I'm planning on going to vietnam for two weeks at the start of November. I'm a 23 year old female going alone from the UK. I've been to Nepal and India before so not anxious on travelling alone again but I'd like some input from those who have visited vietnam before....
Ok, so it says there will be monsoon during November occurring in central vietnam so I'm planning on staying in south or north or work my way up / down....
My interests are..religion, food, temples, people, markets, beaches, experiencing vietnam on a more travelling type rather then a tour led experience....
My main questions are:
Is travel via coach or train easily accessible? I.e. if I were going to attempt getting from south to north? Also, would this be difficult seeing as monsoon is taking place in central? Also are there cyclones?? : /
How safe is vietnam for a young female on her own? Should I consi... more »

If Central Vietnam - particularly Hue and Hoi An is to be visited, is it better to fly from Saigon to Hue or Saigon to Da Nang, considering that Hoi An is also to be in the to-be-visit list and I have to fly back to Saigon from the same airport that I fly in? Thanks.
Hi, I would like to see rural villages but also to avoid crowds of tourists. Could you recommend some nice place to stay in Nothern Vietnam? Or, at least, what is better: Sa Pa or Bac Ha? Thank you.
Has anyone actually stayed in P.Q.?I have having trouble finding a place to stay on Long Beach. I know that booking sites have a lot of negative reviews but it seems that - apart from the most expensive place the reviews all say that the rooms are dirtythe beach full of rubish the staff unhelpful, the ac does not work and the hot water is not reliable. Not good when trying to find a place to stay. Does anyone have any places they recommend?
With the recent news about flooding in Cambodia, what is the situation in Saigon and Mekong Delta?? Still one week left to travel to Vietnam but wanted to make sure about the situation. What about Hue and Hoi An area - does it seem it will rain a lot in the next 2 weeks / is it raining a lot currently??

There are many posts on this and other forums about fake bags, jewellery and tailored suits, however I cannot see much about Watches.
Does anybody know do any shops/areas/markets where I could look at getting really good fake copies of quality watches such as Tags, Breitlings, Omega's etc?
Also, what sort of prices could I be looking at?
Thanks in advance,

What is the best way to handle cash/money for tourist in Vietnam? Take the required amount from local ATM machines ?? Is there any charge per ATM transaction that you make?
Myself and three others are travelling to Vietnam in April. We are travelling for just over three weeks in the hope to see many different locations. After looking at numerous other posts and suggestions, I have come up with an 'itinery' that I believe best suits what we are after.
Now I know there are many other posts like this and some may get easily offended for me asking for some advice but I know there are many experienced and helpful posters on here who may be able to help with a few of my questions at the bottom.
Just as some background information the party will consist of 2 males and 2 females all aged 26. Whilst we are keen on seeing snippets of the 'old' Vietnam and the vast history it has, we are also keen to do the 'tourist' things and at times just chill out on a beach and enjoy the vibe.
Please have a look at my plan below and if you could help with ... more »
Going to Vietnam in October for two weeks. My husband and I are going with our daughter who will be 6 months old at the time. She has started eating solids, but is mostly on formula.
Our plan is to stay in Hanoi, Hue and Hoi An.
Can annonce tell me If we can buy baby food, formula and diapers there? Or should we bring them from home?
Thanks a lot!

I am after some advice about travelling within Vietnam during the TET holidays with kids. We have a 3 and a half year old and a 1 year old and we have a 5 week holiday planned. We are having 2 weeks in Malaysia to see family which leaves 3 weeks spare and at the moment Vietnam is the option.
I have travelled extensively through SE Asia and have been to Vietnam twice before but never during TET and never with kids. We are planning on flying to HCMC on 21st Jan and then having 3 weeks going north. I have read that Hoi An is great during TET (my favourite place in Vietnam) but will we be able to get there if we spend 4 days in HCMC and then get a train up with a stop in Mui Ne or somewhere like that?
Will it be possible to book a train for the 4 of us in HCMC on 22nd Jan or do you think I need to contact a travel agent beforehand?
Also, will it be cold in Hanoi in late Jan?

I will be in Hanoi soon and will stay for a week. I would like to see the sights in Hanoi and make a trip to ha long bay. I also want to put a lot of emphasis on partying with other backpackers. Are there party hostels in hanoi? are there places close to hanoi that are backpacker hotspots? Thanks in advance.
Hi, any recommendations on hotels by the Hanoi airport? We will arrival hanoi airport at late night on next sunday have an early flight to Nha Trang on next day. Thanks
Hi we're going to be in Hoi An and Danang mid January 2014. I guess you'd refer to us as flash packers - we were backpackers 20 years ago but are a bit older and wiser, still independent travellers on a budget, but want a few creature comforts now. We're looking for hotel or beach bungalow recommendations for 3-4 nights on My Khe or Danang beach - beach front if possible. Not a flash resort but not a flea pit either:) ideally somewhere to chill out before we head to Angkor Wat. Hammocks, nice food, staff that speak a bit of English with wifi but that won't break the bank. Not too busy or loud, quiet but with some beach bar options. Advice gratefully received.
Also I've read a couple of posts saying its cold in Hoi An and Danang in January, but have read elsewhere that its a good time to visit. Anyone been there at this time of year can advise? Thanks x
