My friends backed out from our trip to a few South-East Asian countries, so now I'm looking for travel buddies.
I am a 27 year old male living and working as a Marketing Analyst in Stockholm, Sweden. Have been in Sweden for 1.5 years, before that studied and worked in the US for 9 years, and before that in Russia for 17 years. Other than Europe and the US, I traveled in different parts of India for 1 month last year.
I have made an initial itinerary but am quite flexible and open to suggestions:
15th Dec - arriving to Hanoi in the morning
16th Dec - Halong Bay
17th - Ninh Binh
18th - Hanoi. Overnight train to Hue
19th - Hue
20th - Da Nang. bus to Buon Ma Thuot
21 - Buon Ma thuot
22 - Buon Ma thuot. bus to Saigon
25-26 Mekong Delta
26 or 27 - flying to Bangkok to meet with another friend.
Let me know if you are interested. more »
Is there any transport, shuttle bus from da nang AIRPORT to hue?
If yes, pls kindly let me know where to book etc..
Thank you so much for any useful information
In in Hue and looking to do a private DMZ tour. Possibly 2 days. I'm trying to contact the famous Mr Vu to see if he is free over the next few days but I can be a bit flexible on dates especially as I'll be passing back this way soon.
Anyone fancy sharing the car and cost with me?
I was going to do his 1 day hamburger hill tour then his 1 day DMZ tour
More info on Mr Vu at www.annamtour.com
Hopefully I will get to speak to him tonight
Hi, I’m planning to travel Vietnam from Oman. I did try to find information about requirement to be able to enter Vietnam such as visa requirement, but I am not sure whether I as an Omanis national can get visa to Vietnam conveniently or not. Some news I read said that Vietnam visa requirement for Omanis is stricter than for others. Some others said Omanis can get visa on arrival quite easily as Vietnam visa on arrival service for Omani citizens on visaforvietnam dot org. Can anyone know exact procedure to get a Vietnam visa? My trip is coming soon but I still wonder about this issue.
So, I heard that most of the markets in Ha Giang District take place on certain days of the lunar calendar. I tried to figure out the dates myself now, but only ended up more confused than before.
Does anybody have the exact market dates for late December 2013, early January 2014?
My boyfriend and I are flying from Luang Prabang, Laos, down to Singapore, and have an 11 hour layover from 9pm to 8am in Hanoi. I've been trying to figure out if the airport stays open 24 hours, as we plan to just stay there the night, but have been finding some places saying it closes after the last flight, and others saying it's open 24 hours.
Does anyone know if the airport is open 24 hours?
P.S. We flew into Hanoi Airport in October from Tokyo, so we're aware that it isn't the most desirable airport to spend a night in, but we also know that there aren't many hotels nearby and would rather not spend the money to get out to a hotel and back (though we do have multi-entry visas).
I have read a lot of information on visa on arrival for Egypt. But until now, I still get unsure the answer. I hope that I can get useful information from many experienced travelers.
I am Egypt citizen. I am planning travel to Vietnam next month. I already have the visa approval letter from evietnamvisa.com. I am wondering that apart from the letter what the other documents that I need to prepare. I am from Egypt thus I know it is more difficult to get visa than other citizen. I have contact the Embassy to get the visa but my visa request has been rejected. Therefore, I have applied via online service.
Please give me advice. Thanks for any help.
My bf and I are going to Vietnam in February and were just trying to book some domestic flights from vietnamairlines.com, and his card rejected the transaction because they say that neither Mastercard nor Visa will do business directly with any Vietnamese merchants! They said this is the case for ALL Mastercard and Visa cards issued in the US! We booked a room through Agoda.com and that was fine supposedly because the business is headquartered in the UK (or wherever).
Has anyone else come across this? I cannot believe that US travelers cannot use their credit cards anywhere in Vietnam!
My husband and I will be in HCMC on Saturday, 1 February 2014, and we want to take a day trip along the Mekong River (seems like the itineraries are pretty standard - My Tho, coconut candy, bee farms, etc.). However, that day falls right in the middle of Tet, and the first couple tour groups we've talked to are closed that weekend.
Any chance that someone knows of a good company that would run a tour that day? We understand there may be price markup as a result of the holiday. Thanks for any advice!
I have a 3 week trip in late January, current plans are very roughly:
Fly in to HCMC 2-3 days
Back to HCMC and if any spare time, maybe the delta.
Can anyone recommend quiet hotels in any of these places? We are a couple with 2 teenage sons
and are after 2 bedroom apartments preferably. I have a sleeping disorder and noisy hotels or noisy streets will
keep me awake. So hotels in quiet streets and away from nightclubs are greatly preferred.
Has anyone stayed at Saigon Apartments in District 3? Thoughts?
Budget is roughly up to $50 a night per room.
Thanks for any help
Hello, I will arrive in Hanoi on 6 January and will visit Dien Bien Phu and Sapa. Does anyone have any special insights regarding these two locations? I am not sure what mode of travel I will use to get to Dien Bien Phu as I have not made up my mind on that. However, I intend to take a mini-bus to Sapa. In Sapa I want to visit the "rock field" which contains petroglyphs. Has anyone visited this rock field?
Thanks - Alex
Does anyone have good recommendations for motorbike tour operators in & around Hoi An / Hue / DMZ?
There are quite a few companies online, but not sure about the quality of the guides / experience.
We're looking to do a day trip from Hoi An - Hue (where the tour operators handle our luggage) and a 2 night/3day trip from Hue - DMZ - north (or round trip).
Could anyone recommend a good company that they have had a good experience with or any other advice with this kind of a trip.

Turns out that I have too much time to spend in Hanoi.
I think 3 days should be enough for Hanoi itself, so I would like to take a short (3 day/2 nights) trip to some place in the north-east.
Does anybody have any suggestions? (Not Ha Long Bay, the Sapa area or Ninh Binh, as those are on my itinerary anyway)
I don't mind less frequented places, but it shouldn't be just some boring market town.
I had thought maybe Lang Son (how is the scenery there?), Cao Bang (probably too far) or Cai Rong / the Bai Tu Long bay.
In all the research I did on Hanoi it was always the same - it is dry in December !!
Now I see that rain is forecast for most of the second week of December.
So what is it likely to be? Rain the whole day or short thunder storms or what ?
I'm feeling a very downcast at the moment
