moving house and plane tickets

hi everyone,

while in the middle of a house move from the place where i own to a relatives due to a split with my partner (UK citizen living in the UK), i've had to buy a plane ticket to the Philippines. i'm still "mid move" so to speak, and while most of the stuff is now canx at the old address like bills and council tax (and am effectively not registered with the council as living there anymore), certain things like bank statements and the odd bill are taking longer (and i still pay mortgage / part own the old property).

because i have no direct debits or utility bills at the relatives address, i bought my plane ticket through the travel site i usually use with my old house address info on it (not a problem as anything sent there would still be seen by me) and also used it for the visa application as all my most recent bank statements required as proof of income also have tha... more »

Best place to book Mt. Kinabalu

What is the best way to book a Mt. Kinabalu trek in advance, specifically at Laban Rata? Their website says that accommodation is like 1600 MYR there, but I have heard that some people have gotten it down to like 600-900 MYR through other means or if they went on a tour.

Thanks!

Malaysia itinerary help please

We are heading over to SE asia later on this year ( beginning of September) and starting off our travels with 10 days in Malaysia.

I am looking for some help with out itinerary please.

Our itinerary is looking like this so far:

Day 1 Arrive in Kuching ( midday)
Day 2 Kuching
Day 3 Kuching
Day 4 Flight Kuching - Penang
Day 5 Penang
Day 6 Penang
Day 7 ?
Day 8 ?
Day 9 ? - KL
Day 10 Kuala Lumpur
Day 11 Flight from KL - Bangkok

My partner wants to the Orangutans which is why we are going to Kuching. How long would you remommend spending in Kucking? Would 2 full days be ok?

Are 2 full days in Penang enough or too much/little?

Any suggestions on where to go / what to do on day 7 and 8? Would it be worth travelling to Langkawi or Cameron highlands?

I have no idea where to spend the other 2 days, so any advice/ideas/suggestions will be very welcome, as well as ... more »

Getting around Flores

hi everyone,
we are planning a 3 weeks in Indonesia including a 5 days around Flores.
I was thinking of landing in Maumere and going directly to Moni, then Ende, Bajawa, Ruteng and Labuanbajo.
I am having difficulties in understanding how to get around the island.

I have read that the best way is probably a rental car with driver, but, is it easy to find a rental car in each village taking us around and to the next one?
Or shall we find one in Maumere and ask them all the way down to Labuanbajo?
And what is the cost?

Or maybe buses can be used on certain parts?

Thanks! :-)

Travel by car or public transportation around Indonesia?

Hey everyone,
My friend and I are planning a trip to Indonesia during July-August, and I want to know a few things by people who have visited the area.

Can you travel easily by public transport?
Will it be a wise idea to rent a car?

The isolated places - beautiful - wild islands (such as Komodo, for example) can be accessed without tours?
We really don;t like tours.. and I am hoping Indonesia is not one of these places where you NEED one to get around the perfect spots.

Thanx!

Recommended hotel to stay in Siquijor?

Hi all, currently in Alona beach and heading to Dumaguete for a few days before moving on to Siquijor for around 10 days. I'm not after anything fancy, something around the 800-1000peso mark, a fan room is fine.

I just need a good place to stay for maybe just the first night so me and my girlfriend can get settled, if any do pick up at the port with a reservation then that would be a bonus. Heard a few names like Coco Ray, JJs Backpackers and others, just wondering what people on here would recommend.

Thanks
Dan

one-way flight to Europe

Hello!
I was planing to take a one-way Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Europe in the beginning of June but just realized they stopped flying on London/Paris routes. Are there any alternatives for cheap one-way flights to Europe (London, Germany, Italy) from SEA (KL, Singapore, Bangkok ...)? Any suggestions?
Thanks...

Hey, I work at your hotel!

A few days ago I was in Manila and went for a walk to Robinson's mall. 3 different guys said this to me. And no they didn't work at my hotel, their intentions were robbery or some sort of scam. One fellow even followed me into the mall all the way to Sbarro where he asked me to buy him some spaghetti lol. Be careful in Manila, no one on the street works at your hotel, DO NOT go anywhere with strangers. These people were all very friendly and polite but if they lead you into an area where no one is around.....? Same with Angeles, this is a popular con to gain your trust. Don't go with them to poker games, shooting ranges, cock fights, back alley girly bars, etc.

Bus travel from KL to Melaka

Hi Guys.........
I have a couple of questions.......
Do the buses from KL to Melaka leave from Pudu Sentral bus station in KL or ONLY from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan?
Can I buy the tickets from Pudu Sentral even if buses leave from the other terminal?
Can I catch a bus from Melaka Sentral to Gemas?.......to travel on the "Jungle Train" to Tumpat
Have been trawling thru the Lonely Planet (and other books) Guide and haven't been able to find the answers.

Thanks for your help.
Chris

What would you do in three days near Kota Kinabalu or Brunei?

Hi,

I'm going to have 3 days to spend near Kota Kinabalu and/or Brunei (it can be either spot) and I want to fill those three days with either cultural aspects or amazing wildlife trekking.

The problem is our itinerary has been hemmed in by our fixed dates climbing Mount Kinabalu, so any suggestions for what to do for the three 'straggler' days before the climb would be welcome. Anything around Kota Kinabalu or Brunei (I have a bit of room to choose which area I'll have those 'spare' days'.)

Especially looking for the advice of Lazlo, RedApe and other longtime contributors whose opinions I know to be wise!

Many, many thanks,
Michelle
