Is there someone who could give me a few tips on what would be worth and reasonable (timewise) to see and do around Jakarta in about two days and two nights. Im flying to Australia from Europe and have to stay in Jakarta for about two days because of flight connections. Ps.: If i could manage to sneak in a surf during this quick break i would be a happy man :)
Some advice on good cheap accomodation not too far from the airport would be great as well. Im open for any suggestions.
My girlfirend and I will be travelling to the Perhentian Islands starting the week of the 20th August for a few days. I have tried to book accommodation but it all looks pretty full up. Very few places seem to have contact details t o be able to book.
Can anyone please provide me with email addresses of hotels/hostels on the islands or alternatively reassure me that for most of the hostals you can just walk in upon arrival and book a room rather than book in advance?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm going to Bali for the third year in a row (yeah, I love Bali) and will be on my own from August 2nd to 11th. Starting with Padang Bai (to dive with the mantas), then going to Ubud for a few nights and ending with Seminyak where a friend will join me. Is anyone going to Bali at that time? Anyone wants to join for diving / visiting / having drinks?
When my friends arrives, we'll spend 4 days in Seminyak and 10 days on Gili Trawangan and anyone who wants to spend time with us is most welcome.
Feel free to contact me.
Hi has anyone recently stayed around Kuta Beach as we are looking at booking the Seaview Boutique Hotel, and have read some reports that there is a big construction site next door with 24 hour work going on.
I am worried about noise during the night, I called the hotel they said its not a problem, but I wanted to ask anyone here who has been recently and can advise us.
Sorry we are a bit fussy about many things, but thats what forums are for to find out honest advice.
We land in Kuala Lumpur on 3rd August and are planning about a 2 week drive around penisular malaysia. At the minute we have no idea if its feasible to :
drive KL up the west cost ( Ipod, Cameron Highlands, Penang, Georgetown)
Accross to the Perhentian Islands
Down back towards KL or another airport to fly over to indonesia.
Or if we should cut our trip short around kota bahru near perhentian and fly over to indonesia from there.
Has anybody any experience or highlights of driving around Malaysia?
A friend and I are heading to the Perhentian Islands in the next day or two and we have about 2 weeks in Malaysia with our final destination being Singapore. Our 2 main things we would like to do are to visit KL and take the jungle rain along the way. I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to where we could go along the way and how we could do the trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi we are planning a trip to Bali, and have just read many reports that Mosquito's are a big problem around Bali Kuta area.
Is this true ? I hate to go there to be constantly bitten by Mozzies.
Should we be concerned ? Such a small thing can ruin a holiday.
"the Philippines is struggling with overfishing, destructive fishing practices, oil spills and hazardous waste from agriculture and industry. Sedimentation from the mining industry is also becoming a major concern"
Looks like some more Marine Protected Areas would be a good idea..
I'm getting to gilimanuk on august 4th, and need to get with some friends to Pemuteran. is there any public service (buses...) or taxi that we can take to get there? it's just 27 km and hiring a bus from kuta is foolish...
if you have the local buses timetable aor taxi xompany link it's great.
I've just a short question, because we move from Manila to boracay next Friday:
Is there an office from Southwest Tours near Kalibo Airport to get a transfer to boracay or do you advise to book online in advance? 275 Php seam to be a reasonable offer.
Are there better options? I suppose we'll be "attacked" by dozens of touts offering you transport deals after leaving the airport (we experienced Indonesia) and because it's our first time there I'll get some Impressions of the situation there before.
Thanks in advance
I visited Malaysia Borneo last year very briefly (was only there 4 days) but fell in love with it! My partner and I were thinking of travelling to Kalimantan in September/October this year but we only have 3 weeks and the more I look into it I am becoming convinced this just isn’t really enough time?? I had hoped to go to Kalimantan because from what I've read the jungles seem deeper and denser and it is all round less touristy (the one complaint I had about Malaysia Borneo was how many tourist groups you seemed to run into). I had my heart set on doing some jungle treks, hopefully seeing as much wildlife as possible, spend a few days on a klotok and spending a few days snorkelling and diving on the islands and going to Jellyfish Lake.
Is three weeks enough time to fit all this in without feeling really rushed? Also neither of us speaks Indonesian, which seems to also pose a probl... more »
Im planning on traveling to Indo in August, sept, Oct and will be starting in Bali and then visiting many other islands and area's of the entire country.
Does anyone have any up to date info on Malaria? Which area's would I have to take Malaria pills and which brand is best for the Indonesian region.
Thanks in advance
We are 2 friends going to Toraja next September. We will arrive at Makassar Airport at 8.40 in the morning and we are considering 2 options to go to Rantepao (Toraja):
1. Going with Litha Bus, departing at 10.00 am and stopping in Daya terminal at 10.20. It cost 100.000 IDR. Takes 8-9 hours. (plus taxi Airport to Daya Terminal)
2. Going with a rented car with driver . I have a budget of 1.000.000 (85 euros).
Threre is big difference (700.000-750.000) between the 2 options. But I wonder if going by car is worth because of the comodities and the opportunity of stopping during the way and enjoying more the trip. And not getting so late to Toraja.
Some opinion about normal rate for this 2 days ... more »
