Does anyone know of an agent who can book air bagan flights before I arrive?
Hi! The Myanmar embassy website in Canada explains all the information regarding visa application, except the cost! It just says "send CDN.00 in money order"... does anyone know roughly what the cost is these days? Trying to get organized now, and of course it is the start of the weekend so I won't be able to call the embassy until Monday. Thanks for you help!
I posted my application to the London Embassy from Edinburgh on 25th November 2013, received 26th November 2013. I enclosed a completed form, two passport photos with white background, Special Delivery envelope (addressed to work, not home - hope this will not be an issue) and £14 cash (as instructed at http://www.myanmarembassylondon.com/visa_section.2.html#Tourist%20Visa). I'm yet to receive any confirmation that the visa has been posted yet via Royal Mail Special Delivery Track & Trace.
I do not leave until 1st February 2014, but wanted to check how long the application times have been for others at this time - I've read anything from less than a week to six weeks processing time. The Embassy do not appear to be particularly organised when phoning or emailing. I phoned the Embassy this afternoon on 020 7148 0740 and got asked "How did you pay?", "Cash", "Don't worry, w... more »
I researched all the options (compare sites etc) and I used
which at the time had the best $/£ rate.
Order on line, they email confimation with transfer instructions then you transfer the funds by internet banking and the currency is delivered by Royal Mail Registered Post (trackable) in 48 hours. No Commission.no charges or postage costs.
Rate at the time was 1.62 $ to the £ (best in 5 years) and when delivered the notes were the NEW STYLE $100 with a few old style, but brand new $50 and $1's to make up the balance
hope this helps
Is it possible to have visa on arrival to Myanmar? If so , where, how much do it cost? is it possible to have visa on arrival at land border between Thailand and Myanmar?
My doctor tells me today before an upcoming visit to Myanmar in Jan 2014 for 3 weeks that the country has malaria over almost all of it and the risk is fairly high.
He therefore recomended anti-malaria tables. In so many of the threads I've read on this forum on all things Myanmar, I havent come across any comments on this.
Does anyone have any usefull information on this ?
Have other travelers taken these tablets ?
Any views or comments ?
Many thanks for anything offered.
My wife and I land in Bangkok on a Wednesday morning and fly out to Mandalay, Myanmar on Friday afternoon. We were hoping to obtain visas for Myanmar in a 48-hour window which I was led to believe by friends and things I read online to be sufficient. I am now being told that it takes at least 3 business days to get the visa from the Mandalay consulate in Bangkok. We are both U.S. citizens.
Does anybody have experience with this that can answer any of the following:
1) How long does it normally take to get a tourist visa for Myanmar in Bangkok?
2) Are there expediters, travel agencies, etc that can speed up the process?
3) What are the hours of the Myanmar consulate in Bangkok?
4) Is it possible to get a tourist visa on arrival at the airport in Mandalay?
Any insights would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I was on the ride from Hpa An to Mae Sot a week or so ago and while climbing the mountain, traffic came to a standstill due to road maintenance (don't worry, it hasn't been paved yet). So everyone got out of their cars and while waiting, a guy came up to me and started chatting. The conversation came around that he was Myanmaran and in a music band from Yangon. He told me they'd been together for 10 years and sang everything except Hip Hop and everything they did was their own original writing. When I asked jokingly if they were famous, he replied yes. He said the name of his band is Penny Trader - not a translation from the name, that's the name. There's nothing to be found on them on the net, but then I realized they haven't really had the internet to advertise. So just wondering if anyone's heard of this band, and if so, where I could find some info on them or samples of the... more »
Does anyone know if the date(s) for Burma's general elections in 2015 have been established?
I think about visiting Burma/Myanmar in April - what about the weather then, and is the peak season over, so it will be easier to find accomodation?
I will stay in Bangladesh before Burma/Myanmar, but I haven't found any information about entering the country from Bangladesh, so I don't think it is possible. And I guess it is easier to get visa in Kuala Lumpur than in Dhaka, so I plan to go from KL - does anyone here know?
I visited Burma/Myanmar two years ago and at that time it was impossible to pay or change money other than with spotless and pristine new dollar bills. I see that some still mention this, but also that there are ATM:s now. What is the best, cash or credit card?
Two years ago we used Santa Maria Tours in Yangoon to book hotels and flights. We paid part of the bill to a private bank account in Bangkok beforehand, and the rest at arrival, whe... more »
Just a thought for my upcoming trip, that might be useful for others:
Seems the right size for those pristine $100 bills!
after we’ve just finished our backpack trip to Myanmar in November 2013 we would like to share some information about the country as to make it easier for others to decide whether to go or not and where to go.
We are a couple in the beginning of our thirties and have travelled quite a lot in the region. We spent three weeks in the country with the following itinerary.
01st day: Flight from Bangkok to Mandalay with AirAsia. Arrival in our Mandalay hotel in the afternoon. Drive to and from Mandalay hill with scooter taxi (unfortunately only one person besides the driver is allowed in the whole country). Sunset on Mandalay hill.
02nd day: Sightseeing on rented bikes to the new palace, Shwenandaw Kyaung temple, Kuthodaw Paya temple. After lunch we watched some gold hammering, weaving and face paste making in the city’s south. Mandalay Marionettes show in the evening (very ni... more »
Off to Burma in two weeks for a month and just wanted to double check if there is any up to date info on whether you can use Visa card anywhere...either in ATM'S or Hotels etc. We have heard not but it would be good to know from you knowledgeable lot!
Also what is the situation with internet access and wifi?
Okay, a few weeks out from my trip it's time to get those unmarked, pristine dollar bills!
I'm going for two weeks and my budget is £500 = $800.
How would you change / divide that budget?
For example, my current thinking is to get $700 in 7 $100 bills, and then $100 in smaller bills.
Then at Yangon airport I'll change 6 of the 7 hundreds into kyat straight away - and change the final one later on the trip.
Would welcome opinions on this / other ways of doing it from people who have taken a similar trip / budget!
