Im soon flying into Bali and will probably go island hopping to Lombok etc
I wanted to know what is the best / most scenic route to get to West Papua from the islands of Bali or Lombok / Flores region. It would be nice to go via the Banda islands.
Can anyone suggest a safe airline (cheapest is not necessarily best in developing countries).
thanks so much for your advice!
I've been reading through the Indonesia forum and everybody seems to be very helpful here. Therefore, I was wondering if you'd be willing to offer up a few suggestions.
Right now I'm trying to get a general idea of the region(s) we'd like to visit in Indonesia. My girlfriend and I plan on traveling to Indonesia for about 4 weeks in February. Seeing as Indonesia is such a massive place, it has been made abundantly clear to keep myself limited to one or two regions max with the amount of time we have.
Considering February is actually the dry season in Maluku, and we are fans of awesome beaches and readily accessible snorkeling/diving, Maluku is certainly one of the regions we want to visit. It looks like the Bandas and Kei are on the list. However, is 4 weeks a little long for this area? I know from previous posts it is possible to spend 2 months in Maluku,... more »
I found this in the Jakarta Post - will it happen?
As a frequent traveller in Sumatra I look forward to -
the government, together with the private sector, was set to start working next year on the mega Trans-Sumatra Railway project, a 2,168-kilometer railway connecting Banda Aceh with Lampung.
Other areas were covered too which makes it an interesting read.

Was in Singapore last week for biz travel , when to the chinatown visitor center to gather somw information of the area and had my lunch there . Walk past this interesting store "Lim Kee Cheong Fun " at chinatown complex number is #02-093 , the food was good . I would recommend to try it .
I am going in Indonesia for 3 weeks trip in august (Java-Bali-Lombok), will spend 1 or 2 days to Mt Bromo.
1/ I won't be hiking during the rest of the trip : do you think I absolutely need to burden myself with hiking shoes, or regular shoes could be enough ?
2/ accomodation : I will arrive around the 4-5th august (week end), is it necessary to book in avance an hostel in Cemoro Lawang ? do you have any suggestion for an hostel ?
3/ do you advice rather a 1 or 2 day trip in Bromo National Park ?
Thank you for your help !
We'll be flying into Jakarta via Hong Kong in December and will be catching a flight to Yogyakarta the same afternoon. I'm wondering how much time we should allow between our arrival in Jakarta (assuming our flight is on time!) and our departure for Yogya. Is it smooth sailing through immigration or is it usually a lengthy process? (We're Canadians.)
We are scheduled to arrive in Jakarta at 13:15. Would it be safe scheduling to book a flight out at 15:20?
Thanks in advance!
We're going to Bali / Lombok end of August and my girlfriend is interested in taking jewelry making classes.
Can anyone recommend a good course?
Not necesarily in Ubud by the way. We're open to other places.
Will be traveling to the Flores Islands in early November. Would like
to hear of any problems with travel etc.
I'm planning to travel in the month of Oct. this year. I'll be traveling solo. My question is how hard will it be to make travel arrangements, transportation & accommodations in Indonesia as I travel??.Last year I travelled thru Malayisan Borneo and reserved all my hotel and air tickets via Internet or travel agents as I traveled and I'm hoping to the same in Indo
My basic itinerary will be to travel across Java, Sulawesi (Tana Toraja), and finish up in the Gilli Islands. So I'll be looking to buy train tickets/bus tickets in Java and flights from Surabaya-Makassar and Makassar-Denpasar.
I'll be looking at staying at mid range hotels in the big cities and guest houses in the smaller places Tana Toraja, Yogyagarta.
Doing a bit of research here on TT this whole Yogyagarta- Mt Bromo-Surabaya seems to be complicated because of all the scams and shady tour operators. I... more »
My Husband and I land in Bali in September but really want to get over to Tanjung Puting National Park in Kilimantan to see the orangutans. Can anyone recommend a company in Bali that we can book this through who can organise the trip including flights.
Anybody know of a good place to stay while in Baler? I will be there in mid March. About how much will it cost? Thanks
I'm trying to arrange my first trip to Indonesia later in the year - probably 3 weeks between late-Oct and mid-Nov. My budget is midrange (around EUR60/day)
I am looking for dreamy beaches with easy access to great snorkelling. I would also like to see some wildlife and possibly do some trekking.
In the past, I've snorkelled in Thailand (Koh Tao, Ko Phi Phi), Madagascar, India, Cuba and Belize and while I've enjoyed all those trips immensely, they've left me ever so slightly underwhelmed (coral mostly dead and colourless).
So far, I'm leaning towards northern Sulawesi but every new post I read on the subject confuses me more (e.g. such-and-such a place is great and offers fabulous snorkelling; no, corals there are bleached and ruined...).
Indonesia is just so huge. Could someone please help me to narrow down my search?
Me & my wife land at the Denpasar Airport on 10th Aug at 2pm. How do we get to Gili T the same day?
What is the closest boarding port for the ferry/ speed boat?
What time is the last boat?
Me & my wife will be transitting in & out of KL next month.
Land at LCCT at 8PM & Fly out of KLIA next day at 6.30pm.
Our broad plan :
Take Taxi from LCCT to KLCC, check in around 10PM (hotel suggestions? Close to KLCC : $50-$75 for the night)
Check out some Pubs/ Night spots, close to hotel. Suggestions? Till what time will they be open?
Next morning go to Petronas Tower/ Suria Mall.
Best way to travel from KLCC to KLIA (Time taken? Cost? If our flight is at 6.30PM, what time should we leave from KLCC?
Thanks in advance for the help.
