Asia - South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula

I will be visiting Bali with my wife and 9 month old son in July. We plan to stay in Kuta for a couple of days, then to Ubud, then to Medewi, then to somewhere along the Bukit peninsula (maybe Balangan or Bingin). While I plan to book ahead for the first couple of nights in Kuta, is it necessary to book ahead for the other places? I have read that guesthouses/hotels/etc will fill up in July, is that a reality? (I have read that about other places I have visited only to find it was not the case). While we don't plan to stay in the high end hotels, traveling with a 9 month old we don't want to stay in the cheapest of budget places either, probably more like a mid range. Also, any recommendations for a place to stay at any of the locations above? Much thanks.
I am looking for a relatively cheap place to stay for a couple nights on the island of Gili Trawangan. I have been unsuccessful so far in finding anything that is of any good value.
If you could suggest some places to stay and costs it would be of GREAT help.
Thanks in advance!
This crazy idea just pop up in my mind: I wanna go for a discovery scuba dive in Tioman this coming first or third week of Jul. Due to sudden pop up idea, not really can find anybody around me to go with me for this 3 days 2 nights trip.
Now, I'm looking for somebody who are alone and would like to go for this DISCOVERY SCUBA DIVE, to share the lodging cost and also be the partner during the dive.
The dive is the main objective of the trip, we may still doing some other land activities, i.e. cycling around the island, trekking etc.
anybody who have the same idea, may PM me or drop me a line so to discuss further.
As the subjects says, would you choose one of the three Gili Islands or the main island of Lombok itself?
We're a married couple, late 30s, have both been to Bali a handful of times, but this will be our first time in Lombok. We have ten days in the the beginning of August.
LIke many others we are looking for a good swimming beach and, preferably, staying at a place on or close to the water. Still undecided on whether we want as quiet as possible, or a bit of options with restaurants and a place to have a drink in the evening. White sand and water first; nightlife definitely second.
As far as places to stay, US100 is about the maximum, but that is flexible. Of course, cheap is fine too if it's worth staying at.
Would you go to a place like Kuta in the south or would you choose one of the three Gili Islands?
Which place has the best swimming beach? (one that isn't too nois... more »

I am travelling to Malaysia - I leave in less than a week and will be there for two weeks. I am going to be staying in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuching, and Melaka. I am seeking some advice from any seasoned South East Asia travellers. Do you recommend booking accommodation beforehand? I am travelling with my husband, and since we will only be in each city for a few days, we don't want to have to spend a lot of time searching around for accommodation when we get there. But, do you guys think it is better to check out the guesthouses/hotels before you book? And do you think a better deal can be gotten by just walking in to the accommodation, or by booking online? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!
I'm planning on visiting Timor Leste between October and November this year. I want to spend something around 20 or 22 days there. It will be my first time in the country. My idea is to buy the air tickets ( will fly from Singapore), do some basic planning and get there. I will travel in a budget - meaning backpacking style, basic accommodations like hostels with dorms and shared bathroom, local street food, etc, aka no frills, but basic comfort. I don't drive, so I will rely on public transportation to travel around the country. I was in Myanmar last year, traveling there for 21 days, using only public transportation (buses, of all kind). Public transportation there is far away from being good (long travels, bad roads, etc), but is OK: it is cheap and you can get where you want (well, at least everywhere where tourists are allowed) . But I don't know about transportation ... more »
My husband and i booked tiger airway tickets and we have a confirmation number, we have an itinerary when plugging it in to their website and it acknowledges our flight details, peoblem is that it says it is NOT to be used for check in and itinerary is in PDF form. I have requested a resend three times and no email. Also, there is no toll free number or email as i am calling fom the US!!! Now what??.
Looking to rent this venue for a wedding. Anyone hear of anything about it?
Hello! I have a 20hr stop over in KL on my way to Europe.
I'd love to get out an see the city and was wondering if anyone had any tips given I have so little time.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Being 71 and 68, my husband and I are not the usual visitors to Pulau Weh but we are avid snorkelers and had read of the great reefs and snorkeling there so decided to add it to our month long visit to Indonesia. A couple of posters on here helped with questions I had and so I thought I would relate what we experienced there. As we have aged we have found that our needs have changed so we settled on Rasa Seni Beach Resort for our accommodation. We knew they were in a more isolated area but their website listed shuttle service to Sabang, snorkel tour services, travel arrangements, a restaurant with Western/Indonesia menu, nice rooms with A/C, etc. My correspondence by e-mail was with a person with excellent English who was able to book a number of domestic flights (no extra fee- payment through PayPal-extra money to go towards balance of bill). We booked a 4 night pagkage with hal... more »
I heard from friends of mine that El Nido is great- "paradise" is the word they used.
But here in the LP guides they always write how packed with people it is and write about the bad condition of the riffs.
Can someone that has been there lately help me please? Is it really that bad? can I find some peace and quiet there besides the obvious attractions, or should I just find somewhere else..
My travelling dates are mid August- mid September. I'm planning on being there (El Nido) for 10 days.
Hi myself and the Mrs are flying to OZ In October.Planning a 2 night stop over In Singapore. How much cash would we need.Eating out and a few beers also do a few touristy trips.
We're looking to go to Bako for a daytrip in mid-December. Or is that simply a bad idea?
Anyone know what the boat costs? If we got ourselves to the jetty right at dawn (and the tide is right) will we get a boat straight away? and how much for the boat? (just two of us)
I will be arriving in Bali end of july around 10.30 pm after an endless journey from Europe.
I have accomodatin booked in Ubud for 2 days after, so I am currently trying to figure where to spend my first 2 days in the island.
Do you have any suggestions for me? I am not interested in party (Kuta), I'd like to relax but also start seeing the nature and the culture of Bali. Any suggesion for a nice place - not too far from the airport - where I can acclimate and start exploring?
I am 35 female and travelling alone for the first time, I love to backpack and meet other travellers but definitely not into party scene!
