tells me that all Halong boats are to be painted white... cos some official went to Monte Carlo andwas impressed with the gleaming white boats there???????
Sounds bizzare ... but I guess we are talking Vietnam . Does anyone have some information???
Can anyone here tell me where I can buy duct tape I've tried everywhere in Kampong Cham, but no one seems to have it. Also, does anyone know full Cambodian word for it? I know the word for tape, but it doesn't get far in a ductless society.
We are going to be in last next week. We're lucky enough to have a car and driver will be taking us one day from Luang Prabang to VV, and then from there on Vientiane. Are there particular things just off the road that we should know about and try to explore? We're particularly interested if there are villages that are not totally saturated with Tourists, interesting artisans, and of course, particularly beautiful scenery.
I am thinking about visiting these countries. and i ve been wondering how much money I would need to travel there?
I would fly out from Poland. What would be aproximate cost of that kind of travel?
Did anyone travel in these countries? and what was your total cost of the trip?
Hi guys I'm in Hanoi and have done a lot of research both online and in the city streets.
I have a terrific deal on Lotus Gold for $155 for 3 days, unfortunately this is still a bit out of budget. There is also the "Ha Long Party Cruise", The only online reviews about it seem to be fakes and no one knows much about it. Both travel agents I feel I can trust. The party one is NOT the hanoi backpackers one. We don't want 3 days of getting smashed in the bay but we don't want to overpay to be with a "boring" crowd. And I say boring because old is not the right word as some of our best and most fun friends are "old..er"
Were 22 yrs old and just want stretch our money. I've read all the horror stories and just looking for any feedback on either of these cruises. Specifically the "Ha Long Party Cruise" (NOT Hanoi Backpackers). We know it won't be as nice but if it is similar to whats d... more »
I know everything is quoted in US dollars but I just want to make sure of something: Can I use Thai Baht in Siem Reap?? I am from Singapore and the exchange rate from SGD to Thai Baht is way better than SGD to USD. So far I was told everything is in USD there and they return changes in Riels. But my lecturer said when he was there in 2010 Thai Baht was fine. Confused as hell here! :(
Also, anyone who knows whats the exchange rate from SGD to USD over at Siem Reap would be really great :)
It's crunch time I should have asked this before. Could some kind souls here please help me out with a few basic words and phrases and English pronunciations please?
How do I say things like - hello, please, thank you? Stuff like how much is this? Where is the loo? Where is ...
The language section of LP isn't all that helpful.
For example- the book says for hello, xin chao with an accent on the a, then it says sin jow with an accent on the o. Is it jow as in 'cow' ? For goodbye, they have tam biet with an accent under a and two accents for e - next to this is daam bee-uht with accent under a and u.
I don't know the phonetics. If only LP gave the phonetic sound it would help.
A very big thank you to anyone who is able to help.
