My wife and I are heading towards Vietnam next month. We are thinking of flying into Hanoi on 22 June and immediately take a train to Lao Cai. Is the train tickets easily available or do we have to book in advance. How much would it cost?
I saw a few website like vietnam-railways.com,vietnam-trains.com but wasn't really sure if I should book thru them or just do it over the counter. Also, which train ride is more comfortable?
By the way, would be nice if you guys can recommend some interesting things to see in Sapa. We are looking forward to the Bac Ha Sunday market and some hiking around. Would be interested to hear some of your stories and recommendation.
Before you tell me to search through the forum, I have. I am looking for current (i.e. within the last 6 months) info about how long it will take to get a Vietnamese visa in Bangkok. I'm fine paying extra to have a service do it so any suggestions are appreciated.
The last time I did this was back in the mid 90s, when I had far more time and less money! Thanks!
I'm heading over to Cambodia around the end of October for 3 weeks and would love some company for all or part of the trip.
I'm 23 f and have travelled a bit. I plan to fly in and out of phnom penh and work my way around finishing with a few days chilling out on the beach.
This a rough guide:
I don't have a problem travelling solo but it's always nice to have some company.
So I have been looking at my guidebook about getting from the Cambodian capital to the Vietnamese capital. I can see that the fastest way is via bus (6 hours). First, has anyone done this? How is the ride? How are the buses?
I am also considering getting into Vietnam via the Mekong River although this is where I am slightly confused. I still need to get to HCMC. Has anyone done this or does anyone have info about this? Am I looking at bus-boat-bus? How long does this actually take?
Unfortunately I don't have the amount of time I would like to do this and if we (husband, 11 year old daughter and myself) have to do the 6 hour bus ride, we'll do it. I just thought it would be nicer to travel by boat.
Any help, advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What are hotel bookings like in January. When is is sensible to book. Any recommendations
Hi, I willgo to Cambodia in August. I want to stay in mid-range hotels. What is better, to book in advance or wait and look for walk-in prices? I suppose that in August hotels won't be full, will they?
Hi guys i've recently booked to go travelling early Jan with a friend, a stop off in Honk Kong for a month of which we're wanting to get out to Vietnam. Has anyone suggestions the best ways to do so and how much would it cost for internal travel from Hong Kong?
Where have people stayed thats worth a trip? cheers
If anyone has applied lately I just wanted to know if the visa application quizzed you about convictions?
Hi.. We are in the very preliminary stages of planning our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with a day or 2 in KL.. Could you please suggest if Nov is a good time to visit from cost, crowds and weather perspective.
We were planning for Dec earlier.. but thought Dec is too much of peak season everywhere!
Thanks in advance!
... is the park closed M Is it still possible to go to the upper grassland ? Any contacts ?
I was wondering if I should book a tour for a private sampan from Saigon to Phu Quoc up the Mekong Delta prior to arriving in Vietnam or is it easy enough to sort locally. We would want to travel almost as soon as we arrive in Saigon.
Thanks in advance for any help
Just read in the Cambodia Daily that 30 buses each from Thailand and Cambodia will receive licenses to run the route directly starting June.
I was wondering if anyone had the experience of flying out of Cambodia with a dog (a rescue). I was told I would need TWO full sets of vaccinations (rabies, parvo, hep, distemper, etc...) PLUS an export permit for Cambodia to allow me to leave with the dog. But the person telling me this was also the one selling me the vaccinations and would be "kind" enough to get me an export permit for $60 (a $20 charge for their time), sooooooooooooooooooooo..... yeah, I'd like a second opinion. And I can't find a straight answer anywhere.
The export permit thing I MAYBE believe, since the government can make a few bucks off that. If so, where would I go to get it and what do I need for it? Could I just get it at the airport on my way out or do I need to arrange it in advance?
Now, this whole 2 FULL sets of vaccinations thing I find really hard to believe.... to bring th... more »
Hi there, would anybody like to exchange dollars or baht for Myanmar Kyat??
I have recently returned from Myanmar and have just realised I have 100, 000 Kyat left which works out at $122 using the exchange rate of 815 kyat = $1 (which is the best exchange rate I found in Myanmar, from a local bank)....willing to do a better deal though!!
Let us know if interested.....I will be in Bangkok from now until Monday 4/6/12
